that is incredibly witty. i'm so impressed!

come join us over in the diet support thread! i'll be back after new yrs. no point rehashing the leftovers from xmas i eat daily right now.

Ok friends - I need your opinion. I was planning to do a nice 1/2 day shopping marathon on Saturday, because according to how T typically marks down, that's when Christmas should go 90%. Weeeellll... if you read deals today you saw that almost no one had 75% today (and like half the posters were from Jax, WTF is up with that MOT2?). Anywho - should I still plan to go on Sat, or do you think I should wait and go on Sunday? I really am just looking for a reason to make DH watch the kids so I can wander around a few stores looking for some hidden jems. I'm not really hunting for anything specific. Thoughts?
are you going to be shopping pink dot dollar spot clearance? then i would go saturday. it has always gone 75% off on saturday for the last 2 yrs except for the wk after july 4th this yr. that time it never went below 50% and got salvaged monday b4 the store opened. the rest of july 4th merchandise dribbled out of the store for a month.

it's sounding rather ominous if they didn't hit 75% off today. maybe b/c they were closed last sat is pushing them back a day? usually it's 75% for 2 days, 90% on the 7th day after the holiday for 2 days, then inf.

i remember 2 yrs ago shopping on new yrs eve and scoring bigtime on burts bees and bath poufs. i also got stopped by a cop for making a right on red out of that plaza but he was nice and i just got off w/ a warning. but i swear i do not remember a sign at that particular plaza which i rarely go to.

so i'm thinking if dollar spot doesn't go 75% off and xmas doesn't go 90% off on saturday then it might be like july 4th and not go at all.

I remember reading a year or two ago about the new HE washers and someone saying you could use regular detergent? I'm getting an HE set, but have a stockpile of regular detergent.
don't do it. i had the first maytag front loader that put the company out of business. they said you could use regular tide or wisk in that one. bff also had the same machine. the buildup from soapsuds ruined the ball bearings so her dh took the machine totally apart to replace them and the outside of the drum was totally caked w/ gross brown gook, also from soap suds buildup, according to his appliance repairman friend. her dh had to create his own tool to get the ball bearings unit out of the the machine, and it was a beotch to put the machine back together.

it never worked the same again after that and she ended up buying a new set last black friday. washing machine is fine but she thinks the dryer doesn't work as well as her old one which she insisted on replacing b/c she had to have a matching set. she regrets that now. she also now is totally fanatical, even more than me b/c her set still cost lots of moolah, about using HE detergent when b4 she used to scoff at me ( i had replaced my machine the yr b4 her). i'm trying to use up my warehouse sized bottle of woolite but i've given up on that.

when you use HE detergent there are basically no suds at all, maybe a stray bubble here or there. i also don't use fabric softener anymore. i use vinegar instead. i think the wax buildup leads to mold growing in the machine and makes it stink. then they get you to clean it monthly w/ affresh which is like 6.xx a shot. i just use a cup of bleach every other month as recommended and leave the door open as much as possible.

the front loaders these days use even less water than the ones from 10 yrs ago. they now depend more upon the mechanical action of the clothes being picked up and dropped (like being beaten on rocks) so the wash cycles are generally longer. regular hot washes for sheets and towels are 90minutes now. permanent press is around 50 minutes. definitely longer than the old machine.

imho, it's not worth trying to save a few bucks using up your stockpile and possibly messing up your $600-1000 machine. just sell it or give it away. HE detergent is now the same price as regular and can be found everywhere.

I don't suppose you are lucky enough to be on one of the cheap generics that you can get for $4/mo or $10/3mos.? Other than that, call around to the pharmacies in your area and ask what the price is. I would probably make two rounds of calls. First by asking the price without insurance. Second with your insurance if you have it. Also, see if it's cheaper if you buy several months at a time. Often it is, there is basically a per pill charge along with a filling fee.
It's DH's nexium RX that has me the most worried. The rest of the stuff pretty much qualifies for the $4/mo pricing.

Quote from bunnies46 :
Ank..are you going to have any prescription coverage at all?
I know that there are 'pharmacy' cards out there. These are specifically for those who do not have insurance. Just a thought.
We'll have RX coverage, but it will be a new plan that we have to pay a certain amount (deductible) for before it kicks in the coverage on. I am having a brain block and can't remember how much it is exactly, but it's gonna be a good amount. I had thought DH would have 1 more refill through our current (mail order) plan, but he's not due for his refill until Jan 4th. Mad talk about bad planning there. *sigh*

I wish I knew exactly how much it would cost us for his first refill - but I guess there's just a few more days until we find out anyways. He may be downing my prevacid for a bit if it's too expensive. Unfortunately, the only thing that works okay is the Nexium - everything else doesn't seem to help him unless he's taking multiples per day.

I don't think I could do that many at a time. Yikes.

I went shopping today and got 2 carts of stuff - BUT I got 3 12 pks of soda and 10 2 liters - that was a cart by itself! (and for some reason 10 2liters doesn't seem as much as, say... 10 tubes of paste or something.)

I need to get back to it too - decided that I want to lose 30 lbs. I went to the gym today. I think I nearly died. DD talked me into a step class. I tell you, I have taken a gazillion dance classes - and all kinds (tap, jazz, modern, ballet...) I have never been so darned confused, out of tempo, and totally off/wrong in my life.

I think my arm pain is neck related. Yay. There is a spot at the nape of my neck that if I press it, I have no pain. It's like an instant relief. The main problem is that I have to keep pressure on to keep relief. It really stinks to have an aging body. (I know... I'm not telling ya'll anything new - well, except for maybe Kallison!!)

My toddler has been a riot. She has taken to talking about herself in third person/story form. I hear "she's swinging and eating a banana..." Or "once upon a time there was a sister Eleanore..." etc... It's pretty stinkin' cute.

I do have a nightstand locker filled with more types of vibrators that you could even imagine but come on. 1) we live in a tiny split level house - 2100 sq ft, our 4 kids are only sleeping 7 feet away from us while the oldest is directly below us. 2) Who said he could go to the nudie bar BY HIMSELF! anyway. 3) It isn't even chick porn, it is full on for men. and last and most importantly #4) How dare YOU, my husband tarnish something I love, nearly as dear as my kin, with pure SMUT.

Of course I have not said any of this to him yet and he is lucky I haven't shoved it UP his ass...yet. The more I think about the more I get pissed - You know they say "It is the thought that counts" well I dont even want to know what his thought was behind this gem of a hoilday gift.

can you tell I'm angry. Cool

I always think it is a little bit different when you are traveling quite a ways too and don't have stores really close. She is in the immediate area and goes nearly every day. No, she isn't but my shelves never have 100 of anything! and I would love the ability to shelf clear 100 of anything - not that I would have need too, just a desire.
Quote from gt6mk31 :
I don't usually want huge amounts of something even if it is free. But, quantity is sometimes a question I have. How many is too many, is it ok to take them all, what if "all" is only 5? For most stores -- anything other than KMart of HyVee -- I have to travel more than 100 miles round trip. A little over an hour there another hour back. So, I don't get to Target, etc. often and I'm sure not getting there 2 or 3 times a week. So when I go, it usually one large trip and it's not always all coupon stuff which does help so that my out of pocket isn't $0.12 and calling even more attention to it.

But every once in a while there is an item that I want a large quantity of and I always feel guilty. Air Wick candles is one example -- I had 18 or so coupons, I used them all in one trip. There were still some left on the shelf and in back but I still felt kind of greedy. I ended up with another 20 of those coupons and used those all at once (at a different store, we were traveling) but I know they had at least another 2 cases of each in back (after what I took). (No, it wasn't your store TM4D)
That is my plight too. I usually buy 4 -10 papers in a given week, we are a family of 7 plus 2 in-laws that I provide for. A reasonable quantity to ME is the amount me group can feasibly consume B4 expiration date. And then there are the MM that go into YS piles. Once I finally found the clearance Airwick candles I took ALL that I had Qs for in one trip. Another feeling I have is that if it is on clearance than they - the store - longer what the inventory of it so I am free to get rid of it for them.

Yes, I truly think that is what me meant to do but the problem lies in the fact that after 8 years HE doesn't know better than that.

g'morning all you meanies. sun is shining brightly!

fyi- the reason why the nurse didn't go all nuts is b/c she is shopping at my supermarket, shoprite. i think she gave her loyalty card last for dramatic effect b/c normally the cashiers ask for that first, then any coupons and rainchecks which have to be scanned first w/ the items they pertain to.

notice that she obviously did not buy any produce or raw meat at all...there are virtually no coupons for those items. shoprite can be more expensive for those 2 depts so sometimes i'll go to the local *farmers market* ie produce store or local asian market for cheaper but not quite as good quality fruits and veggies. summertime i try to go to the real farmers market for really good quality produce but that's definitely a special trip.

she is right that you can get frozen or canned veggies for free but usually that is w/ ip's b/c they are usually higher value and only b/c shoprite does double coupons but only up to 3 or 4 of each coupon, depending on the owner's rules. so you cannot go all crazy and buy hundreds of items. well you could, but if your coupon isn't doubling and you aren't getting the price plus sale price, it could be very expensive.

also, when you use your shoprite price plus card, the loyalty price typically only applies to only 4 of each variety and any additional quantities will scan for a higher price....so no shelf clearing by individuals. so you could buy 4 of each variety of pasta at the cheaper price BUT only 3-4 coupons will double so you can get them for free.

also some shoprites won't accept ip's for free items, only x.xx amts. some shoprites are not accepting smartsource ip's b/c they don't print their website address on the q's. shelves do get cleared but it's thru shear volume of many individuals buying. if you are not buying much, sometimes you can do a second transaction, but cashiers will not let you do huge multiple transactions back to back.

you can go out and in again but it's been reported in the shoprite thread that some cashiers and stores will limit you to 2 transactions per day for really hot items.

the bottom line is that at shoprite normally you can only get up to 4 of each sale item free, no matter how crazy a coupon shopper you are. there is no way to buy hundreds of boxes of pasta in one transaction for free w/ coupon. most other supermarkets in the area have similar limits so we do not have any of those shelf clearers or wack jobs in the northeast unless they want to spend all their waking hours and tons of gas driving hundreds of miles to other town locations. only one shoprite per town when they have one. heard the owners are 50/50 on opening one in my town so right now i drive 20 miles roundtrip to the nearest store.

there was one guy *toooldnow* or something like that over at hcw who was retired and spent all his time buying hundreds of cans of campbells gravy and such to donate but i haven't seen him in a couple yrs.

I have got to do 10 missed MQ's on foil today. Is this going to be a problem where they are only allowed to do 1 MQ at a time?

Apparently TLC will re-air the extreme couponers special a few times over the next few days.

I didn't see it, but at least it reminded me to donate my stuff today to the food bank and to Christmas Charities (that doesn't take food).

just foolin'! i was gonna put *j/k* but i wanted to get it posted right after my last post b4 anybody else posted so i clicked submit as fast as possible.

i would just apologize first and say sorry, i know you can only do one at a time. i left my coupons at home but i didn't want to miss out on a good deal.

i did it for 2 coupons b4 i went away and they apologized to me. like my previous post, in my area, it's not really worth it to have too many of any one coupon. no towers of pasta or patios made of jello boxes around here. everybody around here has to go to the supermarket every wk or 2 b/c no supertargets. going to target is extra like going to the dept store or trs, boo!

i fell asleep each segment b/c still jetlagged, but from what i could tell, nobody missed much. it was all preplanned and set up. for the first and last ones, it was the biggest transactions they had ever done.

we could all do the same thing if we ordered coupons, talked to the store mgrs and hired a camera crew like that j'aime to follow us around the store.
