You photography buffs, what is a good solid camera in the $200 or so range (is that possible??) w/ a good optical zoom? I had fancy film (SLR) cameras back in the day, but when digital came out, I went to point & shoot. I was never happy w/ the zoom ability, but now it seems like there are more offerings. I don't care to have anything that I have to change lenses. I want something pretty easy to carry. I bought a Nikon Coolpix L310 on BF & like the zoom (21x), but am not sure that's the 1 for me, so I've left it in the box. Don't like that it uses AA batteries. I'm not a professional & won't be doing a lot of time-consuming editing. Zoom is the biggie for me. Will spend more if I need to. Any advice? TIA

HDD, did you have snow for Christmas? We had a few flakes today, but no accumulation.

We did have a white Christmas. It was so nice. Just a light snow on Christmas day. Still on the ground today but streets were clear and safe. Perfect. Just enough to be pretty and not dangerous.

Jealous! I would loved to have had the snow here.. All we had was "liquid snow". laugh out loud rained, all. day. long! DH family was heading out near your way and postponed the trip for a few days because of the snow/ice.

I guess I should head out tomorrow and try a few returns. DD got a shirt from her grandma that she hates from Kohls, a pair of rainboots that I bought her from T.com (but they have no tags Frown ) and I need to return some toys to Kohls and a soda stream machine to staples.. I hate returns but I do like that most stores are much more lenient right after Christmas!

Not really interested in any after clearance stuff until it hits atleast 70% off.. would love to get some outside decorations for next year, but not holding my breath on anything still being there.

we had 2 point and shoots, a sony cybershot that took AA batteries and an optio my brother gave me that has a proprietary battery.

imo, i think the AA's are a better method. after a few months the optio battery wouldn't last the whole day so towards the end i would always have to limit my pics. a new spare battery would have cost about $40 which was almost 50% of the cost of the camera. i'd rather spend the money on a new camera b/c the lens isn't all that hot.

w/ the sony, we would use eneloop rechargeables and carry a spare set of duracells just in case. always easy to find batteries if for some reason you forgot to recharge overnight. w/ the optio, if you ran out of batteries it was SOL and it happened a lot. i would always end up using dh's sony or have him take the picture.

if you go w/ a camera that uses a special battery, be sure to buy a spare right away. it should be cheaper when the camera is still on the market. and you will always have to make sure both are charged up b4 you go out for the day.

there should be a small tag inside the boots w/ the dpci. i've seen the LOD find the tag inside at the registers when the outside tag was missing.

Is that still available? I'm about to get a little bit of store credit and we could definitely start using these instead of always looking for battery deals (i'm not good at remembering I have Staples rewards Hide)

Thanks for the camera & battery input. I have a cybershot compact over 10 yrs old that is still my main camera.laugh out loud People w/ much nicer cameras have always drooled over the pics it takes. I guess it's the Carl Zeiss lens. Confused It's only like 4MP but takes amazing pics. Just doesn't have a sufficient zoom.
I feel better about a camera taking AAs now, so I won't let that be a factor.
BTW, we had our 1st ever white Christmas. And the state's 1st ever blizzard warning. laugh out loud We got almost a foot of snow & it's still heavy on the ground. I attached a couple of shots I took w/ my phone.

i'm pretty sure costco still sells eneloops but don't remember what configuration they sell now. i checked online and they only have alkaline duracells on their website. also problem is each store sells slightly different inventory to cater to local tastes and some stores are bigger than others so carries more selection.

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a good holiday season! It's been hectic here. I didn't even get Christmas cards out- hanging head in shame. Baby N is almost 6 months old now, it's just amazing to me that time has flown so fast this year. Smilie

Here's a picture of him from a few weeks ago
