My daughter took her car to pep boys two days ago for an oil change, paid for it an "evaluation and an air filter"., in addition to an oil change . Today car wants to stall , she checks her oil, doesn't even raech the line on the dipstick, checks oil sticker still the one from from dec.also pep boys (same one).I have to wonder now if they changed it then
Ther never did the oil change and had her car for two days ,couldn't find her keys when to she went to pick it up.
She is at work and can't leave but is livid , she had a brake light out and they didn't tell her ,she replaced that herself Monday , didn't fill her fluids winshield washer etc
Now we can't figure out if they drained her oil ,didn;t replace it or replaced it didn't put plug in, or what ???
They obviously did nothing else that is normally included in the oil change srvice she paid over $60.00 to have this car possibly ruined. UNBELIEVABLE !!!!
Can't wait to see what if anything , they do for her.
1- they park their cart in front of what they want while being wandering up and down the aisle with their binder filled with every possible manufacturer's coupon available pondering what to buy or not.
2-lack of product.
3-if another couponer sees you are shopping similar items they are, they will sometimes slowly trail behind you to see what you get. i am guessing this one doesn't happen to often with others..which leads to another one
4-being asked if i have extra coupon's to give them if they stop for conversation. some of them don't even know about matching manufacturer Q's with Target Q's which gets them to ask me.
5-being asked if i am an extreme couponer while checking out.
so i have a question for yall. do you all travel with binders and stacks of every coupon you have or do you pre-plan ahead?
i tend to pre-plan with a written list of items divided by section of things to definitely buy (with minor notes of Q exclusions) and then i write below items to *price check* while there. it definitely saves me time from having to go through binders or coupon folders to research and figure out the best deal.
Zip in and out of store. No looking around.
have a so far 2 day headache.

2- lack of product is very common around here. even when the biggest supermarket chain here has a limit of 4 per variety and 4 like q's doubling. i constantly have to get rainchecks everywhere.
3- don't think i've ever had someone follow me. i did one time shop at the same time as another slickdealer. we bumped into each other 3 times looking for the same stuff. too much coincidence. couldn't find any of it. i know there are other slickdealers in my area but i think they tend to come and go. i'll see somebody post they went to one of my stores but it only lasts maybe a few months. i think somebody lasted over a yr but that's it. i know there is another sd'er in my town and we've tried to meet up at the supermarket but we prefer different locations and shop at different times. he also stopped posting after a few months.
4- never been asked for a q by a stranger. around here everybody minds their own business. i have seen people contemplating stuff and have been severely tempted to offer them a coupon but i've only done it once or twice. they usually look at you like you are a nut case. so while i'd like to, in the end i don't. actually somebody did offer me a coupon recently by an elderly couple but i actually had more coupons than they did. except for meat and produce, many times i have a coupon for every item i am buying.
actually last wk this guy did comment about the eggo waffles in my shopping cart, saying that they were full of chemicals. so then i told him his grapes are on the dirty dozen list as being in the top 12 produce items in having the most pesticides. we are not shopping at trader joes, whole foods or whole earth center. seriously, what do you expect???
5- never been asked about extreme couponing. my sil tried for a little while to get into couponing after watching the show but she's given up. another friend also tried but she didn't have the patience either.
i pre-plan. in this area everything at the supermarket is very expensive unless it's on sale. but when it's on sale it's really, really cheap. and then with double coupons, walmart and target just cannot compete most of the time. we don't have supertargets or superwalmarts so you have to go to the supermarket. so then i very rarely go to walmart and i mostly shop target for clearance, then stuff w/ tq/mq stack but i wait to see if it will go on sale too. a lot of my target shopping ends up being free crap that i normally wouldn't buy but i do b/c it's free, maybe a little tax. so my house is filling up w/ target crap. i used to shop target for the wkly sales, but about 6-7 yrs ago, they stopped being competitive w/ the supermarket and i almost never buy anything from the wkly circular anymore.
if you get into the rhythm and cycle of the sales and stockpile enough from each supermarket sale, you can get into the mode of just buying when groceries are on sale and you have a q except for produce and meat.
so w/ the lack of product, the limit of 4 like q's doubling and sometimes the enforcement of 4 like q's total, stuff being crazy expensive unless it's on sale and the fact that it costs a gallon of gas roundtrip to my favorite supermarket, the way i shop is to go thru the coupon matchups in the corresponding sd thread, go thru the sales flyer, print out a shopping list and put together an envelope of q's. then i shop off my list and my envelope.
i will carry my coupon organizers w/ me, but at the supermarket that will be more for my bff. i used to clip every single q every wk and file them and we used to go together about every 3 wks and i would end up giving her about 10.00 in q's each time but that was too time consuming. now i only clip the q's of stuff i normally buy and from coupon matchups and the rest gets left at home. i always carry my coupon organizers in a canvas bag b/c every time i leave home w/o it i always find something on clearance that i clipped a q for. in that canvas bag i also carry the sales flyers for the 2 supermarkets i normally go to, and envelopes for cvs/wags, walmart and target. many times i'll end up not doing cvs/wags and walmart b/c i'll only have 1-2q's and the gas roundtrip and time just makes it not worthwhile.
for target i have a 3 pocket canvas pencil case i got 75% off clearance from bts, i'd bought it thinking i could find a good use for it. in there i have paperclipped all the tq/mq stacks and tq's and mq's for deals i read about. i usually wait to see if it will go on sale at some point b4 the tq expires which means i usually end up waiting till the last wk b4 i buy something. this wk will be revlon and garnier shampoo and conditioner. the high volume target is nearby the supermarket. so normally i go to target first and check to see if there is any short-dated meat and then go to the supermarket so my frozen stuff is bought last. i usually don't have a shopping list for target, i just shop out of my target coupon organizer. i go around the store checking to see if the item is also on sale and if they have any stock. and then i do a perimeter perusal for clearance. i wish i could combine coupon shopping and perimeter perusing but i end up zig zagging thru the store looking for the coupon items so it never works out.

Does anyone know if the $4/1 Qs for Glad products (on ebay) are legit?
I think my brain is warped... Publix has a $10 off a $50 gas card wyb $50 in groceries (total before coupons). $50 for me is TOUGH to do with all the stuff I have at the house. I had my list all ready, Publix doesn't carry Shout Wipes, so that was out, they didn't have (even a sign) for the $1 Oscar Mayer bologna, and apparently also don't carry the small Marie Callender's cream pies. So I got it down to $68, but
ss and TM4D- I had to google TCP to figure out what it meant.

I see tons of binder ladies...my favorite encounter was 2 of them in front of the trial bins for over 45 mins. Told my sweet cashier I hope they didn't come through her line. She
I've also seen quite a few people (men included) with fists full of coupons. They only have mqs so I tell them about t.com & try to share tqs for items in their cart. They are very thankful.

Never had anybody follow me, and that would be just too weird.
I do notice some competition regarding stock, but its usually the easy things at Target, like the ibuprofen. I'm almost always able to get what I need at all my stores, which is really nice.
And I *never* shop with my binder.
I ALWAYS start at the same isle to shop. Go in a circle till I am back at the checkout. Therefore, I can pretty much see the Target layout in my head. So I get my q's ready ahead of time, in that order. I keep my envie of cpns in my purse, until I am ready to pull the ones I plan to use. So, I may go thru all of cleaning, h&b and get all the items I want. Then head to food/groceries. Sometimes I will pull the q's after I have hit up the first section then proceed and sometimes I will just wait and mosey over to the clothing dept and pull them there.
I have realized that since there are more cpners, there is less stock. Therefore, I try not to draw attention to what q's I have and what items I am looking at/buying. Most of the time, while I am looking at items, my q's are in my purse out of site, and I have cpners offering me q's for the item. LOL
One time I was looking at Dove chocolate (my favorite) and a lady offered me a mq and tq. She just assumed I didn't have a clue about them. She proceeded to tell me that she had enough to get 20 bags and was filling up her cart. She offered me 2 sets. Even though I had a cpl sets already (which she couldn't see), I accepted them from her, thanked her as if I had no clue about cpns. HEHE..I know, horrible thing to do right?, but come on she had already loaded her cart with 18 bags.
Went over to an unobvious isle in the childrens section and pulled the q's I had already planned to use. Luckily, I usually have my dh with me so he can push the basket and I can concentrate on the items/cpns I need. I do a glance over as we are walking to the registers, just to make sure I have all q's out I need. Easy and incognito!!
AND If I do pull them as I shop, they are usually out of site. Either in the cart seat, under an item or in my purse.
No one needs to know I plan to pay with cpns until I hand them over. Especially the eyes in the sky at Target.
I always know what I plan to buy and what q's I have to buy it with. Like HD said 'in and out'. Welllll, I do make a trip down the endcaps for clearance stuff.
Can anyone tell me how the schick b1g1 are acting? A PM would be great if you have the info. I have them in my envie but like to be prepared at checkout. Thanks.
I am getting really bored with q's. WM is lame, WG is really lame. Nothing to do but Target and well, there doesn't seem to be much there either. Guess this is just a dry spell. Hoping it will pick up soon. I don't really NEED anything in particular but now that kids are out of school, I have all the time in the world to do whatever and figures, there is not even any good deals.
DH and DS will be gone all week next week at summer camp. DD has to work so I will be a free momma! Target better put out some new tq's so I can be entertained. LOL
Hope you all have a fabulous Thursday!
I do try to pick at leat one dept. at T and due a quick clerance check, but ususally it has already been posted here.
Other than that unless it;s something I'm specifically looking for , don't try to price check q match in store.
I'm actullly seeing the fixed income older people (including men ) with Q's more than other people.
I always try to kinda watch and see, if I can give them a coupon for something they are buying ,and then run to the car for my rreplacement q before I leave.
I also keep the binder in my canvas bag in case I spot an unexpected deal.
We have alot of doubling groceris here 75 cents goes to a $1.00, sooo I'm very judicous where I spend any particular coupon.
Target is frequently behind here unless they have a matching TQ, due to the doubling.
Cycles still allude me so I have to work on that. I just buy all of an item I can at what I know is a good price when I shop.
However storage here is a problem so getting the cycles down would be a help.
Update on dd's car , what a mess, had car towed , she was afraid to due any exrra damage to engine , went in with hubby and me and spoke to service rep. Wanted to know what made her think oil wasn't changed. , in a not nice tone She went down the
whole list while the mechanice checked the car , he service counter guy was telling her oil gets dirty in a old car as soon as you put in ( in two days) ?? I don't think so ... plus the oil was below the first line on the dip stick. The air filter they charged her for was obviously dirty.
Her father at that point just went and stood beside her.
Low and behold he then sys yes oil wsn't cnanged , the original mechanic had gotten interupted while draining fluid , put the plug back in and when he went to take car from lift "forgot " he hadn't finished . Just took it down and called it a day.
So his big sorry uh huh was to offer to do the oil change right then no wait , she asks for her money back for the oil change and filter, and tow , he has to get supervisor , tells her they won't refund the evaluation charge but will the rest .
Basically they wound up in the end just giving her a free oil change.
Have a feeling if dad wasn't there she wouln't have gotten that.
Th e main concern other then the obvious was YES her car is old, she is religious about getting that oil changed because she can't affor to replace it , so I am having my ccheck to see if any signs of damage to engine are evident. Thank god her work is only anout seven miles so she hadn't diven far. Sooo we'll see.
We won;t send her to Jiffy lube because they are notorious for this kind of thing.
Can't do it in the driveway, because it's an old honda and they put the oil filter in a funky place almost forcing you to pay for a oil change service, unless you have a lift.
Looks likes she has to take it to my mechanic from here on out. No coupopns there , shhhh...
Agreed, I had warned her ,shown her the numerous jiffy lube you tube videos of JL investigations etc.
My father actually marks his oil filter and climbs under to make sure it's been changed has caught several stablishments, not changing that and charging. My dad says it's fraud. He's a no nosense kind of guy.
Maybe now she'll heed my advice , this is either an intentional scam or just incompatance , but I've heard to many stories.
My nephew had his engine replaced by one of these qiuck change oil places, I don't remember which one,
the plug wasn't re-installed. It was quite an ordeal, their insurance co. had to get invlolved , .
Sooo if anyone wasn't aware of this stuff, it's not all that uncommon.
Maybe now shell stop thinking I'm a hard -***, fuss budget.

What they don't know is that they lost me for life. I won't be back in there for oil changes, or buying a new car, or anything! And I'm in the market to buy a Prius Wagon (I think)... but not from them.

Yeah that pep boys lost our parts business, and any future , maintance repair work, plus anybody I tell business , my husbans had two motorcycels , our three cars including daughters and he does wht he can himself, especially the easy expensive work shocks brakes etc ... all over what in your case maybe five minutes rotating tires , REALLY??? just don't see how that's sound practices.
I think also it's that woman thing when they think you don't know any better, just infuriates me.
Them like you said jsut try and convince them or anybody else, I swear you need before and after pics.
I hate to say it but a guy (even itf it's a friend can make all the differance).
I actually had a salesman try to sell me a particular model car cause I'd look cute in it REALLY???
I walked.
Good luck on your prius wagon hunt , that's exhausting new car shopping, and Toyotas model year changes differantly than Amercan cars.
Does your employer offer a no haggle low price service anyhere around there .?
Triple AAA used to haven't looked into it in a while.
Would a motorcycle work ?, they are great on gas , but then maybe not if you are looking for a wagon.
Oh and if you have a BJ's if you buy your tires there they offer free rotation for the life of the tire.
They usually have a $50 off coupon that's just for BJS and I believe that off a dollar amount as oppose d to # of tires.
