l2b....I am with you, I'd probably head straight for the crockpot laugh out loud I put those London Broil cuts I get at T. cheap in the crockpot all the time even though I don't think that's what you're 'supposed' to do with them Smilie I am definitely not a pro in this area but I've heard of this 'salting' technique that is supposed to help make them tender, similar to this: http://www.ehow.com/how_4539892_m...ender.html

But I've also heard to let them sit longer than 10-15 min. too.

Meant to mention this earlier, especially for those of you low carbing. Target has Tyson Grilled and Ready meat strips on sale for $2.50 and there is $1 coupon (01-02-11 SS). They are 6 oz. packages. There are a few different ones -- strips and cubes, beef and chicken.

I was going to say not a great way to buy meat, but actually that's under $4.50/lb. and with the price of meat lately... Anyway, handy to have around to put in salads, etc. for the dieters.

I searched and searched for an expiration on them and finally found where it said 5 days after purchasing. That's helpful. I put them in the freezer and figured I would just get it out as I use it.

We got a little snow last night, around an inch, I think. Winds are really getting nasty. In town, visibility is down to about a block. Yuck. Don't know what it's like out of town.
Does the sale end today?? Someone in deals posted there is a TQ for this as well. 1.00 off. If so, I would love to stock up!

Where are these located gt? In the frozen?

I haven't seen them in my super target either.. Did see them in a regular T, but they definitely aren't with the nuts at the ST.. forgot to check by the register.. I love those small packs too..

I am gonna try to get some trail mix at publix.. but, I really just like the nuts in it, not all the sweet stuff. I end up picking things out laugh out loud

Slept in this morning.. did a few things around the house.. Now, I am gathering my stuff for a shopping trip tonight.. Hopefully alone Smilie

Cooking question... I am not a wonderful cook, I will admit. I am very basic.. My DH has been happy with it for 20 years Wink Anyway, I can never make good steaks at home.. I really only eat them if we go out.. Mine always seem tough and don't have much flavor.. It is too darn cold to go out and grill them. I have 2 packs I got from target when they were marked down. They are cheaper cuts of meat, which I know makes them a little tougher too.. Can someone give me some ideas about how to cook them inside where they aren't so tough.. I am a crockpot lover and in the past, I have just taken to cheap cuts and put them in the crockpot on low all day until they are falling apart and add a little gravy and serve it over rice..
Marinating them is always helpful. I like to marinate mine over night.

We always grill or broil our steaks. Cept the other night I put them on the griddle. It was a huge mess, but they did come out very tender. Again I believe because I marinated them. I have no idea about putting them in a crock pot. Now I am curious how they would turn out.

or maybe....you should eat morningstar products to get your daily veggies .
I'll take a look at the library and see if they have it. I have a hunch those kind of recipes won't work. In order to keep them low -- the whole point of eating the nasty things -- you can't really do much with them. Some seasoning, sauce, or cheese but you can't bake them into muffins or anything like that.

I know Morning Star is vegetarian stuff. Isn't it mostly fake meat? Most meat has no carbs so it's unlimited anyway. And I don't know this, but I have a hunch the MS stuff would have fillers and binders that add carbs.

cold milk ..... broccolini..... cauliflower - if you can eat that, I made mashed cauliflower for thanksgiving.
Aww shoot, get yourself a b(*)(*)b job and perk 'em up.

Nexium isn't technically an antiacid. It is a proton pump inhibitor. It doesn't kill the acid, it stops it from being produced to begin with. Before I started taking it -- and still occasionally -- I drank milk for relief a lot. It does help.

I will have to look for the broccolini and give it a try. I do the mashed cauliflower too. Have you ever made them like a loaded baked? Yummy. I used bacon bits or pieces - In the jar but real bacon, not Bacos. Crumpled bacon is good too, I just have a couple dozen jars and it's easy... A little sour cream and/or cheese.

Did you see my new AFC tattle-phone Avi
It is really cold here in IA today.
I saw that and thought it was cute.
Our high today is supposed to be 8 with chill factors around zero. Again.

We had a new thing happen last night. The phone rang and it was a recorded message telling us that all roads in the entire county were closed due to the blizzard. That if you opted to travel and had problems emergency services was not responding.

Our roads have closed before and they have pulled plows and emergency services -- that's not new. But we have never gotten a call before.

Honestly, a big part of it is the meat. You can ruin good steaks but you can't make fake steaks really good. I have bought T-Bones and Strip steaks at Target and every time they have been very good.

Do you have an electric grill, griddle, or skillet? I'd use that if you do, otherwise, a skillet on the stove. Salt and pepper to taste. Preheat your skillet. I used high on my indoor grill, 375 on a griddle. Butter your cooking surface. Plop you steak on there. Don't keep turning them. You want to turn it once.

For really little steaks -- like mock tender, cook 3 - 4
Medium size -- 8 oz. strip steak cook about 8 minutes

pick up the steak, rebutter your surface, plop it down on the other side and cook for about the same time again. If you want it really rare, cut the cooking time back a little.

The quickest way to make a steak tough and nasty is to overcook it.

Don't know when the sale ends. Crap, I wish I would have known about the TQ -- if it really is a TQ and not a MQ printed from Target. (Just checked - There are 3 on the website and they are the same 3 that were in the inserts. I didn't print it, but I'm guessing it's MQ)

They are in the refrigerated section between the raw meat and lunch meat.

I actually bought a steak today (markdown). First time I've bought a steak in at least 3 years. Threw in into Dales for a few minutes and then onto the George Foreman Grill. 3 minutes later, it was nice and rare. I let it rest while I cooked some onions and green peppers on the grill, then sliced it thin. Lo-carb (3 net) tortillas and it was lunch!

Still have more than half left over, so I guess I'll be doing this again sometime soon. Kinda needed cheese and sour cream, but I tried it without it the first go round.

Sorry guys I went to bed LOL....I never know if I am 'supposed' to post those links here or not and don't wanna get warned again so I just don't laugh out loud Name of the thread is: Question About Buying Large Quantities

Teehee I'm surprised her best friend has been involved showing her support Teehee
Okay. I found it. My personal opinion is that she is on the up & up. It is pretty obvious that she has never bought in a huge quanity before - because her original post was asking how to do that. She wanted to spend 2000 coupons over time and wanted to break it down to smaller amounts at two commissaries, and possibly other stores - probably to make it more manageable - but wanted to know if she should call ahead and let the stores know she would be purchasing large amounts of the same product.

With that said, I believe she has the intent to use coupons that produce overage - get her groceries free or at low cost - and donate the excess product that she had to buy to get the overage to the food bank.

If she were going to start reselling, I think there would be better products to start with than boxes of pasta.

She ran across a coupon that is printable (i.e. free), unlimited, and produces overage at the commissary.

I am not sure why she set a goal of 2000, as she can merely print them and use them, and print some more, and use them.

But she set a goal of 2000 (maybe basing that on that is how many she would have to use to produce the overage she needed for groceries this month - or stocking up) - but still had the intent to break it down to multiple transactions - and wanted to know if she should notify the store of her intent to purchase in bulk - or just go to the store and buy them.

Seemed legit to me. Dontknow

Sorry, they're MQ. I just right clicked on them to see the properties, and they said Target, which is usually a TQ. My bad. Got all excited and everything.

i don't think so. if they can let somebody over in deals use a topless line drawing for an avatar, you should be able to use punctuation for a screenname.

kallison is making meatballs with spinach in them tonite as a way to sneak in more veggies for her dad.

why don't you get the recipe from her? Evil

you must live in a small town. mine is classified as semi-rural. my town has just switched to email alerts. when i went to the neighborhood watch meeting, the police officer explained the auto-dialer only used one phone line and it would have to wait after each voicemail message was done to leave a message. it would take 16 hrs to dial every resident to leave an urgent message laugh out loud!

I am so much like you in that.

Meat:
For some reason I like the side dishes better than the meat. It might have something to do with growing up on a farm - where steak, roast, etc. was a daily thing. Fish sticks were always a treat. Smilie

But as to rare - I remember my dad saying, "I want to make sure that thing is dead before you bring it out to me."

Of course, we had our meat custom butchered and never needed a steak knife. Cut it with a fork....

On cheese Yahoo! I am a cheese junkie! When I get to the cheese aisle, I am half done with my grocery shopping.

I remember getting a cheese and onion dish at a buffet once. I took the first bite and was debating whether I liked it - and my husband said "Is it too much cheese."

I quickly corrected him - "There is NO such thing as too much cheese!!!"
