Has anyone dealt with Staples rewards Theft??

205 28 July 17, 2010 at 01:02 PM in Question
Ok, so I have been turning in ink cartridges to staples for a while now, and have received rewards since February I believe, and I have never been able to use them except one. I usually waited til the last day before they expired and then they wouldnt work when using them online or in store they wouldnt work, so i just figured i missed my chance, and would try again next month (i know, not the smartest approach, but thats a different issue).

Anyway, since I kept having non-stop problems with my rewards, I just logged onto my account to check my status on rewards.. Well apparently, EVERY single one of my rewards was redeemed in New York by somebody buying external hard drives both times. One was in Staten Island and the other in Selden... The problem here is that I am from Indiana, and have never been to New York in my life.. Now I dont know if 'New York' shows up if you buy online, or if someone guessed my rewards account number, because I keep my computer clean and scan it constantly for everything, and have never posted any information anywhere.. I cant call the rewards people til Monday to figure this out.. Do you think they will credit me with any of these rewards, or am I screwed?

So has anyone else had this happen, or did i win the unlucky lottery again? lol

After leaning the hard way, I thought eBay would be the safest. Well, it seems like they sell on eBay as well because to download the coupons they refer you to the same sites.

From then on, if I ever buy again it would be from someone who doesn't sell more than 1 or 2 (current or past listing)--may even offer shipping.

The best thing is for Staples to change the coupon codes, like adding letters and special characters, so it is much harder to guess. For a Fortune 500 company, these coupon/rewards codes are a joke.

Even buying from Ebay is no safe bet. I bought some from someone who physically mailed me the coupons. When I went to use them they were already used.

If it was a legitimate seller then the code may have been used by Sder/ccccpn customers. On two occasions I had the sellers email the coupon code and refund the shipping cost. The first was from I think a school lady and the second was someone with a store... just regular folks having extra coupons. Paid triple but peace of mind.

Yes, most likely SDer Club ripped me off as I didn't attempt to use them until they were about to expire. Don't believe seller would risk a negative rep. Strange, one would have been better off buying from the scammer.

Damn. My $100 ink rewards was stolen too. The thief bought something $299.98 on 05/25/2011 in Springfield,NJ. The thief apparently didn't even use the Rewards Customer number since it didn't apear in my purchase history, I can only see it in Ink Rewards redemption history and can't see what he bought. If he used your Rewards Customer number when redeeming, you can see what he bought.

This must be the one or one of them who stole the rewards.

He sold over 30 $100 ink rewards in couple of days.

The one who used the rewards may not be the thief.

I notice that this ebay seller uses the same wording for his listings as that found on SDer and ccccpn (posted by a user in another thread last week). One and the same scammer in all likelihood...

Compare:
-eBay:

Quote :
$100 rewards check. Rewards check can stack with all kind of coupons ( 25 off 75/100, 30 off 150). You have to use the rewards checks in 24 hours. No refund will be given after 24 hours. If you plan to use it online, please only buy two rewards check per household/address per week. Never stack multiple rewards checks online, except they have the same rewards number. The rewards check can also be used in store. One rewards check per store visiting. There is no limit of store visiting. Just a reminder, if you are going to use it in a Staples store, please make sure you verify the validity of your coupon online before your trip.
-On SDer/ccccpn per this post:

Quote :
$20 rewards check expire on 5/31/11. Rewards check can stack with all kinds of coupon. You have to use the rewards checks in 24 hours. No refund will be given after 24 hours. Rewards checks will be able to print online instantly. If you plan to use it online, please only buy two rewards check per household/address per week. Never stack multiple rewards checks online, except they have the same rewards number. The rewards check can also be use in store. One rewards check per store visiting. There is no limit of store visiting. Just a reminder, if you are going to use it in a Staples store, please make sure you verify the validity of your coupon online before your trip. Please do contact us immediately for a replacement, if the status shows "Coupon already redeemed''.

Does sound like an inside job. Maybe someone from the Rewards call center. Is that in MA I wonder...?
Now two additional people each with $100 in rewards report getting fleeced. No one with less than $100 in rewards has posted about theft. Supports the theory that this is an inside job.

It is true that for the past couple of weeks or so, more $100 ink rewards have been stolen. However, other people have lost "regular" rewards too in the recent past, as attested by several posts here. Either way, it points to someone with access to Staples IT systems.

Should have made that "recent" posts as I am aware of other rewards thefts for less than $100. Going to assume that any $20 rewards sold by SDer Club/ccccpn have been comprised.

It goes in automatically when the Rewards are used. My guess is it just hasn't updated yet.

Thanks.
I called them today and was told that Rewards dept is closed on weekends.
Will call them on Monday.
This is complete non sense on staples part if it is insider's job.
