Don't you know people w/o kids know the best methods to use with kids period.. The other day I took all eight kiddos out to JcPenney's with me.. and did you know they were running around and I was attempting my best to control the ones misbehaving along w/ pushing a stroller,etc.. some old man decided to stand there, shaking his head... mind you he can see I am the only one here by myself with 8 kids.. so finally I was irritated, irked whatever the case may have been and said very loudly and clear... "MAY I HELP YOU!?!" He shook his head no and left the area...arses I tell ya!!

Quote from setsail :
I do understand! My son is improved so much over the time when he was 3-5 years old. Those years were a nightmare to me. Yet to someone in a store, he looked like he was 2 or more years older so I got the comments, the stares, the rude remarks. Like you, I offer help or try to offer a soothing remark to defuse the tension I know that parent must be feeling. Things like, oh I remember those days/ wow my son does that kind of thing too. Something to let them know someone else has been there and can empathize with them.

One of my favorite phrases is, people aren't looking at me because I'm a bad parent. They are looking at me because I am the parent of a toddler. Fits many situations.

My son is projected to be 6'6. His younger brother (nt, like night and day) will be a little shorter. He's currently 3 inches shorter than the older son was at this same age.
Awww I am sorry people have no clue what the hell it is like with each different child.. mind you I have an 8 year old angel then a 7 year old devil when I am in a store... they all act differently and no one cure covers all children!! Are you really tall or dh? We are shortys over here Wink
Quote from dreemedayze :
Believe it or not, I didn't get in on the Post-it note things.

Went to Kohl's and got tons of crap. Just need to get the 5/5 to combine.
Did you get them to combine those pesky 5 offs? HUGS!!

*sigh*

I went to Kroger and got back. It was pretty good overall. Still spent more than I planned, so I'm not sure how that happened unless some of me eq's didn't come off (which I'm suspecting is the problem). Gotta go over my receipt.

Anyway...

I think I need to spread my shopping out - 2 trips in 1 day is a bit stressful for me still.

Kind of amazing how quickly life changes.
Aww sorry babies really do throw you off your game... sorry!! It will get better soon, promise... hugs!!

Quote from setsail :
Yep me too. I've told people that exact thing in public for making comments about my child's behavior. He was lucky I didn't sock his smug face. :
I dislike people that impose their opinons on others... it is a total STFU!!
Quote from cathi4savings :
Well....since it got brought over here I'm gonna "weigh" in .

I do have children. I have not a problem with screaming children, however the ball incident that got relayed ,reminds me of the cashier at Target a little while back that Ran ino my shopping cart with one of those electric carts, pushing the shopping cart into my ribs. Left me black and blue. Not an iota or anything resembling an apology , it is not acceptable for a child to ,or an adult ,to hit another person with any object with no apology. The lack of apology on that mothers part, is part of why ,as that one woman said this is "part of life" .
It shouldn't be. We model behavior for our children and as we all know they are watching even when we don't think they are ., I have to wonder, if the girl that ran into me with that electric thing wasn't this woman's, young adult daughter. There really is no excuse for lack of simple civility. I will be quiet., now.
I agree with you common decendy yes!! It is an absolute MUST for everyone even my 2 year old... if they do something like that they know enough to say sorry!! If you were one of those people irritated about running or loud talking, it's basically get over it... but hitting or bumping into someone the person deserves an apology no matter what!! HUGS!!
Quote from setsail :
The ball to the head story is completely different from the scowling about kids making noise in stores. I've heard the grousing enough and it tires me. I'm tired of people assuming that because a child doesn't look handicapped that there isn't an issue somewhere. That the parent isn't just ignoring the child, or doesn't care, or the thinly veiled aspersions about bad parenting. People should not assume.

I know I should back away but I can't because the topic hits too close to home. Not because I think my kids are precious darlings that can do no wrong, I am the first to discipline them at home or in public and profusely apologize to everyone around. No one can tell by looking at him that my 58 inch tall 8 yr old son isn't a 10- 12 yr old acting inappropriately- his maturity level is about 4 yrs old. I can't put a sign on him that says, hey I have autism don't stare (though there are some awesome smart ass shirts that I have thought about getting!). I don't let him get away with things but there is no way a casual observer can tell that from a brief interaction in a store.

Ok, off my Soap Box Rant not directed at you Cathi, it's what I would love to say to some of the perfect people that posted. Being a child psychologist is not the same as being a parent.
I agree people don't know what you go through unless they walk a day in your shoes.. my 5 year old son is ADHD x 10... he is made to behave to a somewhat civil level but you can't tell someone that he is ADHD and not dianosed yet but believed to be ODD... so I hear ya!! HUGS!!

Quote from DealHog :
Amen. Before I had kids I knew all about how to deal with them (I had a little experience w/ neurotypical kids). Then I had boys. 2 of them. Both on the autism spectrum. Everything I ever knew about behavior was out the window. 1 reached 100 lbs in Kindergarten & was quite tall (no, he wasn't obese). So everyone thought he was much older, while in fact he was behind peers. We had some interesting times.
Now, I don't dare open my mouth, except to offer help, bc I've been there/done that. Say something rude about my kids - momma bear's gonna get ya.Evil
(FF to present - if you care to know. Both are doing quite well, almost recovered from autism. Big 'un, (6'8", 280 lbs, sophomore) wants to play college football.
The runt (6'1", 145 lbs, 7th grade) is in all advanced placement classes.)
YAY!! Your kiddos sound very lucky to have a mommy like you!! Are you tall? DH tall? Ok I am a shrimp @ 5 ft 5 inches... LMAO

Gator You can have any coffee coupons you might need for deals. I don't drink anything but K cups.

Chocolate Smarties - I saw them the other day in Publix, they were with the "ethnic/latino" candy. I remembered someone said they liked Smarties from the freezer, and I was wondering if these were the ones they were talking about.

Just popped in for a sec. Babysitter will be here soon (first time out w/o kids in months), so I can go babysit DH tonight :/
YAY!! I hope you have a great time... you deserve it!!

meeshe, before I started the middle aged shrinking laugh out loud I was a smidge under 6 ft. Now I'm 5'11.5. Yes, I count that 1/2 inch.

I had to LMAO about the tp. We were organizing the garage a little more last night and dh noticed that we have 6 or so of the 12 ct packs of Bounty. He wanted to include some in the garage sale. Blasphemy, I tell you.

Comments in stores- I was pregnant with #4, dh was deployed, my then 5 yr old ds (autism), 10 yr old dd and 8 yr old dd (Asperger's and ADHD) were in line in a grocery store. The two middle kids were tired of standing in line and kept trying to walk away. The oldest stood in line while I kept corralling them, apologizing to other customers for the noise and disruption. Some old codger made a comment about the store not being a zoo and I needed to keep my animals under control. I don't remember exactly what mama bear said, as DealHog also said, but at the end of my speech I told him to kiss my fat butt and shut the f up.

I can't figure out those darn Kohls sales.. I went on Monday, hardly anything was on sale I wanted. Went Thursday and some things were on sale.. Went today and totally different stuff.. The kcups were 9.99 today, but the selection at my Kohls is always poor. Only had 2 kinds of coffees, then some tea and hot chocolate.. Any reviews on the Caribou? I tried a caribou breakfast blend in my sample box but this one was a medium roast something.. Didn't get it..

On the kids topic.. Some people are just crazy about it.. Kids make noise, that is in their nature. Just ignore it if you want, but parents can't always control it. Yes, you can keep them from destroying a store, and tearing up things or messing with others.. but you can't keep kids from crying.. Last week when my toddler had a fit in Kohls everyone was looking at me. I decided to take her to the car and end the scene, but she screamed the entire way out of the store to the car.. Every elderly person in there just stared at meFrown

We almost ran out of tp a few weeks ago but paper towels,... never. I know it's wasteful to use paper towels but with the food allergies it's part of my phobia. nod

I often think that people don't realize that I'm NOT a single mom. It's me with any combination of the kids but dh almost never goes shopping with us.

And yes, we're all kind of tall around here. Dh is 6'1 so anytime someone makes a comment about how tall the kids are, especially as babies, I just wanted to give them a sign. laugh out loud Hello, did they think two taller than average people would have a child that is petite? Not likely.

I use paper towels like man... the reason being is that we have pets.. pets= mess= need to dispose of it.. I hate animal mess, ykwim!?! I agree all too well on people not realizing that mom's are not single when their husband's don't go shopping w/ them.. mine does not shop with me often either.. you know I love my shopping... my dh not so much!!

Aww I wish I was taller Frown I know people are dumb...

Hi All, havent been able to pop in much, been super busy at work. And I offered to work overtime to help catch up, I may do some more work later but I feel lazy. I found out that my job position isnt changing but they are adding more work to my load, most likely for the same pay.

I went to Kohls today! I only used two qs, I got a pair of Mudd jeans for $1.08 ac, and a pair of sunglasses and a headband for $1.74 ac. I was too chicken to go to the other registers and buy more stuff as it was late, and there werent many people in the store. I need to try to go again tomrrow, I need some gifts for dd bday thursday.

Happybday to your ds rachel

and on the nosey rude people butting in front, Ive told someone that if they can to better to take them lol, the person declined.
