time for some beano. that stuff supposedly really works.

and, by the way did you guys know that some people have a similar reaction to broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower and related veggies? beano supposedly works for that, too.

speaking of stinky things, somehow a mosquito has made its way into the house. it has bitten me on my leg, foot, back, arm and now on my butt. Angry

Oh no! The resident 3 year old here broke my oldest dd's CD/radio yesterday. Those are a lot cheaper to replace (second one in 4 months he has broken, she was reminded to keep her door locked).

I think my reaction is actually to the avocados... I think I've ate more avocados in the past 2 weeks than I have in the past 3 years.

I should probably be going to bed. Baby has fallen asleep.

Kind of addicted to watching the WSOP on tv though.

I hate skeeters with Ninja attacks.

oh hon! hug

when you say "broke" what happened to the laptop? is the screen smashed? or is it just not turning on, or is it flickering?

if the laptop is not a year old, it is still under warranty. if the screen is smashed, you'll get a discounted price to replace it usually. if it doesn't power on, or is flickering etc, that can happen with a loose connection inside. so just call and tell them the problem the computer is suddenly having (without details of toddler antics) and the repairs would be under warranty.

also worth looking whether you guys bought any damage protection when you bought the laptop. if you did, smashed screen would be covered.

We have a computer protection rider on our home insurance. Covers any accidental breakage or damage, including water damage. Well worth the $50 a year.

I would guess that meeshe's 3 yr old is like mine, he sure does know how to open the lid, start Firefox, and then he yells for someone to play (trains, Naruto, Caillou) on the computer for him.

They grow up around the technology, they quickly learn to use it.

If it was dropped while it was on (and now won't boot up), it would likely be the hard drive - boot sector could be damaged. Granted we're all tossing stuff out here. Anyway, if that is the case, you can often replace the hard drive and then re-image the system (hopefully you have a full system backup or at least a system disk from when the laptop was purchased).

Thanks Ank, I will check it out!

Okay, a few weeks ago you guys were all chatty about the cookware and teflon.. So, now I am searching for new pans. I bought me a lodge cast iron skillet from amazon and it should be arriving tomorrow. Now, I want the stainless steel. The Tfal ones that are being clearanced are only 30% here.
Now, what was the story with the hard anodized? I saw several of those single pieces being marked down as well. Even at 50% they weren't cheap. Regular 60-70.00 each piece and now they were 30-35.00 range. But, were you guys saying those aren't good to buy either??
i have the calphalon commercial hard anodized 10pc set from costco about 10 yrs ago. regular, not the nonstick. i have one skillet from the nonstick version. you can see the inside looks like any other nonstick pan, has that dark grey slightly shiny finish inside. the regular hard anodized looks and feels exactly the same inside and outside. i don't think target sells any hard anodized that is not nonstick.

people like anodized aluminum b/c

1- it is 30% harder than stainless steel so doesn't get scratched up as easily.
2- aluminum conducts heat better than stainless steel so heats faster and stays hotter. stainless steel does not conduct as well so can get hot spots and thin pans can burn food.

there are 2 problems w/ the regular hard anodized.

1- they can supposedly rarely de-anodize if you cook acidic food in them. the dark grey anodized layer gets eaten away by the acid in the food and the pan starts getting lighter and lighter in color. of course that happened to one of my saucepans that i always cooked pasta sauce in. calphalon has come out w/ *calphalon one* which is anodized all the way thru instead of a micron thin layer on top of regular aluminum. the end result is that you just can't see if it's being eaten away by acidic food.

2- the flatter pans can eventually get warped so it doesn't sit flat on the stove. that happened to my 3qt saute pan. it rocks on the stove b/c the bottom bulges out a bit.

i have some sitram stainless steel pieces from b4 i bought this set and overall, less headache.

imho, i would go w/ a good quality stainless steel set. you do get what you pay for unless you get a good deal.

i have been slowly replacing the anodized aluminum w/ stainless steel. b/c what is the point of having 2 sets of pots in pans in case you cook some sort of acidic food. and heavy ss won't warp.
