I have paid off my last credit card today! After taking on almost $20,000 in credit card debt when I got divorced in Aug 2010, I have paid it all off. Faint I feel pretty good about getting it done in less then two years.

I was watching some old hoarders episodes - and it started motivating me. But lately, even that doesn't work. Today I was in my bathroom and I thought - "Well... at least it is not as bad as the ones on the show. I can still get in here and still use the toilet..." So maybe I need to tap back into flylady.

OK, have to get this off my chest somewhere, and figured might as well be here in the Target Chit-Chat thread. I shop at Target a good two to three times a week (The wife and I live two blocks away from one) So they finally talked me into bringing in my Checkbook (which I had to dust off... haven't' wrote a check in ages), and opened up the Target Red card debit card. Fine, so now I can save 5% every time I shop there, which is quit often. So, we've used the red card about 6 times now, no trouble...takes about 3 days or so to come out of our checking account. Well today, big grocery shopping day, $180 bucks worth, pull out my red card to save my 5%, and it's declined. I'm like why? We run it again...declined. So I pull out my debit card (same account this red card is linked to) and it runs thru just fine. I ask, how do I get my 5% then? I have to call the number on the card...fine. Not gonna stand at the store and let all my stuff melt away while I call. So get home, call... they say there's no reason why it should decline, and I have to call their check authorizing place "Certegy".. Fine, call them, lady checks out all my info, can't find any reason why it should of declined... she tells me I have to call the red card number. Ha! I say, just got off the line with them, told to call you at Certegy. So she puts me on hold... ten minutes... she comes back and says red card and they are both saying it should have went thru. OK, how do I get my 5%? She says to call the red card back and ask them.... HOLY CRAP!!! Fine, decide to eat lunch with the wife first, then call. Explain it all to a different lady, who doesn't speak very clear or fluent English. She asks me if I'm still at the store? What? I told her I was on the phone over 40 minutes before I decided to eat lunch... if I was at the store, I would be more pissed off than I'm getting now. She puts me on hold.... at least 10 minutes... then comes back and says there's nothing she can do about it, since I left the store. So I said fine, you know what... this isn't worth 5% off, $9 off this trip, all she'd have to have done to keep me happy is say, I'll send you a $9 gift card, and hope this doesn't happen again. I told her it's not worth my time either, and to just cancel the red card, cause I won't go thru this again, when you guys can't even figure out what the hell is wrong with your system... just a glitch? Yeah, sorry. Well she starts talking all fast and mad at me like I'm ruining her day... I keep repeating that I don't understand her, and she just yells, that she closed the account and that I wouldn't be able to open a red card again. OK... I'm fine with that, my time is a tad more valuable than dealing with idiots who can't figure out what went wrong, or a way to try to make a customer happy.
So I'll just keep using my regular debit card thru my bank, and screw saving 5%, and the embarrassment of being in line with a cart full of stuff, and a group of angry shoppers behind me, for the poor clerk to tell me my red card has been declined.

Thanks for letting me rant, I use coupons and bargain shop, and make my wife and my money stretch as best as I can, but they can kiss my ass if I'll deal with this again. I've never been denied, never bounced a check, and we have great credit and a very good sum of money in all our accounts, because I'm very through on our bills and money...and I'm a great savings type.

I can't say I will never shop there again. If they have a good deal - and I have hours to spend trying to get it to work - I might shop there. And I DO really like the manager at one local store. But I will always consider Kmart, in general, to be something akin to an enemy - and not quite trust them.

The TP discussion was a classic though jteef... they charged you for one too many (over $5 original cost... no coupons for the item, as you didn't expect them to ring up too many), but then to only offer you a little over $1 back for their overring? Crazy
