Blarg that sucks. Maybe he's getting sick? My kids cry really easily over stupid crap when they are about to get sick.
Nope. This is his standard reaction. He's a teensie bit of a perfectionist. Don't know where he gets that. Whistling However, I have never behaved that way in public. So embarrassing.

I'm 38 and I still have it in some aspects. Comes from my parents; second place was not good enough. Sometimes first place wasn't good enough. I remember getting 95% in a class and being told I could have done better since I didn't get 100%.

Disappointment in not being #1 is one thing. Having a full-blown meltdown and saying the trophy is junk because "it's not even real gold" is something completely different. Facepalm It was horrific. It's like he's got no disappointment filter. I'm sure lots of boys were sad their car didn't come in first. They held it together and still managed to have a good time.

I refused to comfort him while he was crying, too. He did really well. I am not going to encourage his craptastic behavior.

AM, not sure what to tell you. I think I'd just quietly tell him that's not how we behave, and have a talk with him later.

It's a beautiful day. The birds are singing, the sun is shining, and it's almost 60. Big Grin

Did both. LT's namesake is a shrink. I'm calling him for advice, too. It's ridiculous. We're also going to institute "Gratitude and Good Sports" at dinner. Everyone has to say what they are grateful for from that day and how they were a good sport or a good friend that day. Will it help? Who knows. I'm at my wit's end with the ungrateful little jerk. Annoyed

I went to Sephora today. I got talked out of my Ouidad shampoo and into Phyto. Now I want to go shower so I can wash my hair! Girly BT was with me and didn't say a word about the extremely flamboyant gentleman who helped me. Coverlaugh I was very proud of his restraint.

Facepalm How do I teach my kid to be a gracious loser? Dude took 3rd in the Pinewood Derby Tiger Cub division, and cried like a little punk. So mortified. Doh All those racers and he's in the top 3!! He should be happy! He was the ONLY child who cried tonight.

Blowup

Best advice I could offer is to reshape his thinking on competition and who he is competing against.

His chief competitor should be himself and the goal should be to always do his best, and strive to improve against himself and his own results.

How was his performance against his past results? What did he do to improve on those? What might he do in the future to improve over this past performance?

The best way to sell it might be to tell him that's what professional competitors do in the major arenas like athletics or intellectual competitions.

Tell your sister to find time to run to the restroom often enough to wash the germs away when she's responsible for watching 20+ kids all day. I wash when I can, but I'll take the risk of using hand sanitizer over nothing at all. laugh out loud

Kid wipes his nose with his hand and then grabs my hand. I'm going for the sanitizer. If someone else wants to wait hours until they can go to the restroom, they're more than welcome to do that. Stick Out Tongue
Every classroom should have a sink in it! Classrooms are great big petri dishes!

AM Comfort sorry about this unpleasant stage BT is going though. Where's Connie when you need the 'beat him' advice? Roll
