xfinity sucks
Even if I could take advantage of this deal, I'd lose my cablecard I'm grandfathered into. If some agent there messes with my account and I lose the flag for that, I can never get it back apparently. I can't even switch to an internet package with unlimited data, I'm stuck on one with a 1.2TB cap still. I hope when the political winds change we get someone in the FCC again that will require them to support cablecards again.
In the meantime, I'm thinking about getting a secondary connection from a local fiber competitor just to avoid the cap since I do large backups and use streaming on my tv a lot more than I used to.

Verizon FiOS is offering $30/month, price lock for 3years with speeds at 300mbps/300mbps. I have the Xfinity $40/month already and will likely switch. I like that Xfinity gives out weekly rewards though. Not sure if Verizon does the same but you're also saving $120 a year by switching to Fios.

Take it if you already are with Xfinity. Call customer service first and get them to offer the deal before trying alternate person as you have to cancel and switch... it's a price lock for 5 years and you don't have to deal with them for that period. Be nice and you may get switched. You now get their cable modem + router free without the additional rent. Seems like new competitors are coming and 5 years may bring in better tech long term.

A few things to consider:

I had my own cable modem and router which paid off over the years and was rated 650Mbps. When I installed their free hw, noticed that Xfinity free wifi and mobile radios could not be switched off. Went back to my modem and could not connect. long story short, they obsoleted that model and would not let it back on even though it was working fine for 8+ years. had to go back to their hw but used my router in the hope of disabling their free wifi (did not want some crazy dude using my connection for an all-nighter). Those free wifi/mobile radios are hard wired to stay on even in bridge mode where the home wifi is disabled. Had to spend a lot of time with support before they agreed to disable it after 24 hours. it took one week!
You should be fine if this free neighborhood wifi does not bother you, or if you don't DIY.

Call Spectrum and ask for a different plan. I had the 100$ plan for 500mb/s and they changed it to $75 a month with same up and down speeds. Took 7 minutes.

I pay $110 now for Spectrum 1GB down/upload, but they did raise it $10 last month for including Amazon Prime. It's been a few years since I called to ask about a promo, so I think it's getting to that time. All you have to do is mention the price, and you're thinking about going to any other service, and they will immediately give you something.

Att has had plenty of promos that are far better than this. There's no way I'd switch from att fiber to xfinity. You'll instantly regret it.

Actually the regular price for Xfinity gigabit service in the Florida area is like $105 a month! We had an introductory rate of $50 that only lasted a year which expired last month and that is what showed up on the new bill. I went into the store to threaten to cancel and they adjusted my rate to $65 so being able to lock-in 5 years for $50 is a pretty good deal IMHO. Unfortunately not many other options in my area other than Starlink which has gotten ridiculously expensive for the speeds.

I was on AT&T 1GBe for about a decade and a half, then on AT&T 300mbps for 2 years or so to cut costs. Went to XFinity 1GBe about a year ago with their 5 year no fee increases plan, plus 1 year free mobile, plus free Peacock, and I couldn't be happier. In all three scenarios I maxed out the bandwidth, and I'm very happy with XFinity.

I put their modem/router/wifi gizmo into bridge mode, which disabled their wifi, and I use Ubiquiti networking throughout the house. Took all of five minutes to google then set up; very easy.

Strongly recommended. Don't believe the bots on 'slow, shared internet' - I literally had locals on Nextdoor (by their own admission AT&T salesmen) telling me bandwidth would be lower. Maybe in some areas it is; in mine, I get 1000mbps all the time, all day long.

For those wondering about upload bandwidth and Zoom calls, just look at your actual bandwidth used during a Zoom call (in Windows Task Manager / Performance tab) - it's far, far less than what you might expect. I run Plex servers (massive video streaming for hours and hours to multiple clients around the internet) and it's flawless.
