It may depend on the city. From what I recall, they had fallen into the exotic/dangerous wild animals (in the same boat as tigers, chimps, etc.) that are illegal or require a permit, but I think they were working to get that changed... at least in NYC.

I don't condone this by any means, but some people paint their hives like chimneys, vents, or some other nondescript protrusion to disguise them on the tops of buildings in cities.

bees are dying left and right. we laugh now, but the cost of Haagen Daz and other sweets that rely on bee pollination may significantly be driven up due to their mass deaths.
