So I just experienced my first earthquake and hope to never experience one again! I have to say it was a little exciting, but only because I was in my van. If I had been at home, it would have totally freaked me out. People on FB are saying it was strong enough to rattle dishes and rock computers and that sort of thing. 5.8 magnitude. Crazy!!!

The guy next to me was on a conference call with people from Harrisonburg VI, They had to get off the call and head to the basement. They never called back. I hope they are ok

I can't get any calls out - I think the system is just overloaded. Reminds me of 9/11. Frown

As far as I can tell, no serious damage was done. They did evacuate most, if not all, of the federal buildings in DC, as a precaution. Hubby's building was evacuated. They just had a fire drill this morning, and now they're back outside again. laugh out loud At least its beautiful weather.

I'm worried about how far north of Richmond it was centered. Fredericksburg isn't too far north of Richmond. (I used to live in F'burg and King George).

My phone msg to my best friend wasn't returned.

I haven't heard any reports at all of damage anywhere, despite the earthquake being felt from Boston to Greenville and as far west as Ohio. I'm sure your friend is fine. hug The phone systems are still recovering from the overload, so that is probably all it is.

Thornburg is about 45 miles north of Richmond. There is a nuclear plant on Lake Anna, just west of there.

My local news is reporting that 2 nuclear power plants were taken offline near the site of the quake and no damage is reported.
