This MSI Codex Z2 is a ready to use 1080p gaming desktop that stands out for the RTX 5060 and sub 900 dollar pricing. The GPU alone is cited near 500 dollars, and the system is described as a strong value for current games, with room to add more RAM later. The main knocks are the 16GB memory, the Ryzen 5 8400F being a low end AM5 chip, and the 8GB VRAM limiting longevity in newer AAA and Unreal Engine 5 titles. The long Walmart return window adds some cushion, making it a practical starter tower if you want upgrade headroom without paying for a higher tier build.

Fair enough, I'm not saying this isn't a good find in the current market - and maybe I am projecting a bit since I upgrade rarely and expect my PC to last many years. This is probably the best sub $1k deal out there. It's just that there's no good value out there right now in the new PC market. The only meaningful jump would be a 5070 and the lowest I'm seeing for a new 5070 build is $1500.

And I'm not going cling to the 1060 comment, I get that it was a throw away statement. The only thing I will say is that a 1060 wont even load up Gears of War E-Day (current AAA game) and a 5060 would struggle to hold 60fps @ 1080p. New UE5 titles with nanite and mandatory RT are going to be very hard to run for lower end builds even on low settings.

It's just that it doesn't make sense upgrading anything in this build and a PS5 pro would perform better. The power supply is only 650w, the motherboard has weak power delivery/VRM and doesn't even support PBO, the GPU barely beats a 5 year old 3060Ti and only has 8gb of VRAM, The CPU is worst possible CPU on AM5 and trades blows with a 5 year old Ryzen 5600.

For anyone who is looking for a PC right now, I would recommend looking at the used PC market but I get that's not realistic for everyone.
Hey I need help on Gears E-Day!

I want to upgrade my desktop to play it and would like to know if I upgrade to the "RECOMMENDED" specs then how likely will it be able to handle the next Gears game after E-day? Don't want to spend too much.

Ryzen 5 1400
MSI 350M Bazooka Mobo
Rx 580
16gb ram
1080p 240hz Alienware monitor (planning to game in this or maybe in 2k?)

Thanks

What brand is the gpu ? I don't have much knowledge about it
I would guess MSI. I have a similar PC build (circa 2023) that came with all MSI components, SSD, GPU, etc. PC has been great so far, slowly upgrading it and excited that Intel plans to start releasing new LGA 1700 CPU's.

all issues after 1/31/27 (the last day to return to walmart) would most likely go thru MSI rma, unless you bought the ext warranty.
Cool, thanks. I don't have a lot of know how. But should be good for indie players and destiny 2 players. I think it might not have that great of a resale value as well, might go for this or mac mini as all the games i play nowdays are already on macOS.

Can I be the only one that says this deal sucks. The 8400F processor is slower than the 4 year old Ryzen 7 5800x which you can buy cheap. The motherboard is the lowest one MSI makes. 16GB ram is stingy. The graphics card is good but the rest is bare minimum in 2026. For 1000 bucks you're better off spending a little more and getting a machine that will age better.

Decent deal this is what PCs with 2060s/3060s/4060s traditionally cost and 16GB RAM thats a veritable gold mine these days.

MSI, Codex Z2 Gaming Desktop, AMD Ryzen 5 8400F, NVIDIA RTX 5060 8GB - Walmart.com

https://www.walmart.com/ip/MSI-Co...hbdg=L1800
Simple incredible deal. It's less than $100 more than my clearance markdown G519 gaming PC from December 2024 for $809.96: https://powerspec.com/product/682496 - the biggest difference being 16 vs 32GB RAM. The 5060 in this MSI is better than the 4060 in my G519.

I stuck my $373.96 brand new RTX 4070 Super 12GB in that PC and so far it has worked perfectly.

😂 wtf are you talking about? Gpu prices are still at an all time high. 5090s hit $9k-$11k
5090s skyrocketed because they announced they were being discontinued.

I'll never understand why people who are not good at making predictions continue to make bad predictions. Why even bother??
