Christina Aguilera messes up the National Anthem lyrics at the Superbowl

12,104 277 February 6, 2011 at 05:51 PM in Sad (2)
Does anyone else think she looked a little drunk/high? She definitely looked a little off.

Linky [radaronline.com]

"The first big goof of the Super Bowl was not committed by the Green Bay Packers or Pittsburgh Steelers. No, credit the first mistake to Christina Aguilera who botched the lyrics to the national anthem!

Sure the players were nervous as the success of an entire season came down to 60 minutes of football. But Aguilera recently stated she's been singing the national anthem since she was a little girl – so no one expected her to goof!

The singer's mistake happened on the fourth line, which should have been: "O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?" Instead, Christina sang: "What so proudly we (garbled) at the twilight's last gleaming."

Believe it, everyone, because it will live forever on video!"

I wasn't even using the literal definition. I'm just trying to separate their performance persona from the actual person. Britney IMO is not particularly different from what we see on stage or in the tabloids. But I think Christina is different from what we see on stage, case in point being that we hardly ever see her in the tabloids.
Tabloids?

You read tabloids?

Just for one freaking song, sing it right or STFU.

I remember, it was perfect.

ahh whatever. everyone can make fun of her...the truth is she will go home to her mansion and a $40million bank account while those who choose to make fun will go back to their 9-5 job making $10/hr.

doesnt matter how bad she screwed up she still wins and everyone else loses. thats all.
May be true but she got all that by being a professional at singing or whatever so yeah... she should have known the lyrics!
Quote from Thrifteh :
nod Or Rosanne Barr? I mean come on people just sing the song how it was intended. LMAO
You just had to mention that, ugh! Now I can hear her voice, but at least she knew the words.

Yeah, and it is not like she had a whole concert or anything, it was one song, one short song! I have sang in front of people before a few times Embarrassment pretty sure I won't do it again but you better believe I made sure I knew every single word.

What else is there to do when you're on line at BJs or Costco? I can only play Angry Birds for so long.

My point is that the "professional" should have been able to properly sing a short, relatively simple song without farking it up. In terms of what she's supposed to be able to do, it's a pretty big professional mistake.

Not as big a mistake as the Black Eyed Peas, uh, actually performing, but still a damn big one.
So any singer that makes a mistake is not a professional? Can you name a singer that's never made a mistake?

Did I say that? laugh out loud I'm not saying she doesn't make mistakes, every one does. No, it's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. I just like to hear out national anthem sung correctly.
Seriously Landers, how many Lounge threads in all your years here have you read that are actually a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Did you forget where you are? laugh out loud

Of course we all would. Just like we'd rather not see anyone ever make any kind of mistake. Nobody wants to see a mistake. But when it happens, you have to just understand that it happens sometimes.

pretty sad that she can't remember the lyrics for what is basically an eight-line song. if you're nervous, get a teleprompter or something, but when a few hundred million people are watching, you might want to make sure you get it right.

it would be hilarious if in thirty years, whenever someone brings up her name, all they'll remember is that she botches the lyrics for the national anthem at a super bowl.
That's what I'm talking about. If I was thought there was even a 0.0001% I would forget the words when I was singing in front of a hundred million people I would ask for a teleprompter. I also found it funny that in the article I linked in the OP Christina Aguilera said something like "oh I've sung this song 1000 times, I'm not worried at all" and then she messed it up. laugh out loud

I agree with that, she should've had an earpiece in. You never forget the lines when you're singing along as opposed to carrying the whole tune and remembering all the lyrics, and it's just easier. Anyone that's ever sung along to the radio and then tried to go Karaoke without staring at the screen knows this.

She botched a short simple song. She could have asked for a teleprompter if she was doing it live, as it's a fairly important song. However, she just herp-derped her way through it. It was lazy, shoddy, and unprofessional.

How did she 'herp derp' her way through it. She made one mistake, recovered and sang the rest just fine. It was not an indication of unpreparedness, it was just a mistake. People just need to get over it. Again, doctors make mistakes in surgery, you don't think that's important? Importance doesn't make it any easier to avoid mistakes.

....did you hear the rest of the song? It was farking awful. Nails on a chalkboard while chewing on tinfoil would have been more pleasant.

You're out of your mind, the song sounded fine aside from the gaffe. I think we're getting to the underlying issue, you just don't like her and/or her singing.

Underlying issue? laugh out loud Shit, I'll put it right out there: She's an ugly, slutty bitch who can't sing.

Many would argue that you're a blind, hearing impaired hack who couldn't identify singing talent if it slapped you in the face. I don't think I'm going out on a limb in assuming that you're not a record producer.
