If I lost a gift card with lots of money on it (Frown) but I have the receipt for it, is there a way to see if it has been used and if not, to have it replaced with only the receipt? Thanks in advance!

I am not trying to double post. But my DD is 4 1/2 and we are having the same problem with her pooping issues. And it has been since she has been eating more "fiber" type products. What I don't understand is that she has always had a high veggie, fruit, whole grain diet so WHY would these cereals and bars cause such an issue?? I don't let her eat cookies, soda or any other type processed foods. That is my question. What is safe to eat anymore?

Speaking of my boy, he is having some strange poop problems. (its been awhile since we mentioned poop, right?!) He took an abnormally long time to potty train, and the last mountain we had to climb was getting him to stop pooing in his pants. He would do like a little bit in his pants, and then we'd put him on the toilet and he wouldn't go. Anyway, he finally grew out of that and hasn't done it in forever. Until now. I'm thinking its the Fiber Plus cereal. I think he has just had too much fiber. Hubby thinks so, too, and that maybe he feels like he has to pass gas but when he does, it ends up being a little more than gas. Not to totally gross everyone out, but does anyone have any input/experience on this? I'm going to really tone down the fiber and get him eating bananas and stuff, but any other ideas? He said his tummy hurt a little bit. I just feel at his age, he should have a little more control than that.
I would have to go with the "he thinks it's gas" thing. I would try to either balance the fiber intake with something a little more binding in his diet, or back off of the other fiber in his diet if he's going to consume the fiber plus stuff - or just skip the fiber plus stuff altogether.

You may also want to explain to him that sometimes it feels like (and can be) gas, but that there can also be some poo in there that comes out when you pass gas. Instruct him that the best precaution is that if he has a gassy feeling or if his belly is aching, then he should try to sit on the potty before passing gas so that he doesn't make a mess in his pants. It may just be a little bit of a retraining or making him aware kind of thing. Eventually, he'll be able to recognize the feeling for what it is, or at the very least be cautious enough to take himself to the bathroom!

I have found that sometimes certain foods just do it better for some than others. For instance, I (and my youngest) can eat apples until they come out my ears - but my oldest would have the worst blow outs if she had a full apple or anything more than 4 oz. of apple juice in a day (and even that couldn't be every day). She's better now, but it's definitely one of her "get regular quick" foods. For me, I can eat almost any raw vegetable in mass quantity without any problems - yet give me a lot of high-fiber bread or iceburg lettuce in quanitity - ugh... For a long time I had problems with onions and garlic too - but I appear to be over that. *shrug* My youngest can also eat prunes like they are candy without any problems. Oldest DD - not such a good idea...

Keeping in mind that I am pretty sure he's on the very mild/high functioning end of the autism spectrum (we've never had him tested, but my mommy instinct knows he's not completely like other kids)
I'm in the same boat. My lil one is 12, & we still have these skid mark issues (sometimes HEAVY marks). This is a common issue w/ kids on the spectrum. Try some probiotics on an empty stomach (bed time is good). Also, watch to see if any specific foods seem to aggravate the issue. My big one (15) tends to get impacted, which can also leave skid marks (something HAS to get around the impaction, so you get some liquid poop going around & out).
(BTW, both are on the spectrum)
Well, I think I've have my share of poop talk for today.laugh out loud
This is nothing you've done, so don't give yourself a hard time. Tummy issues are just part of the big picture & very hard to figure out, esp if your child is not the best w/ expressive language.

Oh, thank you SO MUCH for posting this! Makes me feel tons better. My little guy is definitely not the best with expressing himself. Most of the time I have to guess what he's thinking or feeling. He has never ever told me his tummy hurts, or his head hurts, or anything hurts. So its difficult to know if he's in pain or having issues like this.

But now that you explained it like that, I will be more aware and able to help him, instead of getting frustrated with both him and myself. hug

And ank, thank you for the excellent suggestion of explaining to him. I think the thing that is niggling at the back of my brain is he starts kindergarten in a month and a half, and he can't be having these issues there! But perhaps helping him understand what's going on will help him learn to control it at least a little better than he currently is.

OK, now I'm really off to bed!!

Actually there is. On the back of all giftcards there is a number to call. Explain that you lost it and they can tell you if it's been used. If not, just fax them your receipt and they will send a new one.

Sorry for Dead Horse but wanted to add my own two cents.

The original post seems to have been deleted and this is the only snippit I could find listing some of the details from the OP's purchase (which I realize was not Phoenix)

I understand and have a knee jerk reaction to agree with the posters discussing need/want though has anyone considered it may be a gift for someone else? Or how about my Brother in law, he and his wive have 3 kids. He works 60+ hours a week and are still dirt poor and struggling (though not on assistance at the moment) his parents however, have plenty of money and instead of helping them with the occasional necessities they spend ridiculous amounts of money buying the grandkids expensive and completely unnecessary toys which usually require additional purchases such as batteries, DVDs, game cartridges etc. My BIL rarely buys those extra's for the toys but occasionally will if his budget will allow, and there is a special occasion such as a birthday.

Finally, I think we are all missing the point. The OP did purchase over $60 in food items and another $15 in clothing (hardly a want unless you live in a nudist colony Wink of course) And she ended up using less than $35 in EBT/food assistance. I believe her when she says this was an accident as she thought it was only going to pay for approx $4 if my memory serves me and had expected to pay the rest with her own money. But even if I'm wrong SO WHAT? I think it is great that someone on assistance is trying to be as savvy a shopper and stretch our taxpayer money as far as it can go. And I for one am OK with her being surprised with a small unexpected reward in how the EBT didn't "punish" her for her use of Coupons.

Can you imagine how many tax payer dollars could be saved if coupon savvy shoppers were put in charge of buying supplies for government offices?

I'm sure I would feel different if 100% of the savings had gone towards toys and if I thought she was going to toss the food without using it for her family. But I don't believe that is the case and don't see the point in treating her as if it was.

How many times have we heard on this site that Coupons are just another form of payment? And how many times have we used our overages for items in different departments at the stores? Come on people lets cut each other some slack and leave this bickering to the cashiers, LOD's and managers.

On another note. I went to a T on the other side of the state line today and they were not participating in the buy for Schick get $5 GC. I was really bummed but didn't bother to remove the 4 razors from the tranny as it was already a great deal anyways. Had just been hoping to offset a little of those ridiculous bay prices.

The Schwinn was not on sale or anything so it was $119.00 and I was able to use the Schwinn $10 Bike TQ, no beeps, it attached. It is a blue cruiser with kinda fat tires, it is a mens too, I was hoping Dh might take the kidlets for a ride or two but he said it looks like a girls bike. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) Well if I had $100 more to spend I could have gotten a mountain bike but all those were still $200!

I was wondering about Cherry too.

Pray for your boy and the docs tomorrow!! And for your nerves!!

Yes on the expireds, thankfully. I heart my stores. A lot has changed since I first began.

I agree about the wants/needs factors and I truly believe that (many/most) Americans have a very poor understanding of what a true need is and that most of us - even those of us who struggle to stretch every cent and do qualify for aid but do or don't take it as the case may be - are truly and richly blessed and don't really have a full understanding of deep poverty. I also understand your scenarios (especially with grandparents not thinking through the true/ long term expense of certain gifts!) I also don't fault the op, as I do think she was just wondering what the heck happened and asked an question to better understand. (and after spending lots of time with T receipts, sometimes it just takes asking to figure out what is going on!)

The issue *I* took is that it was publicly explained as to how/why it happened. I think that could've been put in a pm and the OP could've been encouraged to alter their post so as not to give the scammers ideas. Because in spite of the fact that there are those who are in need and using the aid - there are those who are scamming the system as much as possible also - or could be tempted down that road.

I would hate to see folks who ARE in need and ARE trying to get good deals and stretch their $$ be shut out of deals because either T or the state steps in and says "no coupons with ebt purchases." I always thought it would be neat to help teach a class on savings with coupons and stretching your family's ebt $$ as far as it would go.

When I had my physical after 2 years on the eating plan, all of my labs looked great.. despite all those people who thought I would have high cholesterol. There is a myth that all low carbers sit around and eat bacon, eggs, and fatty foods all dayWink
See - I wish people understood this - people get healthier on this diet - they can eat low fat means/healthy veggies ... they have to cut out the sugars and processed foods ... and soda is a big no no as it has the artificial sweetners which trigger that craving for sweetness and enlarge the tummy!

I do think that it depends a bit on body chemistry - I think different diets work well for different people - but this can be a very healthy and effective diet for many!

Okay - just heard about our nephew.

In non-emergency news... ugh. I am having lots of muscle cramps today - especially in my calves and my feet!! Seems like they keep wanting to cramp up. I think the baby dropped more and may have even turned head down. I felt a weird pressure low in my abdomen earlier today - almost like something plopped onto my bladder or something, and ever since then I feel like I can't sit normally. I have to sit very unladylike with my legs open! Drives me nuts!

I'll be interested to see how DD does. She is a definite carb-aholic - so breaking that will be quite interesting. DH and DD went to work out tonight. I think it's cute that DH went with her to the spin class. I never would've thought he'd do that! *laugh*
My prayers are with your poor nephew!!!! I am always so vigilent with cuts/scrapes for those very reasons!!!! I hope that he heals quickly & that is has not spread!

Lol - about the head down and sitting with legs apart ... funny how they want to be comfy even when they are still inside us Smilie I remember with lil Miss G that she would send these sharp pains thru my bladder & legs (towards the end) as I was walking and made me stop in place and catch my breath as she would stretch in all directions and hit things on the inside! LOL

I am a carb addict!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is TERRIBLE!!!! My Mum always says - "if you just stop eating you would be thin - you never saw a fat person coming out of a concentration camp" and I would say that is cause they were kept from eating and worked/tortured almost to death and she replies "yes but they are all thin" === and when I am super frustrated I reply then put me in one and I will come out thin if I come out at all! BAH! I think if your hubby and dd can do the low carb it would be beneficial to them.

Having a stable blood sugar makes me feel much betterbounce
YUP YUP YUP about the opening those sugary doors!!!!!

WHOOO HOOOO!!! You are doing so well! I gotta get back on this bandwagon --- I am struggling right now and eating TOO MUCH and TOO MUCH SUGAR and have no will power ... you should be SUPER PROUD of yourself!!!!

Thanks Ank!!!! I think of you everyday and wonder how you and Mavis are doing - I wish we lived closer so we could hang out and have some tea Smilie

Oh, that would be so much fun!!

The more research I do, the better I am feeling about the diet. It's not totally no-carb, but the focus is on less of them - and definitely no processed carbs. I'm kewl with that idea.

It's a little frustrating though - trying to figure out what to cook and not make it boring (DD's biggest complaint.)

Oooohhh... neat!! And too much fun!! I plugged in some of my old poems!

1st poem said H.G. Wells
2nd poem said Dickens
3rd said James Joyce
4th said Fennimore Cooper
5th said Stephen King - lol
oooh... 6th says Tolkien!
7th (and final for the night) says Vladimir Nabokov - and I have no clue who that is!!

I was hoping to get 2 of the same. *laugh* I guess I have borrowed styles from a zillion places. And now I am wondering why I haven't written in so long...

WTF????? Why did the mods move a Food Stamp argument into chat? That shite belongs in the podium, or better yet, it should be deleted.

Doesn't belong in here Nono
It involved the way Target applies coupons to purchase totals so I guess whomever moved it felt it was relevant to this thread.
Quote from phoenixjean1 :
OP did not willfully do this; she came onto the thread and asked a legitimate question because she was confused. I have never advocated misuse of anything, and never will. How have I "gotten on" people for misuse of coupons before? You are the one making this personal; I was simply trying to help someone understand something. Just because you know people who can't make their money work, doesn't mean someone should be vilified because they can. I lost my job six months ago, have been looking for one ever since. Not many jobs to be found in my town. Yet I could still afford to buy my boyfriend a dvd for his birthday. How? I use coupons, and watch the little money I spend. I get about $75 of food each week for about $20, thanks to coupons, and deals I find out about from the kind people on this board and other boards. So, there is proof you can buy something that is not a necessity and survive. I get deals at Target, and sometimes even make money with the giftcard deals and such.
She most certainly did do it willfully, she stated that she knew that neither her food coupon overage nor her cash item coupons fully covered either portions of her purchase but she went ahead and let them process it with her food stamps as payment for her cash items. The only incorrect part of my prior posts would be confusing your user name with that of another SDer that regularly corrects and scolds people over proper coupon usage, I do in fact apologize for that portion but you stating she did nothing wrong is advocating food stamp fraud.
You took it personally and thus got overtly defensive right off the bat. She did not make her money work, she knowingly allowed food stamps (tax payer money) to be misused to benefit her wants. The people I spoke of make their money work as much as possible, they squeeze a penny until a booger pops out of Lincoln's nose but may still have to carry some bills on a credit card or put off getting new school shoes for the kids but would be able to easily pay for those necessities if they were a few bucks lower in the tax bracket and could receive food stamps. Said people would use it as a stepping stone; having the cash from their food budget freed up to pay those bills... get ahead... and then no longer need said assistance... but that doesn't happen because people are misusing and blatantly abusing this type of aid. They see it as a big freebie that they are entitled to and make it a lifetime and even multi-generational thing, that is common place and is truly sickening.
You got up on your soapbox and acted as if I were trying to say food stamps should be abolished and anyone using them should be beaten and ostracized in the streets. When I neither said nor implied anything of the sort. If you lost your job and are not asking tax payers for a handout via public assistance... you can buy your BF whatever you want with your cash or burn twenty dollar bills for fun for all I care but when a person says their cash is in such short supply that it is either shelter and bills or food and thus must receive food stamps to feed themselves and/or their family... they owe it to the tax payers to properly allocate their cash and to not misuse or abuse food stamps, end of story.

What she allowed to happen has absolutely nothing to do with legitimate Target deals/couponing and everything to do with food stamp fraud.

The calculations you quoted were my revisions to the incomplete/incorrect math of the OP as well as Phoenix. The original totals OP arrived at for both the items and the coupons were wrong and didn't even match what she said was charged to her food stamp card. Everything the OP posted just seemed odd, it was as if she was leaving a lot out on purpose.

It would not change anything even if those items were a gift for someone, that would still be a want... not a need and still falls under food stamp fraud.

My overall points were as follows; she knew that it was misuse but let them do it anyway and that the cash items were complete frivolous nonsense that shouldn't even be on the radar of someone with so little cash flow that they need state aid. I could see someone reasoning around the misuse if it were to purchase underwear.. cold medicine... or even cleaning items but for video games, that is ridiculous.

Any hard working tax payer who regularly shops at or works at Target or any other similar store has at least once seen someone pay for their food items with food stamps while purchasing costly non-necessities such as electronics, with cash. Whether said cash was hard earned or from state aid, witnessing such things is infuriating or at the very least... annoying. It is also wrong on every level and should not be accepted on any level.

At the end of the day, tax payer money that was intended for food paid for a video game and Xbox Live Points so someone could sit around and play video games... while tons of people busted their asses to put food on the table and still went to bed hungry. That will never sit right with me no matter how people try to repackage it.
