Shouldn't you be thankful you have a man in your life? Remember how long it took for you to find a man to put up with you?

Today I made sandwiches for DH and his friend who were outside brewing, and for my 2 boys and finally for myself. I roasted a chicken for tomorrow's dinner and made a double batch of chicken enchiladas for dinner tonight. Somewhere in there I sifted through 4 boxes of stuff that belongs to my grandparents and trashed 2 bags full of crap. Honestly... the stuff my parents thought was worth keeping makes the mind reel. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

So yeah... tired and stuff and our friends haven't even been over yet to play before we celebrate the 4th. It's going to be a long day.

If that doesn't work, try booting into Safe Mode (tap F8 or F12 as the computer starts up & you should get some boot options, one of which will be Safe Mode, you could try Safe Mode with Networking first - if that works & lets you out to the internet that's one step you can skip).

Anyway somehow download RKill [technibble.com] and run that first - it should stop all the virus processes and let you work - then you can download or run MalwareBytes without all the popups. If you have a laptop or access to another computer pull RKill down on that; otherwise try Safe Mode w/Networking and see if it lets you out to the internet to download RKill and/or MalwareBytes.

As Paint mentioned MS Security Essentials is a great program and a full scan with that won't hurt either, then when you're all through use that for your AV.

Good luck. hug
Been there, done that, sadly didn't get a T-shirt. Not even booting in safe mode helps. Blowup

Did you run RKill or some variation (ComboFix is another favorite) to kill the virus processes? Those are what throw the popup windows & stop you getting to the internet.

Anyway, good luck, holler if I can advise at all. hug

I guess I'm not being clear. The virus starts from the monent I turn the dang thing on. I cannot run anything. Nothing. Cannot even open the homepage. If I jump directly onto the control panel it still comes up.

That's not a bad idea either if you can't boot from the MalwareBytes CD.

Can you copy a file from a USB stick? A lot of times these viruses will stop you running *any* executables so you need to run a registry hack to fix that - this virus is sounding more and more like the "Antivirus 2012" infection I've seen running around lately. Here's a link to take care of that one & there is a link to download the registry fix in these instructions: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/v...yware-2012

Anyway if that doesn't work or you can't even get a file to copy over - try what DC said, yank the drive, hook it up to a different machine & scan it that way. Sorry it's such a hassle. hug

The other option is a linux based boot disk...it boots the computer from the CD instead of windows from the hard drive...then you use the utility's on the cd to help clear out the infection.

or you yank the drive like I suggested above and use the host pc to do the scans....

oh...thought you were posting from your lappy..not a phone. Frown

then a linux cd would be your better bet.

Don't have that either. Annoyed this is not my computer and I did not set it up. Obviously the person he PAID to do so did not do a very good job and I am supposed to perform some sort of miracle now.

And before it's mentioend again the usb ports don't work right either.

Doh I forgot about that... sorry, Jen. If you thought you could get online I could offer my services via remote access... but if you can't get a browser open even in Safe Mode w/Networking then that's not really an option.

I'd stick with your initial plan to boot from a MWB CD and try to clean it that way. Or like DC said a Linux distro (I like Knoppix for this, it's the simplest interface I've found and lets you right into your files & folders)... otherwise you might be down to taking it to someone local for a cleaning... Sadwalk Wish I could help more from here. Down

Well thanks for the thought. Went to his folks today and attempted to burn a CD. Wouldn't you know it; their computer was set up by the same genius and it won't recognize a disc in the drive Head Bang So tomorrow, when the library reopens from the holiday, I'm going to try to burn a CD using a computer NOT set-up by this nimrod. Someone is also mailing me a CD since I've had such good luck with this whole deal so far.

I'd suggest giving this a shot:

http://www.avg.com/ww-en/avg-rescue-cd

I'm not sure that MWB actually has a bootable CD version... That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, however.
