No kidding. So, here's my theory, smile and nod at the doc and listen to your grandma -- with a few exceptions. According to my mother I used to scream at night. She got desperate and held a Tum for me to suck on. (Dad had constant heartburn, reflux, etc.) I shut right up and went to sleep. And, I have had acid reflux disease pretty much my whole life. (Of course, it wasn't called that until a few years back.) I lived on Tums, Rolaids, and baking soda for years. I LOVE my Nexium.

Bingo. I don't have a problem with kids making noise in a store as long as it isn't screaming and fit throwing. If a kid is sitting in the cart playing with his toys making truck noises or singing at the top of his lungs. I Don't Care. If the kid is screaming, bawling, and pitching a fit, take the kid to the car until he shuts up. Now, that said, I am NOT talking about a tiny little baby who has suddenly decided they need fed, changed, or picked up. It doesn't take that long to get out a bottle and insert it in the proper spot or to pick up the little squawker. Big, big different between a crying 6 month old and a screaming fit throwing 6 year old.

I have a serious problem with kids running all over hell and back. I don't want to have to watch out for little kids running all over. For one thing, if I have stuff in my cart I probably can't see your 2' tall kid that has crawled in front of me, but you can sure bet it will be MY fault when I smack into him or run over his fingers. There is no reason for kids to be running all over. I think everybody has had a kid escape, I am not talking about the occasional run away.
Quote from love2beeamom :
Last week when my toddler had a fit in Kohls everyone was looking at me. I decided to take her to the car and end the scene, but she screamed the entire way out of the store to the car.. Every elderly person in there just stared at meFrown
Yes, well, they were rude. You had a screaming kid and did what you needed to do to keep from disrupting everyone else. Thank you. I hope your little one got settled down and you got what you wanted!

I was going to ask the same thing.

The oldest stood in line while I kept corralling them, apologizing to other customers for the noise and disruption.
You were corralling and apologizing -- not acting like that was just fine behavior and not putting a stop to it.

Since everything is so far away from us, if we make the hour trip for something that he is along for, hubby is more than willing to let me run into Target (or where ever). He takes a nap in the van.

A lot of produce freezes. I'm so excited since I haven't really used the q's that much. Wish we had a Publix! *If* the stars align, Providence allows, and the kids keep their horns pushed in, I am planning to stock up on onions and green peppers and freeze that. I don't remember seeing green beans and peas (fresh) but if I do I will certainly freeze those too. And corn. Yay!
I'm going to be moving soon, so I don't want to buy & freeze. I would assume that freezing, thawing and refreezing isn't the best?

How are your stores on marking down meats? Ours only puts the $3 tq's on packs over $12, $2.00 if it's over $8, and $1.50 for anything under that. Can't seem to find a super deal on the meat lately. Frown
i have expanded grocery. i think when they get too much and/or it's not selling fast enough so that it's going to expired by sunday, they put it on a 3 day *sale* thursday, friday and sat. so i usually go thurs or friday and look on the bottom 2 shelves for yellow sale tags and really cheap prices under 2.00. i usually score big at least once/month.

2 wks ago i got 5 packs boneless, skinless chicken thighs for .99/lb. about 2 months ago i got 16pks of 80/20 ground beef for .99/lb and there was more left. and the cashier told me she got some yesterday. so obviously the supplier was acting a little crazy that wk. and b4 that i got boneless skinless chicken breast for .99/lb. oh, and b4 that i got the most beautiful pork chops i'd ever seen in my life for .99/lb. my freezer was full of free italian ice and other free stuff or i would have bought more than 2 packs. oh, the pork chops were near the top of the meat case.

basically, i always check out the expanded grocery section for yellow tags to see if there are any great deals. i usually find something about one third of the time. the other times i usually have some tq's so i'm almost never empty-handed. too bad they are doing one like tq per transaction now. i'll still go for the great meat deals but can't load up on bread and produce anymore.

Thawing and freezing isn't ideal, but it isn't going to hurt you. Fruit might be a little mushier. Things will soften and clump together.

Are you moving your freezer? If you are, your stuff should stay frozen for at least a couple days as long as no one is opening the door. Ideally, the freezer should be as full as possible. If it isn't full of food, buy a bag or two of ice or freeze cartons or jugs of water. Sealed milk jugs are nice -- no leaky water. Half gallon jugs are even better -- you can spread them out more.

Yeah, moving the freezer. Didn't even think that everything would stay frozen. Just thought we needed to empty it out since it's just my dad & me moving everything.

Not related to your post above, but I can't reply to your post regarding ACL/meniscus in retired thread! :-)

There is no need to get an MRI to see if the meniscus is torn. Your son (I think it's your son) is going to have to have ACL surgery, so the dr can just check out the meniscus when he's in there. There is no reason to have to pay for an MRI when surgery is already required!
Haven't had time to check the rest, just replying to this. Their reasoning is, that if it is just the ACL, they want to wait until Christmas so it can calm down and heal some. If it is the meniscus as well, they say they have better success to do it ASAP. I am used to a more conservative approach (wait and see) but around here, they are more 'do it now'.

good afternoon, everyone else! now, conversation catch up:

Do you know about the databases? I never use that list. For one thing, I can never find it, but the databases are so much faster and easier.
Hot Coupon World [hotcouponworld.com]
Organic Grocery Deals [organicgrocerydeals.com]
A Full Cup [afullcup.com]

i used couponmom. has always been very accurate for regional variations.

It was brewing yesterday. I kinda figure..if you don't have anything good to say, why say it. She knew it was going to start a hoot....
bunnies, my thoughts exactly! that conversation just needed to not be started. i'm in the "if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing" camp. coming onto a public thread and complaining about strangers' kids just seems to be in poor form. but maybe that's just a few of us/our upbringing.

.... There may be two diifferent models on clearance , cause the one I looked at defintely had a tilt head although the box didn't indicate that ,and did have the metal motor housing as opposed to plastic.
That is good info, and I will keep on eye on them for further reductions, that rebate if appicable will certainly help .

I think I need a gps also my garmin is 8 years old and bulky ,and the new ones have alot of nice features.

BF sales wootare coming up so I'm keeping my eyes peeled.....
cathi, if you're in the market for KA, make sure you check out whether you like tilt-head or lift bowl and read reviews on both. several people have said they found tilt head heavy to tilt back, plus there have been space considerations for some. i liked the lift bowl, but noticed the bowl is a little hard to pry out on that, so one has to be careful if there's a bunch of stuff in the bowl. pros and cons to each.
gps... if you're in the market for a smartphone, again one of those take a look and see pros and cons etc situation. most of the new smartphones come with full gps included. i know mine does and i love it because it's one less device to buy/pay for/take care of /upgrade. and around here cars get broken into all the time if they as much as see the suction cup marks on the windshield EEK! so i didn't want that bother. however the bigger display is much nicer.

Could someone please post a link to the Staples thread?

With as long as I've been here, you would think I'd know how to navigate through to find it, but my search brings up 680 topics. I just need the one friggin' thread!

Thank you!
bronc, Wave
there's no single dedicated staples thread, my friend. none. they sprout up like mushrooms in HD, though.
you have to go to hot deals and use search this forum, select in thread titles only as the option and then keyword staples. that will give you a more targeted list of threads. and then set up a deal alert for hot deals, staples, instant notification, daily PM (or email if you prefer). what that will do is send you one message a day for any staples threads that are started that day. that's the best way to keep track.

be careful with milk jugs. if the milk gets warm and goes bad, the pressure from the gas inside can cause the jug to burst, spilling rotten milk all over everything. Yuk
speaking from experience here. Mad

kallison, if you're not moving far, either use gt's idea or, if that would become too heavy for your dad and you to do (was the case for me when we were moving), get one of those styrofoam cooler things or even the insulated bags you get at supermarkets, then fill with reusable ice packs or bags of ice or frozen bottles of water and put the frozen food in there. closed, it should keep just fine in transit to the new place. if it's a long trip (2-3 days) just refresh the ice packs during the trip so it stays cold.
i've done that before and food hasn't spoiled. especially frozen produce.

Awaiting Nestle coupons that should arrive Monday for more candy deals. Big Grin

Hmm... I know ours does the same thing - marks down on Thursday for Thurs/Fri. Maybe I need to go earlier in the day - maybe all the good stuff is gone by the time I typically get there. Or maybe mine is just lame. *laugh*

Ours never has marked down produce though - which I thought is kind of odd. *shrug*

I'm sooooo excited about the bakery tq. I am going to load up on bagels - one of my favorite bread items. I can be good too - I can do 1/2 a bagel and be satisfied. I think I'll use them as my Sunday morning treats. woot I may grab a few muffins too. Might be good as an item to put in the freezer for taking to moms with newborns. I hope there's a good sale on the cheese.

I had never noticed that Archer Farms has a chocolate soy milk. I've been buying the Silk at $4 per half gallon. AF is $2.49 here and dh said it tastes closer to Nequik than the Silk chocolate milk does. yummy Monkey toddler wants to be like the big kids and drink chocolate milk.
