How odd that the system can be fixed when the mistake is on Kmart's part.
I think most people squawked initially - but they have moved on. They paid for their purchases with points. So now they have a large negative balance. Some have a VERY large negative balance. P&G was paying bonus points AND in some areas the $10 P&G CRT was still printing. So those folks could buy razors, shampoo, etc - ROLL their $10 P&G CRT, pay with coupons and points, get MORE points - and just keep it rolling. So some of those folks got real BIG negative balances.
BUT - many of them have just walked away from the old card, opened a new card, and moved on. Because they actually came out okay. They got lots of stuff without paying anything OOP. And they are able to start building points again, without the negative balance around their neck.
I was in an area that wasn't printing the P&G CRTS during the whole ordeal. So my transactions were $10 more from the start. But they still were okay - because I was getting bonus points.
I paid with cash - and was saving my points for a large purchase. So when they took the points - it feels like they took something I actually paid for. I would not have paid the prices they charged, if it hadn't been for the bonus points - because there wasn't any other P&G promotion going on at the time.

But when you don't get the $5 gift card - the employees just tell you "Oh.. those just print at random..." "You have to buy certain things - you must not have bought the right thing."
You show them the little stub that printed that says that you GOT a $5 GC. You say "But this says I got one."
They tell you "Oh, those just print all the time.."
If you ask them to void and re-ring - and get them to enter your dang SYWR number BEFORE they scan anything - the GC magically appears.
But I imagine many people spend the $50 - don't get a GC - and just listen to whatever reason the employee pulls out of their (brain).
Last month - they had a month long deal where you buy four Nestles stand up bags for $10 and get $5 off at the register.
The Nestles bags didn't ring up at 4 for $10 - and they didn't prompt for the $5 off. Manager after manager price adjusted the candy and gave $5 GCs to make up for the $5 that didn't come off. But NO ONE ever FIXED it in the system ALL MONTH.
I wonder how many people bought the candy based on the ad - and never checked their receipt. Or how many people noticed, but were told they must have bought the wrong candy...
I was at a Kmart the last day of the Monthly Ad. It still wasn't working. I was told I bought the wrong candy. Even though the raisinetes actually did ring up for $2.50 - I was told "Those are 2/$5; NOT 4/$10 - so they aren't part of the promotion.
I said "Then show me the candy that is in the promotion. The manager trotted around the store pointing to the candy that was labeled 4/$10. (Uhmmm. Snickers... that is Mars, not Nestles). She finally find some Nestles stand up bags and they scanned at $3.29. Yep. They STILL weren't programmed in the system.
The manager refused to give me a $5 GC for the Raisinetes. I emailed Kmart and asked to be provided with a list of the candy that qualified for the promotion. No one knew. Finally, the store manager called and offered me a $5 GC.
How many hours did that take - to get something that should have been instantly done at check out?
I wonder how many people get sucked in by their ads and buy in to the excuse that they bought the wrong thing.
I really think that some Attorney Generals would be interested in some of Kmart's advertising practices. I don't think that Kmart intentionally advertises things and doesn't plan on giving it to the consumer. But their system is often set up where it doesn't work - and customers are told they didn't buy the right thing, when, in fact, they did.
They are on sale for .98 until July. So you can buy 5 for less than $5 and get $4 back.
You might want to check and see if your store has them on sale too (and if they trigger the cat)
