According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show's producers couldn't fit everything they needed into the highly anticipated series finale -- so ABC gave them an extra half-hour to work with.
The big finale airs Sunday May 23 -- from 9-1130pm
I predict surprise (and important) appearances from Walt and Vincent. Walt had these powers they barely touched on, and other than Locke seeing him briefly, he's been mostly out of the picture since leaving the island. To just not have him be a factor at the end would definitely feel like a part of the Lost universe that got unceremoniously left behind. Vincent? Well, maybe he won't do something really important (anything a dog jumps in and does that's real important is going to be hokey), but maybe he'll just show up and they can all go YAYYYY Vincent!
The Jacob episode was interesting but I can see why some didn't like it. It seems like something that should have been done sooner. Having it as the third to last episode is sort of frustrating because it kills a bit of the momentum. Still, important things were revealed... like how we know how the wheel that released the energy got there in the first place, as well as exactly who the bodies in the caves were. Again, a good episode, but I wish they would have placed it earlier in the season. It's not like it had secrets that would have ruined anything if we knew them a bit sooner.
As for the child Jacob appearing... yes that is DEFINITELY going to mean something, because everyone can see him so he is obviously not a typical ghost figure, such as one only Hurley would see.
Tuesday they'll get back to it. Desmond seems to already know what's going to happen, and he seems to know that Jack is "the One".
Till then...
-Everyone but Jack dies (Sun & Jun are dead, kate is on the way out).
-Jack become the new Jacob (he is still a candidate).
-Last scene of the series will be Jack standing alone on the beach. As he looks up, another plane crashes on the island.

And Sayid already said to Jack "...because you are The One", which Desmond had apparently told him at the well.

You're right, but if the writers are as good as we hope they are, it's possible that the wrap up will turn us back in on the series and focus our attention more internally for the answers to many things... as has been happening all along anyway. But that would make this a great work of art that really stands apart from other TV shows that are content with below average narratives and a tendency to treat the audience as stupid by spoon feeding them everything. I think they've established themselves as a 'cut above' already, so I think we'll be shown some things and on others we'll simply be shown the path back into the "enchanted woods" that is LOST.
