Did you watch?

For a show on a non premium cable channel, I thought it was very good. I never read the comic, so I don't know how it compares, but I'll be watching every Sunday. pisses me off that I don't get AMC in HD though.

Ahh well then you should better by now! Talkie talkie isn't going away any time soon and there is just not enough content for bang bang bang for 42 minutes. I would recommend checking out Z-Nation. My new fave.
Iagree
Z Nation is much better, more action and less soap opera. They don't try to do the show too seriously and there might be a few more plot holes to overlook, but still more entertaining. Just last week we learn that Viagra works on zombies. Rofl2 And the show is done by the same people that did the Sharknado movies. If anyone who hasn't watched it, there's a marathon December 5 starting at 8am on Syfy channel leading up to the season finale. For some reason, it looks like they are starting with episode 2. The main things you'll miss from episode 1 are a zombie baby and why one character calls himself 10,000 (that's how many zombies he's going to kill).

BTW, if you want to punish yourself with a 4.5 season marathon of Walking Dead, mark your calendar for December 30. EEK!

An interesting point that a friend brought up to me. Wonder if anyone else has any thoughts. Noah has been talking about an Uncle that he was trying to get to. Anyone think that Uncle could be Morgan? Any possibility of a family connection between the priest, Noah and Morgan?

Yeah it feels like it's from the people that make Sharknado. For all of the sincerity, seriousness, and intensity, it also doesn't take itself as nearly as serious as TWD and has a lot of goofball B-movie moments as only viewed on the SyFy channel. Viagra zombies is a good example laugh out loud It sometimes feels like the video game, Left 4 Dead in cinema format which isn't such a bad thing.

I was talking to some friends yesterday and we just can't understand why EVERY group that Rick and his gang meet (excluding Hershel and the farm folks) are "bad" guys. Think about it, everyone they come into contact with wants to fight.

It's Crazy.

There's a lot of character development potential with the priest. He'll seriously question his faith, he'll realize that faith alone won't keep him alive and he will have to do what it takes to survive. Probably becoming a bad a** zombie killing machine.

I also think they will realize Eugene isn't totally useless. There were a couple references last episode about Eugene showing them how to do things, like the water filter. In an emergency survival situation, knowledge can be just as valuable a resource as food, water, & ammo.
Agree with the latter part but the former? laugh out loud There is no way that unstable waste of space will ever become a "bad a** zombie killing machine."

These freakin' people NEVER SHUT UP!!!! The emotional and verbal chow-chow is soooo painful to watch.

Get on with the friggin' show already or move it to a daytime hour where it can join all of the other useless soap operas!!!!! Head Bang
The best is when you waste half an hour of your life listening to two characters talking endlessly just to watch them both die 10 minutes later.

They put a lot of emphasis on the zombies getting weaker as their food supply runs dry back in the season with the prison. Every once in awhile you see zombies that can't even get up even though they don't have any noticeable damage to their bodies. I think it's only a matter of waiting it out until a majority of the zombies are too weak to be dangerous anymore and then the remaining survivors can start cleaning house and rebuilding.

I don't think it's that crazy at this point. Perhaps early on it would have been but after a year of surviving? These people are extremely loyal to one another and have seen how horrible other "surviving" humans can be. They are also ridiculously hardened and are in near permanent survival mode right now. The survivors don't trust anyone outside of their group and many have resorted to cannibalism. That's why the groups are violent but the individuals seem to be mostly good people.

I was joking because without context, it sounds like the three of them are connected because they are all black. I think the connection between Noah and Morgan will turn out to be something real but why the priest?

Initially, it started as a joke, but then it became more of a "Why not?" kind of situation. If we assume that the priest is there for a reason, what is that reason? He has been pretty useless so far. We have a character in Noah that has said he is looking for his family. The priest arguably could be that family based on what we know. The two haven't sen each other yet, that I know of. At least until they all meet up coming out of the hospital, and they don't show a reaction or them meeting before the episode ends. As soon as they see each other, we should know if they are related, no?
Just spit balling. My real hunch is that Morgan and Noah are related.

i simply don't understand those who complain about the amount of dialogue or character development in this show. in the dish network show description, the primary genre is Drama, and shows/movies noted as such tend to be talkies. this also isn't something new: thinking back to season two at the farm, there were several episodes (especially those leading up to opening the barn) that primarily consisted of talking between characters. and you don't even know about slow unless you've watched the middle seasons of Boardwalk Empire.

based on descriptions of Z Nation, a person can go there to get their fix of mindless action and zombie boners without worrying about some writer trying to explore actual human emotions or impulses other than "kill things," so i wonder why those people are still watching TWD. /rant

yeah, i'm wondering about the priest; notice he took the machete with him when he left the church this time. in The Wire, the same actor played a character who started out as an underling and developed into an assertive leader, so maybe they got him to do the same thing here? probably reading too much into casting there, but i agree there are a lot of possibilities with the character, and while he frustrates me a lot, i'm at least interested in how it turns out. by the way: loved the way the camera fixed on the Biblical reference written inside the church ("he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life") as the walkers streamed in.

i thought the same: Eugene has shown he is at least capable of killing walkers (after the bus crash), and he obviously has enough everyday knowledge to help the group at times. Abraham apparently isn't going to kill him, and they brought him back in the fire engine, so that group apparently wants to keep him. i'll be interested to see how Rick will respond when he finds out there isn't a cure.

It was a desperation move (this was explained on Talking Dead after by Emily Kinney).

Beth had gotten stronger through her time in the hospital, and wanted one more shot at being strong, realizing that Dawn was overstepping what was fair and that she should pay for it. She was going for the neck I think, but she's not exactly adept with a blade, so she missed. Either that, or her humanity took over and she couldn't make herself go for the jugular, even as mad as she was.
i found that whole Beth/Dawn sequence clunky. my ideal result would have been Beth returning one of the slaps she received early in her stay and revealing the secrets Dawn/the doctor had confided in her. that would have almost surely caused an insurrection very soon, if not in the hallway. as noted by others, when she finally did stab Dawn, the resulting shot didn't seem very natural from an angle/draw perspective. it was nice Daryl got the revenge shot, though.

i liked Beth, even with her teenage faults, and i thought it was a pretty crappy way to end her story. i also think it was ridiculous that a hallway full of armed, nervous people wouldn't just start firing after the first stabbing/shooting combo.

that's pretty much what i would expect from a post-apocalyptic landscape. think about it: say there's a cataclysmic event and we start with "good" groups and "bad" groups in a small geographic area. all will likely find a spot to call home, and all will eventually run out of resources there and be forced to explore, leading to interaction between groups.

now when a good group meets a good group, everyone is understandably suspicious since, well, that's human nature, and it's probably made worse by the heightened survival stakes resulting from no overarching system of order. even within those good groups, it just takes one Shane to create a misunderstanding or rash action to turn the suspicious groups against each other, maybe even causing them to kill each other. this would make the winning group even less trusting of strangers and maybe more willing to abuse future ones, likely moving them over to the bad category by little bits.

when a good group meets a bad group, the bad group will simply pretend to be good until they can take advantage of the good group, either wiping them out or leaving them in the same distrusting downward spiral toward bad that the losing good group above is in. the most extreme example of this so far is Terminus, but Rick's group is heading down a similar path.

of course, Hershel and his group are the exception, but it's because Rick's group found them pretty soon after the event and the farm was spared interaction with the outside world due to its relative isolation; had a bad group come upon the farm before Rick's, the outcome could have been very different. it didn't hurt that Hershel himself was supremely averse to violence and had nearly complete control over his people.

eventually, nearly all groups end up nearing the bad spectrum because all the purely good, trusting groups are dead. Shane had some very valid points.
Quote from greenbelt View quoted comment :
here we go!!!!!!!! and started out...wow..Rick
we are officially in "Rick is a bad guy" territory. that run-in with the "claimed" gang changed him, and Terminus just reinforced it. he's totally OK killing strangers at this point. look how he handled the hospital situation: it took both Daryl and Tyreese to convince him to even entertain a plan that didn't involve slitting the throats of guards. Dale would be aghast, and Tyreese seems to be the only one who retains anything close to a worldview that will keep the group from effectively becoming marauders.
