Quick update on Trevor: They took him to an eye specialist who treats small children. Confident can surgically drain the blood from his left eye, but his right eye has blood on both sides of the retina. Poor little sweet pea! I need to check flights for a quick weekend to go snuggle him up! He turns 10 months today!

GT, we have those same cicada killer wasps and thus, the trees around our house are fairly quiet. Compared to other streets. Freaked me out the first time I saw one of them - I was so scared it was like a killer bee or something, I actually broke a window in the house, trying to kill it. laugh out loud Did I mention it flew in the house? Mmm, yeah, it did. While I was home alone, with the kids. nod Ended up spraying it with hair spray and it couldn't move anymore. Big Grin Saved it for a kid's science project. When I looked it up, it made me giggle that it was actually a killer bee, just not in the way I was thinking.

Quote from Bronc :
GG, they don't use vocal cords to make the noise. The adult male cicada possesses two ribbed membranes called tymbals, one on each side of its first abdominal segment. By contracting the tymbal muscle, the cicada buckles the membrane inward, producing a loud click. As the membrane snaps back, it clicks again. The two tymbals click alternately.

Air sacs in the hollow abdominal cavity amplify the clicking sounds. The vibration travels through the body to the tympani, which amplify the sound.

Yuck, right?
fascinating, actually.
don't the membranes get sore? something on that damn cicada needs to get sore. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

I am having Hotmail issues so any who might email me, don't. PM me here instead. I am so frustrated. A few days ago I started getting delivery failure notices for emails I didn't send. Ok, fine, I know it's possible to make it look like emails came from an account they didn't.

Other than that my account is working fine. I use Firefox and have hotmail in my toolbar. One click and there I am. Last night I decided I should probably change my password just in case. So, I clicked options, etc. It asks for your password. I give it. Nope. Wrong. No big deal, I forgot I changed it a while back. Use the new password. Uh, oh. I chose the "forgot my password" option.

I can't answer the secret question. Well, I can, but it doesn't match. Your first pet. So, really I wasn't sure, I could have used a couple things for that. So, I did the "send it to me" at my alternate email address. When you do that it pops up a portion of the email address. It wasn't mine.

Ok, now, I'm frustrated. But I can still access my account. I did delete a bunch of stuff I had in there and copied or saved some other info. This morning I click my little link in FF and it's asking for my password. Now, I am totally locked out. Of course, to ask for help at hotmail on the forums or anywhere else, you have to... .... SIGN IN. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Finally, I found a recovery thing where you fill out a form, answer questions including previous passwords, and a number to be able to go post more info. We shall see.

As it stands, I'm probably dumping this email for anything I care about but there are people/places I need to notify. I don't have contacts saved since a while back it was sending my contacts erection medication emails, but at least I can start typing and they pop up.

Oh, yes, and I have a bunch of pictures backed up on my skydrive. I would just as soon delete them. Ok, hotmail bitching done for now.
....
your account has been hacked.
have a v bad migraine so not going into details.
don't abandon. the form you sent them is the way to go. they'll shut out the other person and get you back in. then set strong strong password.

We have locusts and grasshoppers, no rain for a month and 90+ temps. If the plague comes next, we are in trouble! Unless, you count the fungus growing in my lawn? Sounds like a story from the Bible!

What a long but great day.. Was planning on shopping today, but didn't leave the house all day and it was wonderful!

We have just relaxed and spent family time together all day.. playing board games, making cookies, etc.. And it was nice enough this evening to sit on the back porch for awhile..

My DD has been trying to fall asleep since about 5 pm though. I have kept her busy. No way was I gonna let her have a late evening nap.. We are doing so much better with bed time. Everytime she sit too still, I get her up and we play something.. We are watching her last TV show now, and about to head to bead for the night..

The family just finished their cookies, and I had a nice big cup of cinnamon coffee drool

I didn't sleep well last night, so I am hoping for an early night myself Yawn

have a great night everyone hug

I've turned into GG! woot

Started JJ on the Feingold diet 6 days ago and he's emerging into a happy and much calmer little boy!

I was surprised @ how many preservative/artificial color/artificial flavor FREE products that ST carries. Which made me happy when I had to restock the pantry. I always thought he ate pretty healthy snacks (Cheerios, goldfish pretzels, granola bars & loads of grapes, raisins, apples and other fruits). Turns out he's pretty sensitive to all of those chemicals in those foods, not to mention all of the salicylates in the grapes & apples. We'll reintroduce grapes & apples after 6 weeks to see if he still goes bonkers. Poor little dude!
I'm so excited that this is working for JJ. Keep us posted on how it's going, I've always been fascinated how things like diet and sleep affect behavior.

Yes GG, those are exactly the things we've removed from his diet. Anything with artificial colors (made from petroleum vomit) or artificial flavors. BHT & BHA are also big no no's for him. Lots of products use these chemicals and don't even have to list them on their ingredients b/c they are not IN the product but often times they are used on the lining of the can, bag or pan they've cooked in. We also removed apples & grapes from his diet because of the high salicylate content. The thinner the skin of the fruit the higher the content of this natural pesticide. Tomatoes are also high in sals, but we still has BLTs for dinner...not JJ he had 3 scrambled eggs & watermelon. I thought that was a nasty combonation, but he begged for watermelon and gobbled it up. Must be b/c he knew it was from Poohba's garden.

Anyway, we've seen a tremendous improvement in JJ's behavior & speech! We've changed his soap, shampoo, lotion, his toothbrush (why do they have to dye the bristles a myriad of colors?!) his toothpaste...anything he comes in contact with has been replaced with a natural non chemically treated product.

Even adults have horrendous side effects from trying to process these chemicals.

People think it's the sugar in candy and other treats that make kids hyper...shake head it's the chemicals from the artificial colors & flavors!

Oh, I've been compiling a list ofnthings that I'm finding @ ST that are on his approved food list (meaning they've been researched and confirmed to be chemical free) and i'd be more than happy to share that list with whomever would like it. The price difference in products isn't very much either.

Now it's a matter of wrangling up a whole new set of tou-pons! laugh out loud

indeed, it is the chemicals! (but you don't want to get me started on this, cos it just makes me so angry to see what companies are dumping into american families' bodies all in the name of profit and marketing. a lot of this stuff is banned in europe, but somehow it's considered okay to poison american children)

so glad to hear he's doing so much better and you guys have been able to find good alternatives for him.

and it is amazing how much of a difference one notices after eliminating those products from one's life. even for the non-allergic adults, we just don't realize how these chemicals are impacting us until they're not in our bodies. we've noticed a HUGE difference in our skin ever since we switched body/face washes, laundry detergent, eliminated dryer sheets, and took to chlorine-free feminine hygiene products.

good luck and i pray he keeps improving and is always a happy, healthy baby!

hahahah.
what's the feingold diet (too tired to research)? i'm glad he's doing better. heart

i used to eat honey nut cheerios thinking i was eating healthy food. come to find out most conventional cereals (and other grain products, as well as supermarket frozen meats, frozen fish etc) have a preservative called BHT (or a relative of it). It's designed to prevent discoloration/rancidity - extend shelf life and profits. only problem, the chemical in that preservative is the same as that in embalming fluid. EEK!
and of course, the toxic biological impact list is considerable.
and that's just the preservative. that's not counting the caramel food coloring (shown to cause lung, liver and thyroid tumors, as well as hypertension), and the pesticides in the grains, sugar and all other ingredients in the cereal etc. exhausting.

so unfortunately, the truth is that many of the foods that we've been picking as being healthy for our loved ones, are not healthy at all. we make the choice based on conventional nutritional wisdom and with the best of intentions, not realizing that they've then been doused with really toxic chemicals.

grapes and apples are high pesticide residue fruits because of their thin skins and high sugar content. the conventional versions are also coated in a chemical wax again to extend shelf life and make them shiny. if you find stores in your area carrying the organic versions, you might want to try those on him first, to see how he reacts.
if you can't find organic versions, for the apples, you can make a mix of baking soda and organic lemon juice (you can use the bottled pasteurized juice), wash the whole apples in that, scrubbing with a fruit brush. that will help remove the waxy coating and also reduce some of the pesticide residue trapped in the skin.

corn and soy - i know you mentioned allergies for him, so this is more a general thing for everyone: majority of the corn and soy grown conventionally in the US comes from genetically modified seeds. the seeds were genetically modified by large pesticide companies like Monsanto so that the plants would tolerate/absorb the most toxic pesticides made by those companies. so, buy their seeds, then buy their pesticides. many of the seeds are also designed so they can't be used from year to year. farmers have to get new ones each year. more money for the pesticide giants.

how does this affect you as a parent/consumer? the GMO (genetically modified organism) crops are very highly sprayed with the harshest pesticides, because that's what they're designed to withstand. and those high levels of chemicals are making it into food. GMO's first came into the market in the early 1990s with a tomato variety. corn and soy are more recent growths, but you can already see that the incidences of soy and corn allergies are growing dramatically.

there isn't enough scientific evidence yet to know how the GMO seeds themselves (without any spraying) affect human health because of their changed genetic structure. but many consumers are wary. multiple national polls have shown that an overwhelming majority of shoppers would like their food labeled to note when it is made from GMO ingredients, but the pesticide giants have been lobbying against it, saying it would be like putting a skull and crossbones symbol on food. EEK!

at any rate, as a consumer, if you're concerned about corn and soy allergies, or are concerned about your family being introduced to high levels of toxins, stay away from the conventional corn and soy products. if you're going to eat either, only pick organic. if you buy fresh corn on the cob, get it from a small family farm, and ask what they spray, what seeds they use etc. exhausting, but for now those are the only options. in some instances - organic tofu vs conventional tofu - there isn't a huge price difference, maybe 40-50c a box. frozen corn products are also pretty close in line with the conventional counterparts. fresh corn on the cob is harder to come by organically and you do see a bigger price difference there - say 99c an ear organic vs 49c an ear for a non spraying conventional small family farm, vs 20-25c for the genetically modified, pesticide sprayed version.
things like cornstarch, cornmeal - again not a big price between organic and conventional, even more so if you catch em in a sale.

we only get organic ears of corn a few times in the summer as a treat because it is still pricey. it's one example of a place where choosing organic, i will choose to do without if i can't find/is too expensive, rather than go the pesticide route.

if you're interested in finding out what other crops are commonly GMO, and what the modification is, what the names are, wikipedia has a good list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene...ified_food. really does help you watch out for those items.

The Non-GMO Food Project has also compiled a list of food products/companies that are verified GMO free (because of cross contamination, Angry even many natural and organic foods are now not completely GMO free). You can find that list here: http://www.nongmoproject.org/cons...-products/

To find the list of nonGMO items your local Whole Foods carries (if you have one near you), go to the store web page for your local store and look for the link on the left. WF stores fall into national regions (i believe there are 6 regions, but I might have that number wrong), and each region has its own list based on local products. That's helpful when shopping - WF created this list after pressure from shoppers, who were spending dollars trying to get clean, healthy food and still were unsure what they were getting. It is a work in progress.

thanks for heads up. won't see it then.

we saw 2 3-d movies in this new fangled, advanced 3-d of today. didn't like it. the glasses gave me a headache (i have 20/20 vision) and made much of the tribe either headachy or nauseous. so we decided 2 tries was enough. no more 3d for us.

do the 3d tvs do the same thing? you have to wear glasses at home?
I thought you said you were tired? Wink J/K Love reading your posts!
