At this price, you can get a cage, which is far better if you have the room for it.

This model was recently on sale several times for this price, anyone purchased and can comment on the experience??? From reading the reviews people complaining that there is virtually no pull up assistance closer to the top when the bands retract, also that the assistance glide itself is very jerky and uneven. If you are thinking of buying this specifically for the assistance feature you may be disappointed.

I got the "black-01" version 3 years ago and it's held up very well. Not everyday use for me, but probably close to a full years worth if added up. Everything still bolted together strong and none of the pads or anything slipping. Survived a full tear-a-part for a move and no issues going back together.

I would think most people would grow out of needing the assistance after a few months anyway

Yea, you can get a pack of decent pull-up assist resistance bands for under $20.

What exactly is a cage, and why do you think its better than this?

Something like this squat rack which will give you a lot more exercise options. You can loop a long elastic band and step on it to create some assistance if you can't do standalone pull ups. I'm sure there are use cases where this machine is the better option, but at this price and footprint, a cage will hold way more clothes.
