there's tons and tons and tons of stuff in toddler sizes. much more than in the 6m - 18m sizes. i was looking for a friend's rapidly growing 4.5 month old and that was a little challenging but even then i managed to find plenty. and reach helps. as would toweling.
dreeme, have a good day at work!
kallison, umm yeah, that's the kind of pancakes we have here. The Kellogg's Cinnabon ones are really yummy.
ank, would you believe that that is how monkey let me know he was ready for bed? He would say he wanted boobies.
Ok on the private parts talk, my kids call it by filipino names:
Teetee is penis
Pooky is vagina (there is also another word but I can never remember it)
Suesue is breasts
They know the correct terms but refer to it in filipino language, or in dd case not at all, she's very shy about that whole situation.
As for those who don't like the short name for Richard, that is dh name and all his brothers call him D.
ick.....as a term of endearment
And those pancakes are so cool! I have no artistic not baking talent. No one gets a pancake from me unless it's coming from the freezer
when you move to FL, if you have a Trader Joe's near you, look for their great multigrain pancake mix. or actually at T, the archer farm mixes are great. they have seasonal flavors. there's a pumpkin one now. there was a hazelnut chocolate (ohhhhhhh to die for) couple of christmases ago.
all you have to do is whisk in eggs and milk according to proportions in package.
then put a heavy pan on medium heat, add a little bit of butter to pan and let melt.
spoon out one serving spoon of batter for each pancake into little circles around the pan. usually about 3 or 4 circles fit at a time.
as soon as the pancake edges curl up and the top bubbles and looks dry-ish, about 4-5 mins, flip over the pancake with a spatula. the other side will brown in 1-2 mins. move onto a plate, and do the next set of 4. etc.
these smaller sized pancakes are easier to flip and cook and best of all they help with healthy portion sizes. plus psychologically you feel like you've eaten a lot when you eat 6-8 of em.
try it! it's super easy! and if you still suck at it, you can toss the half-cooked burned crumbling pancakes at me across the miles. just warn me so i'll remember to duck.
ps.glad you liked my late-night ramblings. save it! read it! and love thyself!

GG, would quote but I'm in bed and on my phone. Will try pancakes one day- I need new pans desperately. I'm still using the cheapo ones from college that I probably paid $20 for the set. Catch 22 that i don't cook because I don't have the pans, but I don't buy the pans because I don't cook.
My 8 yr old is on a pancake kick and thinks IHOP is the greatest place ever invented. If we do happen to make pancakes, I make extra to freeze for him to have for a few days. He likes the Kellogg's frozen more so than the box mix frozen.
I bought one of those pancake popper type pans and was looking for recipes for it. Some included sparkling water. Any advice on pancake batter?
myluvjustice, I've heard those before. I remember my mom using some of those phrases (we lived in Hawaii when I was little).

correct and came in quite handy later .

in college i once improvised a pancake recipe and it became my guiding recipe. i took a recipe for blueberry muffins from a better homes and garden guide to baking book and thinned it out with additional milk and far less sugar, and just like that i had blueberry pancake batter. it turned out great - all fluffy and moist. how did it taste? i'd tell you except that i didn't get to taste a single one of the 80 or so small pancakes i made. they were gobbled up by roommates and their boyfriends as quickly as they came off the pan.
and that was true everytime i made this recipe. which eventually turned out to be about twice a month for a couple of years.
so i'm guessing they were good cos these were body conscious, picky, foodie eaters. i'd love to taste my pancakes though.

it is a catch 22, kind of, but i'll tell you if the chicken egg conundrum was based on cooking and pans it would be easy to solve. what comes first? good pans.
no seriously. i had old non-stick pans. things were scratched etc. food would overcook, burn, undercook. things didn't taste right and needed so much babysitting it was a pain to cook. and i found that depressing because i love fresh, well-made healthy yummy food.
then i threw out those toxic pans and bought a stainless set (and those hard anodized ones that are now questionable thanks to all i've learned from some here). at any rate, cooking is a breeze now. things don't burn. everything cooks evenly and much faster.
and getting good results gets me cooking more. it has made my cooking so much more efficient.
one good way to get some pans - ebay, smartbargains, overstock dot com. people sell the stainless steel ones for half or a third of the price on the bay. big discounts on the other two. don't buy a whole set at once since funds are tight and you aren't sure how much you'll cook, plus your parents probably have some pans already. look for the most versatile sizes - so get one small pot, one large. and then one small skillet, one medium. that should do you just fine for starters.
when you get to buying a whole set - macys.
time to sleep people! how does one drown out the loud drumming of rain and the relentless swoosh of cars on waterlogged roads?
sigh. i should've done some drinking tonight like mama2cole. and shenanigans too.

Haven't used it yet. Came with no recipes or any real directions except to insert desired filling into partially cooked batter. Oh I just realized it has non-stick surfaces as well. Good thing it won't get used often.
And the pumpkin rambling is because every time I open the pantry, I see the stack of pumpkin I have been building just in case there is another shortage this year.
more cook pan advice- keep an eye on JCPenney. I bought a really nice stainless steel set- no non-stick! lol- 15 years ago and it's what I still use. Original price for 7 piece set was $200, bought it for $40. I also bought a Calphalon set last year at Target for 75% off (second guessing that after reading here lately) but only use the stockpot, and then only for noodles (needed a larger stockpot).
