Even if I could take advantage of this deal, I'd lose my cablecard I'm grandfathered into. If some agent there messes with my account and I lose the flag for that, I can never get it back apparently. I can't even switch to an internet package with unlimited data, I'm stuck on one with a 1.2TB cap still. I hope when the political winds change we get someone in the FCC again that will require them to support cablecards again.
In the meantime, I'm thinking about getting a secondary connection from a local fiber competitor just to avoid the cap since I do large backups and use streaming on my tv a lot more than I used to.

Verizon FiOS is offering $30/month, price lock for 3years with speeds at 300mbps/300mbps. I have the Xfinity $40/month already and will likely switch. I like that Xfinity gives out weekly rewards though. Not sure if Verizon does the same but you're also saving $120 a year by switching to Fios.

Take it if you already are with Xfinity. Call customer service first and get them to offer the deal before trying alternate person as you have to cancel and switch... it's a price lock for 5 years and you don't have to deal with them for that period. Be nice and you may get switched. You now get their cable modem + router free without the additional rent. Seems like new competitors are coming and 5 years may bring in better tech long term.

A few things to consider:

I had my own cable modem and router which paid off over the years and was rated 650Mbps. When I installed their free hw, noticed that Xfinity free wifi and mobile radios could not be switched off. Went back to my modem and could not connect. long story short, they obsoleted that model and would not let it back on even though it was working fine for 8+ years. had to go back to their hw but used my router in the hope of disabling their free wifi (did not want some crazy dude using my connection for an all-nighter). Those free wifi/mobile radios are hard wired to stay on even in bridge mode where the home wifi is disabled. Had to spend a lot of time with support before they agreed to disable it after 24 hours. it took one week!
You should be fine if this free neighborhood wifi does not bother you, or if you don't DIY.

I just talked to CS, but they can't help the existing customer. I am not sure if it is even really possible for the existing customer to get this promotion. Or, any hack like applying a new service with one of house members to get this promotion and cancel the existing service?

I heard that you need to talk to a retention department people, tell them about the offer and that they should apply it to your account, to avoid loosing you as a customer.

Xfinity is so dumb. Just as a data point, I was at $75/month for two years (1100 mbps), then jumped suddenly to $140 a month. I called retention. Their best counter was $95 for 1000 mps or $65 for 500 mbps (nothing in between). I asked if my roommate signed up from the same address, they could take advantage of the 5 year, $50 promotion, and she said yes. I guess I will have to do that.

Sorry to hear they refused to help. Previously people reported many times that they were able to switch to promo rates, instead of going cancel account/create new, way.

One thing to note is if you call retention make SURE the retention agent is someone in the USA, I literally ask for their location and name before I even start the conversation. The retention agents from overseas will not be able to switch you to these promos.

When I got the 1gig for $50 promo 6 months or so ago I just "moved" to the same address. The order system will tell you they'll cancel the original account but they don't so you end up with 2 accounts. You need to call or chat and cancel after the new account is working.

Kept my name, address and emails, had to change payment method due to them no longer taking credit cards as part of the autopay deal. Debit or ACH only. You can setup auto ACH then pay with a CC manually before the due date if you want.

Everything else went smooth.

No complaints wrt the mobile line. Only issue was, one month they charged 10 cents for something and I missed paying that amount and they charged me extra $5 for it. Ridiculous

I just scrapped Xfinity like 6 months ago. I was paying $90 for 500meg and was capped at 1.2T a month, total BS.
I'll wait it our for now with my current $50 for 1t on fiber with Kinetic. Maybe I'll switch back when their deal is expired.

I ended up cancelling my 5 year old connection as they kept increasing it's price every year. Now my wife has got the $50 1gbps for 5 years. Guess we'll switch after that if needed.

Signed up for the deal as a current customer using the moving as a new customer trick...everything went fine during the order process, but the email confirmation includes a $125 Deposit Paid Today charge that was never mentioned while ordering. It never prompted for any credit checks or showed anything that might be related to needing a deposit or bypassing one.

I had auto-pay set up on my service before ordering and it allowed me to pick it for the new service during checkout. I did leave the free mobile line attached to the order but have not done the secondary steps to take advantage of it.

Also order page said same day deliver (or next day if after 3PM) of modem but website confirmation page said deliver usually takes 3 days.

Got a call from an overseas rep asking a lot of questions about why I made the order. I think she ultimately wanted confirmation that I made the order. I asked her a few questions and she pretty much gave incorrect answers for everything, so I just tried to end the conversation quickly.

I was Diamond status (10+ years) but now both the new account and my old account got changed to Platinum showing an incorrect join date.

I got a new Xfinity deal (300Mbps for $40) about 6 months ago and it's okay except for the upload sucks compared to Fios. I would have gotten 1Gb at $50 but it was $70 back in February.My AT&T $300 / yr expired in June so I took Xfinity up on their free mobile line. It's actually better than AT&T in my areas as it uses Verizon towers. I will obviously switch back to some prepaid offer instead of paying $50/month for Xfinity when the free year is up.
