I've been looking into light therapy.

I believe he is also currently studying psychology. Lets here his say.
Paint is MIA. You do realize he is serving our country, right? Maybe you should PM him.

Yes I was out both days....everyday. Cloudy both days...sorry to ruin your theory. It is sunny sometimes but there are not alot of people that like to hang out in snow, single digit temp for too long.
You live in California right? Different story....think outside your box.
I deserve a break after class and work.

Cloudy and no sun at all due to planetary alignment (like in alaska) are different things.
Even more so, even incandescent lightbulbs can mimic small amounts of sunlight. Florescent not so much.

Op's post dont even indicate any past of any depression during winter time or even seeking therapy.

I pose a question to OP. How do you know you have SAD?

I gave him/her advice of using the full spectrum lamp. I wasn't going to ask him/her every detail.

I'm aware that he is in the Army but that doesn't mean he's overseas.
A few of my friends are in various branches of the military while in school. They stay in school in the states.

alright?

And for the record all i said was "Often depression due to weight gain is a reason for S.A.D being diagnosed during the winter months."

I wasn't saying anything about it being the reason in this case.

Actually, weight gain is usually due to the depression caused from S.A.D...people get depressed, they eat, they gain weight...doesn't take a degree to figure that out..Rofl2

And if people got depressed all year long, it wouldn't be "Seasonal" now would it? laugh out loud

It scares me that you are someday going to be a Dr.Facepalm Thank god you're no where near me..laugh out loud

I have nothing of substance to add, I just think it's funny that the abbreviation is SAD.

The majority of Americans are Vit D deficient. My doc put me on 4000 iu's and there has been a huge change in my mood and energy level. We get Vit D from the sun so when there's less sun (winter) it effects our energy/mood. Start with some vitamins first. Much cheaper than a sun lamp.
Iagree My doctor told me to take vitamin D, especially during the winter months and I hadn't even said anything about being depressed or tired. She recommends it to all her patients since we don't get enough sunlight during the winter months.

Quote from Autumn :
I've read that spending 15 minutes in full sun can give you your daily dose of Vitamin D. Pretty cool if that's true.

Anyway I've never been affected by this but I've read many places that sun lamps (or grow lamps like someone else said...a lot cheaper) help a lot.
A 12 year old in the UK was recently diagnosed with the early stages of rickets even though she lived in one of the sunniest places in the UK. Turns out the mother had been a little too zealous in applying a high SPF sunblock which kept the girl from absorbing enough sunlight to produce a sufficient amount of vitamin D. So it's not just your mood and sleep that suffers when you don't get enough sunlight.

She's not the only case either, in one town alone they had 20 cases per year of rickets. The doctors say most cases are due to children spending too much time indoors playing video games and using the computer.

So the nearly 70 percent of Americans who are overweight are usually because they are depressed?

Jeez. its an epidemic of depression.

Where is the proof that 70 percent of America is over weight?

You really should get your obsession with over weight people checked out. It could be turning into a phobia. nod

Are you going to treat your patients like assholes if you become a doctor or will you be dropping that habit?

Hey, depression hurts. . .and obesity is not all due to depression, but there are plenty of folks that are depressed because of weight
