So I caught a mouse.....

39,439 5,562 January 31, 2011 at 05:30 AM in Rant
Saw a mouse scampering around my garage so I got some glue traps. A little bit of peanut butter and within 45 mins I caught the sucker. His hind legs were stuck to the trap and he was bodyboarding around with his front legs. I took the trap and tossed it in the trash.

So I wake up later in the night by my dogs barking. I go down to the garage to check it out and lo and behold one of his buddies was trying a jail break and couldn't get out of the trash can (one of those rubbermaid round trash cans)! As soon as I lifted the top he took off. Mouse #1 was still in the bottom (fresh bag) twitching around. I left another trap (pack of 4!) with some more PB in the same spot.

30 minutes later I hear a "pop" sound which most likely came from the fireplace, but I go downstairs to check it out anyway. The trap I just put out 30 minutes prior is GONE but mouse #1 is still hanging out in the trash. I checked around a bit but couldn't find mouse #2 (he couldn't have gone far, stuck to the trap).

Fast forward to this morning. Still no mouse #2. Mouse #1 made a jailbreak - the trap is still in the trash but no mouse!

It's all out war now.... put down the second 2 traps - let's see if I catch anything! Hopefully my idiot dogs don't get stuck in the traps.

I am against killing the mouse ...but leaving him on bottom of the garbage to starve to death seems far worst than killing him outright

I'm very fortunate we have a few pair of owls living in the trees in our neighborhood. They keep the rodent population under control, very well, together with the cats who visit frequently.

I am not against killing mice, but I am against doing it in that fashion!

As quick and painless as possible.. no need for the poor guy to suffer anymore..

OMG I can't tell if that is a fake mouse on a string or a real one Cold either way it's sick! lol Kimber! Wave

It used to bother me thinking of how to get rid of them and killing them, the poisen and the traps, it all just seems kinda cruel. But after getting them in the attic and listening to them chew on the beams and scamper around (keeping us awake all night) and who knows what wiring that they chew on up there keeping us up all night thinking of the damamge and electrical fire it could cause. Also finding they got into the cupboards and poo/piss all over and chew into our food and their nasty germs, I don't really care how they die, they just need to die and not be in our house. Hopefully quick and painless but I just want them gone!

DH wasn't sure which method would work best so he got the poisen pellets, old school traps, and those glue things. They all got rid of the mice, the glue was the worst because he still had to kill them (didn't ask how) but within a week or so they seemed to be gone.

When we replaced the ceiling fan there were chew marks on the wires on the attic side so DH replaced those wires. Stinking mice!

I am so glad we have never had them in the house we are in now.

My wife said "why didn't you just throw it in the woods?"
To which I replied "because it's PLASTIC"
which she then retorted "you mean you can't remove the mouse"
and I quipped "that would kind of defeat the purpose..."

nothing. I don't like mice in my house. I don't care if they stay in my shed so long as they don't eat things like wires and belts (mower), but screw with my house and they are toast. Last fall, one of the little pricks decided to munch on wires going into my AC compressor. Thankfully they only toasted the relay ($30 repair), but if they had toasted the compressor that would have been a big $$ job and all out warfare.

Not to mention the germs and disease. This has been an insane year for mice infestations, they are so bad in my city, I've even seen them running down a city street in broad daylight.

You should put several layers of newspaper under the traps and when you catch them again just smash them with a shovel or something, you have to kill them. These ones that got away though, they are probably not going to go on the glue again and they might teach their other mice buddies/kids not to, you need more methods of mouse destruction now.

Cut off Mouse #1's head and put it on a stick. You gotta send a message.
