I've been looking into light therapy.

The majority of Americans are Vit D deficient. My doc put me on 4000 iu's and there has been a huge change in my mood and energy level. We get Vit D from the sun so when there's less sun (winter) it effects our energy/mood. Start with some vitamins first. Much cheaper than a sun lamp.
I've read that spending 15 minutes in full sun can give you your daily dose of Vitamin D. Pretty cool if that's true.

Anyway I've never been affected by this but I've read many places that sun lamps (or grow lamps like someone else said...a lot cheaper) help a lot.

Huh Better check your DSM.....Mr. I'm going to be a doctor someday.
Im very much aware of SAD being a real diagnosis but TRUE SAD is often found in people who go for long periods of time without any actual sunlight.

i.e people in the Arctic or certain parts of Alaska.

OP lives in NYC according to location.

all i said is that it is often diagnosed as a result of depression due to weight gain. OP is that the case?

Its not very often to find a true case of SAD in everyday people.

I'm glad you took the time and researched that to give an intellectual answer. Also, remember NY has a very short summer.

I think his studies focus on Psych....wow. That's what I have my degree in and none of my professors EVER alluded to a documented diagnosis like that.
I'm Psychobio.

I focus on both aspects.

My abnormal psych professor alluded to SAD in the same way most psychiatrists allude to ADD. Its over diagnosed, true circumstances of both are not that common.

What the hell are you going on about. Because i was gone for a bit of time you think i have to go and research this shit?

The time i took was spent in class and working on my research.

And what the hell does that mean you get a short summer?

Did you go outside today?
Was there any sun?
Did you go out yesterday?
Was there any sun?

Unless the answer to both of those is yes, no, yes and no, respectively dont give me that bullshit about NYC being a dark and gloomy place.

I'm not going to argue about what my professors said....what yours said. Check your DSM again.
If you say it's not common, that does not mean OP is not suffering from it so why do you discount it?

Like i said, Its often over diagnosed.
Unless OP spends all day inside a dark basement with no light besides a computer monitor its most likely something else causing the depression and not SAD.

Why do you discount the fact that i may know a bit more about this than you?

Where is PAINT?
I believe he is also currently studying psychology. Lets here his say.

Yes I was out both days....everyday. Cloudy both days...sorry to ruin your theory. It is sunny sometimes but there are not alot of people that like to hang out in snow, single digit temp for too long.
You live in California right? Different story....think outside your box.

I did want one of those light lamps, but they seem gimmicky to me..nod
