Maybe when they load up this bus to go visit Jaime at Target, they could take us on a teaching trip to every Rite Aid along the way. Hmm maybe CVS too. I think we need a BIG travel behind the bus.

...What I desperately need is a knife set. We have been married 16 yrs and we have Knives given to us when we got married and they are finally wearing down.

Does anyone have any recomendations? Brand or type that you swear by?

We are such knife virgins, and are clueless about what to look for in a knife and afraid to commit to any block set without knowing more info.
julie i got my knife block set at pfaltzgraff a couple of years ago. they have big sales every few months... it was a 200 dollar set, that i got for 50-something bucks shipped. mine's cuisinart or calphalon (can't remember which one, i get them confused. i think calphalon), all wood handles and the wood block, plus it came with a sharpening blade. works great.

the premier knives designed to last a lifetime are wusthof. they're also expensive. but you can find deals on ebay and on closeouts at cooking sites/williams-sonoma/crate and barrel.
i don't need the big name. i need dependability and sharpness. mine cut, and cut well and so i am happy. Big Grin

Oh, I agree that most OTC stuff can be purchased in a generic or store brand for a lot less and I buy them too for most things. The Mucinex just isn't one of them. You can't just double the pills with it. The difference between the off brands and the Mucinex brand is that Mucinex is a time release formula. The off brand works fine, if you don't mind taking it every 4 hours as opposed to every 12.

Every twelve hours is enough more convenient that I am willing to pay a little more for it over the knock off brand.
Yeah, several people told me the same thing.. I haven't taken it, but my DH has.. Last time we bought one of the store brands it didn't work at all. The MD told him next time to make sure he got the name brand Mucinex DM.

Hope everyone has had a great day.. I have just been relaxing all day. I was planning a trip to target since cashier selection on Sunday afternoon is usually plentiful.. But, I think I may need a break for awhile. Other than stopping in for my free socks, produce and maybe a rug, I am gonna try to take a little T break..
I took a little nap earlier, just finished some odd and end cleaning, and got the toddler to bed. Now, I am gonna have a little me time and watch some CSI.

You don't have to spend near that to get a decent set. Mine are Farberware and I have no idea where I bought them or what I paid, but I know it was no where near that much.

Just look at the bottoms and make sure they have some thickness to them. I notice some say "aluminum core base" and I think that may be what mine are. The bottoms have a round circle about 1/2" thick. I HATE copper bottom pans. Other people like them, but I not one of them.

The heavy bottom does two thing -- it keeps them from being tipsy and it distributes the heat more evenly and keeps things from burning.

You can always start replacing pans one at a time too.
$220 (what I paid through Amazon at the time) is a really, really low price for a higher-end set of SS pans. The bottoms being thick is not the only thing to look for and that is what you will get if you want to pay less. I wanted something that was tri-ply (like All-Clad is) and that, in addition to the only the bottoms being thick, had the thickness that went up the sides for more even heating and better cooking. I looked at a LOT of sets that were lower price and these were about the only thing I found for this price that had the higher-end features. It took me awhile to settle on the higher-priced ones but they are definitely better than the basic....I had one stand-alone SS piece that was lower-end and though it worked just OK these are definitely nicer and cook foods more evenly. But ever since I started SD'ing why is it that I always want to go for the cheapest thing first?! LMAO

I like this one [homedepot.com]too. It has the double oven but that middle burner is not the big oval one. I think it's a low heat for simmering and not sticking stuff burner though. It's $808 and free shipping. I think I really like it because I miss my double ovens plus the oven in the damn Jenn air is really little.
I think that is the one my aunt just got when she redid her kitchen -- it is VERY nice!!

I have had bronchitis for a month and a half and half of the time it was due to a virus and the other part was due to infection. The mucus cough was the worst. I was using (free thanks to wags) Robitussin which has Guafenesin and it was thinning the mucous off but not helping with the cough. You can double the dose which increases the strength (to match Mucinex brand) but as bad as the bronchitis was with my asthma the 400 mg was a decent strength dosage and I only would take one pill and it would last 6-8 hrs sometimes longer. *snip*
Ooooooo, thanks for reminding me how well the Robi works, have plenty left from last year. I swear about 10 min. or so after taking the liquid stuff I was getting all of that mucous up...gross I know but it worked great!

Aww Ank - she is beautiful! What a sweet smile! She is getting so big hug

And your toddler looks like such an angel with Mavis Smilie

I miss having a baby.. I was looking at pics today from when my toddler was just a few weeks old and I was kissing her.. I miss those squishy cheeks, the baby smell, and those little grunting noises.. And the way they stretch those little arms out and curl their back.. babies are the sweetest gift Wink

i am here.

pics would be nice.

may i just vent for a moment, please? i've spent the last half hour cleaning the rotten milk smelling car... which now smells of vinegar plus a whiff of rotten milk mixed with shout and wet ones. :yuck: still, i'll take vinegar over the other smell combos, so thanks ank for that great tip!
now there's baking soda over all the vinegar. and of course after i do that i am informed the car is needed at 6am. ummm, which means i have to be up at 5 am to vacuum the insides so it is ready for use. so much for rest on a holiday morning. Head Bang

and all that car cleaning of course only came after I had to clean out the bottom shelves of the fridge wiping up spilt soup and milk. for the 9th time in 8 days.

that.is.all.

She adores her "best-friend-sister-Mavis..."

Now, how great she'll feel towards her when she's crawling around and swiping her big sister's toys - well, we'll see what happens!
