hey photos101, great travelocity hotel deal here... will save you money for disney.
one time i was in AZ i think and bought a case of water. next time i bought water in a store next town over i was charged tax so the price was different. showed cashier my receipt from the other store and she just took it off.
cvs is currently messed up. they can't decide to charge tax b4 or after ecb's here. i've been staying away b/c it can make a huge difference sometimes.
==============
Geez, I spent all day yesterday cleaning. I don't know what my daughter and these dogs did while I was gone but it sure has heck wasn't cleaning. I had both washer going a good part of the day too.
I still have stuff to unload from the van and deal with. All the fishing stuff is still in there, along with a Rubbermaid with a little food, and a 4 piece set of oak end tables for DD and... who knows.
Did I tell you my DH bought two boxes of cuckoo clocks, there are 15 or 16 in there. We don't know how many are complete, how many work or don't or what they need. It was one of those really odd timing things. The first day of our trip we stopped in this antique store in the town where we were staying. Lady asked if we were looking for anything, was chatty, etc. One of us told her that we had bought a cuckoo clock in there 2 years ago and that he was able to fix it, blah blah blah. She asked if we were interested in more clocks. Umm depends on what they are, how much, etc. Cuckoos -- she just brought them over today, she hadn't even unloaded then from her car. We just offered her a price for them all and she took it.
Her husband messed with them and worked on them and she cleaning out some of that stuff. She was supposed to dig out and haul over some more but didn't get to it. I'm kind of anxious to start digging through them and see what is what.
Ok, I'm off to the kitchen to find the apple cake recipe. I know it's in our family cookbook, I'm just not sure which one.
Cream Together:
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter or shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
Sift together:
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon (I use a little more - about a tablespoon)
1/2 tsp. salt
Mix the dry ingredients into the butter/sugar a little at a time alternating the dry with 1 cup of milk. (I use whole milk)
Once it's combined add 2 cups of peeled, chopped apples.
Dump into a greased/sprayed 9 x 13 cake pan -- Bake at 375 for 45 - 50 minutes
There is a topping recipe that goes with this. I don't use it, I hate coconut. But I'll give it to you anyway:
2/3 cup brown sugar
1 cup coconut
1/3 cup butter
1/2 cup nuts (pecans or walnuts)
Mix together, sprinkle on top before baking.
I bake the cake and frost it. I use a couple different ones depending on what I am in the mood for. I either make maple butter cream, cream cheese, or a mock caramel.
Maple Butter Cream -- just your basic butter and powdered sugar and add some maple extract or maple syrup.
Cream Cheese - about half a brick of cream cheese, a stick of butter, powdered sugar
Mock caramel dip - an 8 oz. cream cheese and 2 cups of brown sugar. Beat the living daylights out of it. Seriously, put it on a stand mixer and let it go for probably 15 minutes.
This is a pretty good apple dip. I used to make it for my kids when they were little. I almost always had cream cheese and brown sugar on hand but didn't always have what I needed for real caramel.
But since I'm on the topic of caramel, I'll give you that one too. And yes, you could put this on top of the cake and it would be delicious.
Caramel
1 can sweetened condensed milk
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 stick butter
Cook it altogether on low stirring frequently until it's all combined, the sugar is melted and it's not grainy. You can do this on the stove top on low heat or in the microwave. Microwave works really well and reduces the risk of scorching. It takes less than 10 minutes to make.
Apple cake recipe sound delicious. Which apple do you like for this?
Good morning and thanks for the help! These people are a handful!

a) HAPPY BIRTHDAY in advance!
b) glad to be of help! atleast that rabbit wasn't around swatting its tail.
b) you really don't like it quiet around the house do you?
I have a cuckoo clock mum and dad bought me when I was 8 or so. we were in switzerland, and there is this small town where there are cuckoo clockmakers whose families have made them for generations. so we went to an artisan's place to see how they are made and then I picked one out. it's awesome: time, temp, weather. but then a few years ago a spring broke in transporting it from one house to another. i need to have it repaired, but the specialty cuckoo clock places here said, sorry, we're going to have to send it back to switzerland for repair. i'm not sure i trust dhl/ups etc with my precious cuckoo clock. twas expensive then. it's worth a fortune now, probably.

I used to have delicious trees and they were also good. They were the small, sweet delicious -- not those giant ones with no flavor.

b) (the second b) Oh, we don't only have cuckoo clocks, we have mantle clocks and wall clocks too. More often than not, a lot of them aren't running. They work, they are just stopped. My daughter has hyperacusis and the ticking hurts her ears. One mantle clock doesn't make noise, so it runs and one other one isn't very loud and it is my go to clock. I can see it from my loveseat and it is accurate. She is threatened with death if she stops that one. but when they are all running -- you ought to be here at noon!
HD twice on the hour
Depending on what we end up with out of this lot of clocks, we may sell some. Otherwise, if we ever get that damn family room done, we are thinking the one long wall may be a clock wall.
We also one empty bedroom down there now and another one soon -- as soon as DD moves into her own house. I think we will keep bedroom furniture in one (we have another guest room on the main floor and sure don't need three) and the other one may literally be a clock room with a nice repair bench.
After all that babbling what I really wanted to say is --- if you know what broke in your clock why don't you order the part and replace it yourself? I'd also look around for another repair person even if you have to drive a ways.

you can't repair this yourself. it's very complex.
there are a handful of cuckoo clock shops in the US that deal with clocks of this lineage/complexity. i have called them ALL. one store had a guy working on cuckoo clocks for some 50 years. the consensus? to switzerland it must go, to the original clockmaking shop.
they're willing to take care of that for me - call the place, set up the repair, insure and send. but i am so afraid.
clock sounds... when we were little we had 3 wind up alarm clocks. we kids LOATHED waking up for school especially in the cold winters. you had to be inside the school premises before 8:00 to not be considered tardy and they usually locked the doors at 7:59., plus there was always tons of morning traffic and school traffic. so all that meant waking up EARLY.
so, the plan was set one clock, set the next one to go off about 20 mins later, and the third one 20 mins later. and of course we would exhaust all the snooze chances on each clock.
but while my whole family was sleeping, I would lie there all night long going batty with the tick tock. it was like drum beats in a silent room. eventually i could feel my heart beating to it.
so i took to taking the alarm clocks and burying them in chairs and couches with pillows and quilts and stuffed toys on top. suffice it to say, we missed the alarms on many mornings.
it drove my parents loony. left me feeling very satisfied.
cuckoo clock wall... LOVE that idea!
tn - Hope you got your computer fixed? I hate a virus. They can be so frustrating.
I had new furniture delivered yesterday, and of course they couldn't tell me if it was going to be AM or PM delivery, so I just worked around the house. They showed up at 3:15. I could have worked most of the day
I don't know how long I won't have a computer at home. Stu's just a computer geek and he's not fast, but
now that would be SD worthy!

GG Thanks for the deal. Would be nice deal, but we are staying on-site and DS is booked thru group rate with the school. I am hoping for a pin code or free dining but nothing has come up yet.
Wanted to go to T today but ended up in a town with only a WM. Did great there though, pretty coupon friendly. My total was a little low for me, but being as WM's cpn policy is so friendly it was all ok. EXCEPT dang sales tax..yep I usually shop in the state over (30min drive) that taxes after cpns. This town was in state that tax BC.. so my $1.18 purchase cost me $4.36 uggh. At least it was worth it since my before coupon total was $37.08.
I did notice that the Covergirl foundation sponge applicators are only $2.94. AND in case you are really sticking to what covergirl says is a 'face product', I do believe someone said CG considers the tools 'face products', hmm go figure. Now if only I could find a cheaper source for the $8/2 cpns cause the bay is way too much!
Pork chops for dinner -- big, thick ones -- just because they are thawed out and need eaten. Doesn't really sound that good though. Maybe DH will grill them. I don't know why I buy the damn things. They look so good and they are, it's just that we aren't that nuts about pork. I do live in Iowa though. I think it's required eating here.

GC deal on K-Cups! Still not as good a deal as I have gotten them before the price hike at Kohl's but if you need them and have some T GC's to use, might be worth it.
