Cheaper. Arguably not better.

A18 Neo is about 40% faster single-core and 90% of the multi-core performance. You typically feel the single-core performance more, so the Neo is going to feel snappier for most tasks.
The unified memory is significantly faster on the Neo, as well.

The Neo will also have a warranty, whereas you're SOL if this dies.

Is the Neo worth 2x the price? Probably not. But, let's not paint the MacBook Air as the better device overall. It's not. It's worse in multiple categories and only slightly better in others.

I daily drive an M1 with only 8gb of ram. SSD offloading makes 8gb sufficient. I am not video editing on this machine but if your looking for a word processing, email responding, work machine these are great value for the money. I wish this was more like $250 but if I was in need of a new economical daily drive I would consider this deal especially with the AI pricing right now on new equipment.

M1 processor has been decompiled a year or 2 ago (with AI REA I'm sure the others will follow soon) there is a Linux distribution for the cpu/gpu drivers so you could shift to Linux and use this for as long as the battery lasts. I had one from launch until last year and was still a beast. Sold mine near mint for $300 on fbm

I'd add that the Air has a backlit keyboard. That's a big one for me.

dont bb orders by default get 1 year warranty?
i think the type of person that will get this, wont feel the difference in speed. i still have my mba1 since it release, snappy as ever; used when traveling

This is a great laptop deal! better than a base Neo in many cases if you're just doing basic tasks for half the price. You get a backlit keyboard and Touch ID arguably much more useful for someone that doesn't need the slightly faster processor.
