by the way, in case you and DH believe in homeopathy, it might be worth consulting a good homeopath. homeopathic remedies are very safe and gentle, and moreover they are extraordinarily effective when it comes to issues of the urinary system. we were raised on homeopathic remedies since infancy because of severe allergies to conventional drugs. and i turned out fine. Big Grin i can tell you first hand that the homeopathic remedies worked for me in some fairly serious situations.

at any rate will say BIG prayers for you guys tonight! hug
How would we find someone reputable? The other thing I'd worry about would be the $$ side. Ins. doesn't cover homeopathic treatments. Frown

homeopathic remedies are really just medicines you buy at a pharmacy. there are otc ones and ones that need a doc's prescription. either ways, cost is usually about 6-8 bucks a bottle, so much cheaper than western medicine.

finding someone reputable... there are a few different ways:

1. the North American Society of Homeopaths [homeopathy.org] not only has a practitioner directory online, but more importantly they have a directory of schools of homeopathic medicine. if you call one of the schools nearest to you they can tell you who the senior/good homeopaths are in your area. or you could try to consult with one of the teachers at one of those schools.

2. most large hospitals in the US have an alternative medicine center. Find a very reputable hospitable in your region (and I mean reaaaallllly reputable, on par with hospitals like Mayo Clinic, Dana Farber, or Massachusetts General Hospital) and see which homeopaths visit their center/have clearance from the hospital. That will give you some ideas, too.

3. Look up a homeopathic pharmacy in your area, and ask the homeopathic pharmacist if they know of any good homeopathic doctors.

finding a good homeopathic practitioner is a little like finding a good dentist or pediatrician or obgyn. you can go with referrals but then it may take trying to find one that is a good fit for you in terms of bedside manner, treatment approach etc.

if you PM me with info on where you are, i can help you with research by asking my super trusted homeopathic pharmacy here if the homeopath who owns/runs the place knows of any highly reputable fellow practitioners in your region.

i pray ank that your financial pressures dissolve away and that Mavis' body heals itself (and that you find an amazing homeopath should you choose to consult with one).

hug hug hug

let me know how/if I can be of any help to you and I will do my best. k?

Yeah, go to a home store like Menards, Home Depot or Lowes and buy one. The size is determined by how hard your water is and how many people live there -- water usage. We just bought the cheaper 28,000 grain size from Menards for $360 on sale. We have city water with a lot of lime and calcium. 3 people in the house but we use a LOT of water.

In our other house, that is now a rental, we have very hard well water. The first one we put in we a more expensive one from Sears, I think. It died. The last one was from Menards, it was $400 and has been there for probably 10 years. Our renter does use it so it has been working just fine all these years.

The last place we lived, we actually rented one. We never rent, we always buy, it's almost always cheaper in the long run. HA! That town had such horribly hard water that the average water softener had a 4 year life span. A local business installed and rented them for $11 a month. That was cheaper than replacing every 4 years. And yep, 4 or 5 years down the line -- it died and they had to put in a new one.
So, my advice, I suppose, is get one and put it in. Or if you can't do the plumbing yourself, hire a plumber to install it. But don't buy a $1,200 one from one of those water softener places.
Thanks for the info gt, definately need to get one. So periodically I will have to put bags of salt in it? We are on a well, our shower stall often turns pink, is that because of hard water?

on a drink break. it's going too slow!!! ima gonna be in trouble. tomorrow i have to go over to friend's house 50 minutes away to pick up tables from 2 places and make up 6 posters tomorrow. will spend all day pricing on thursday and taking over to bff's house.
Well, of course it's going slow, drinking usually hinders ones progress. Beer Wink

With all this talk about Atkins I'm thinking I may need to try it again. It is how I lost a bunch of weight about 7 years ago, I think I was on it for almost a year, thankfully I have not put it all back on but I have regained about 20 of it. I actually tried it a few months ago but after 2 weeks of being on it & not losing not one stinkin' pound I got pissed. And ate a Twinkie. And said forget it.

The pink is probably rust. Yes, you have to keep salt in them. We use the solar salt -- it's a rock salt rather than the oval pellets. It comes in 40 lb. bags and most softeners hold 4 or 5 bags. How much they use depends on how often they cycle. You just look inside and add a bag(s) as needed. That would be the part I hate -- getting the damn things from the van to the basement.

Well, this is fun. I wear bifocals. I just broke them. They are rimless so there is no patching them together with tape or solder while I order new ones. I have a pair of HUGE single vision for distance. Great tv in bed glasses but worthless for anything else. So, normal laptop distance is too far for no glasses and too close for the hoot owl glasses. The laptop is literally balanced on top of my chest.

So, yay. I am not ordering new ones without getting my eyes checked. So get appointment, order glasses. This ought to be fun few weeks.

ANK - comments in blue.. too many things I wanted to reply to within your quote!

Quote from ank220 :
I think that will be her dinner after all. *laugh* She's semi-picky today. Lunch was an apple, pepperoni, and granola bar (gotta love those free samples!)

My toddler is the same way.. Today was a half of a donut and milk for breakfast, cup of applesauce and toast for lunch, and apparantly daddy let her eat cereal for dinner

Okay... the good stuff:

Went to T and used the deli coupon (finally) on some cheese - no beeps! Free cheese sticks. Used Kraft Cheese coupon - beeped, k1'd - more free cheese sticks. Bakery q - 2 bagels - beeped. Facepalm Not valid on .99 items. Cashier decided to let me use 1 - s'ok by me... Produce items - q beeped on onion, lettuce, apples, but not on sweet potatoes, *shrug*

Please tell me what cheese sticks were beepless with the deli coupon?

Oldest DD did same thing but different produce - q beeped on grapes, lettuce, banana, but not bean sprouts. *shrug*

My produce was beepless on apples and grapes.. but beeped on green beans and squash.. that coupon is so weird!

All in all, we got 8 produce items, 6 cheese sticks, and 4 bagels. All for $2.75! Thank you sooo much!! The 2 lettuce alone without the q's would've cost 2.77 after tax!! Too bad lettuce isn't long storing. This month, though, I think we'll be eating well. Big Grin

Good job.. I didn't even think about the bagels in the case. My DS wanted bagels and I got the bag on mini bagels. They were 1.00 after coupon.. not a slick deal really.. but not too bad. I like the small ones cause they eat them as snacks and such and don't realize how many calories are packed in there. SO, did you get over 1.00 worth and it beeped, or was it less than 1.00

Now for Mavis and the not as great as expected news...

Doc thinks it is highly likely that she'll need surgery anyways. She's got hydro-nephrosis with mega ureter. Meaning her kidney is enlarged and her ureter is huge. Her kidney, on a scale of 1-4, he said is a 3. Her ureter looked like a big sausage on the ultrasound. He did say that it was great that there is no reflux of urine back into the kidney. That would mean that she would be on constant anti-biotics. Right now, he wants to monitor her and check her again in 2 mos with another ultrasound. The earliest they would do surgery is between 10-12 mos. There is still a chance that she'll not have any problems and they can leave it, but he didn't think that would end up being the case because it is so very enlarged. The deciding factors will be if she gets any infections or if it gets bigger.

Praying for little Mavis.. !0 months is a several months away and plenty of time for her to receive healing hug

My sweet DH is worried. He actually came home from work early to snuggle Mavis. I soooo heart him. I love to see him being so tender with the girls.

Sweet

t!

wave when am I gonna meet ya at target one day? I found a pretty nice cashier tonight.. wish I had known before I got in her line.

LMAO on the twinkie..

Did you get my PM?

Went to target for more free socks. After I posted the sock deal with pictures yesterday, I got so many PM's asking for the sock coupon. My darn PM box was busting at the seems.. Kinda makes ya not want to post sometimes.. I plan on picking up a few pair each trip this week.. I see more socks for Christmas gifts.
I finally found the finish quantamatic things marked down. They were still tagged 8.xx but rang at 4.24 so I grabbed 2. Found several roasts that were 7-8.00 each but had 3.00 off peelies on them. pretty good deal.
Did another round of the Motts GC deal too.. .67 a 6 pack is a good enough price for me to stock up on applesauce.
And I have been adding 1 bag of hershey kisses for .69 AC with each trip too.. I figure I will use them for holiday baking.

Went out to dinner with DH. Had a great time. Ate a little more than normal and left feeling very full. Now, I need to exercise Smilie

I get mine from amazon. the chocolate chip and the oatmeal both rock!! Rock I have my grammy hooked on them as well. they sell them in walgreens as well. I don't know the price in WAGS, but amazon has had them for 10.20 subscribe and save price with free shipping for a box of 12. Not cheap, but I've never found anything like them for satisfying my sweet tooth and hunger for at least a couple of hours like these. HTH!
