I came within 20 min of being killed by a falling tree branch today. OMG Posted the story EW, but the short version:

1. baby pool under the tree with 2 small kids in it
2. 12-15 adults in lawn chairs under the tree watching the baby pool and the big kids playing and running around.
3. my kids get hungry (we arrived after late lunch/early dinner) so we go inside, people trickle in after us.
4. HUGE tree branch falls where we were all sitting, narrowly missing a vehicle.

No doubt someone would have been seriously injured or killed. This was a massive branch and it just fell out of nowhere. It didn't appear dead or diseased, but when it broke off there was some signs of disease.

Tonight I'm thankful for miracles, large and small.

All of the majestic Blue Oak trees in our hood are dying...they are at the ends of their lives...not much to do but Duck and Cover! I think we'll have to have the arborrist (sp) out next year to inspect our tree to see if we can have it cut down.
All of the trees in our hood are tagged by the city and they have a 10 : 1 replacement if you cut one down. Dead trees are exempt as they are an obvious hazard.

The bug guy came today. I was so glad because the spiders have been coming back with a vengeance. He sprays the whole yard/porch/basement and I point out which spots seem to be most spidery. So he sprays and I leave to go to my parents house after. I come home tonight around 9:30 and I see a HUGE spider under the porch (yet above the basement door we had to go in). I'm talking "exhibit at the zoo" huge. The web was bigger than my torso. Then I go to get something from my trunk and I see another hugeass web and spider (but not quite as big) on the basketball hoop. That one spider though, the really big one....ewwww. I think the spray is supposed to take a day or two to work. I tried to take a picture of it but it was too dark.
