That's right, I forgot to post about that. Some guys were talking on HBT about it.

any one ever use the hop citra? i see it in the hop cooler and i kinda want to single hop brew it... if it tastes like it sounds, it sounds like lemon or citric flavor...maybe a single hop blonde ale.

Have a silly question. Can you keg beer in a non refrigerated Corney, and if so how long will it last?

Sure. It's no different than a bucket or carboy. Just make sure to purge the oxygen from the corny. How long it will last depends on the style of beer. How long are you talking?

I used a corny to condition a beer for almost 6 months. I purged it a couple times but I'm told there was no reason to. This was after I fermented in a carboy. You can ferment in a corny too but you want to rack it (or draw out the yeast) so it's not sitting on deadies for too long.

The purging I'm talking about is just to displace the oxygen with CO2. You definitely do not want any oxygen in your beer. Oxygen is your worst enemy after the initial fermentation.

Locally a homebrew shop is selling 4 cornies for $110, but I can only fit two into my keezer. Was wondering if I should piece together a system instead buying a kit.

Yeah, I knew what you meant, I just also purged the carbonation once in a while as well.

blowing co2 and keeping the release valve open is great for stripping your beer of o2...but it kills your aromatics...

DH bottled his first all-grain batch today. Bourbon vanilla porter. I'm not a huge fan of it, but I can appreciate how great it turned out! Rock

I kegged my IPA today. Came out perfect. The hop bag weight didn't work out the way I planned. For a while, I had been putting the leaf hops right in the kegs. I kept the hops out of the beer line by putting a screen on the end of the intake at the bottom of the keg. But, I hate the cleanup and I want the option of taking the hops out. So, I'm trying paint strainers. They are very porous. I put a SS nut in there to weigh it down. But, it isn't heavy enough. The hops are floating with the nut in the bag. Damn.

On Monday I went to the new homebrew shop/gardening shop. Bought the grains for 10 gallons of Matt's stout recipe for $55 which included a sack of 2 row. Already have the hops from bulk buy and yeast from yeast washing. They also gave me a free beer and I took a tour of their keezer.

Are there any special instructions for storing grains? What is the ideal temperature and humidity? Currently they are conditioning in the car truck.

Go to Home Depot and buy some of those orange paint buckets that cost about $3 each. The lids have the rubber seals and are pretty much air tight. The main goal is to keep bugs and excess humidity out. Buy extra lids though. They break after some usage. They are only $1 each. I have about 6 of these buckets stacked up in my garage with my grain in them. Just make sure it doesn't get too hot where you store them. Also, don't crush the grain until you are getting close to brewing. I don't crush until the morning of. Uncrushed grain keeps for a long time.
