Ooma Telo Air 2 is a simple Wi Fi home phone replacement that works well for keeping a traditional landline number alive. The service is described as reliable, clear, and easy to use with existing cordless handset systems, and it can also send voicemail alerts to a cell phone or app. Long term ownership stories point to years of steady use and meaningful savings versus a cable or carrier landline. The main tradeoffs are ongoing taxes and fees, no battery backup, no text messaging, and possible port in charges. A practical fit if you want a low maintenance home phone line.
Common Questions (5)
It has a strong long-term track record in these comments, with reports of units working for 10, 15, 17, and even 18 years. Users also describe the service as stable, with rare outages and clear call quality.
The service charge is $0, but taxes and fees typically run about $6-$9 per month depending on ZIP code. Some users also report paying around $7.xx for basic service or about $8-$9 total with taxes and fees.
Yes. It can replace a traditional landline and work with an existing cordless handset base, including multi-handset systems like Panasonic or AT&T setups. It is best suited for people who want a simple home-phone replacement rather than just relying on a cell phone or Google Voice.
Yes. If the line does not ring, calls can still go to Ooma voicemail, and messages can be checked on the device or through the Ooma phone app. The mobile app can also be used for service access.
It relies on Wi‑Fi and has no battery to charge. It does not support SMS, so it is mainly for voice calling and voicemail rather than texting.

since then and they still both work. I have an old one, which uses ethernet connection. So, 30 years of service for $400.
Anyway, for that reason we are looking to keep the number that's been in the family for over 30 years and looking for best and most inexpensive option for the occasional incoming call.
Curious how Google Voice could be used in this scenario? We have a Panasonic multi-unit "landline" phone system that is currently connected to the Spectrum VoIP gateway/modem. This Panasonic unit also has a feature to connect via bluetooth to a cell phone.
Would porting this "landline number" over to a Google Voice account and then installing Google Voice on an old unlocked phone and connecting the cell phone to our Panasonic phone system via bluetooth achieve what we are trying to do? Or are there any caveats we need to consider for using Google Voice for this landline and the Panasonic system? Edit: On bit further research, looks like to port the landline number to Google Voice, we might have to temporarily port over from Spectrum to an intermediary cell phone/MVNO before finally porting over from the cell phone to Google Voice? Still trying to sort the steps out.
Thanks in advance for any input,
