Macy's is running a background check on my 6 year old child, is that legal?

1,739 1,234 February 9, 2011 at 09:19 AM in Chat
So this past christmas my 6 year old was hurt at macy's when a display shelf came crashing down.

Today is the 1st time they contacted me.

The wanted to know about a car accident we had 3 months ago.

How the hell do they know my 6 year old was in a car accident unless they ran a background check.

Any ideas?

And no trolls, I'm not looking for legal advice, I'm looking for the database that Macy's used to check on my child.

Thanks!

something sound fishy in this story.. you can't go sue everytime you kid falls so either your kid very clumsy or he/she was playing with the display and the shit fell. Sorry but people like you are just looking for a quick buck and that's really sad that you sue for stupid shit when nothing serious happened to your kid.

Look at how many times juvie records gets leaked by courts, police and a host of other privacy protecting gov't agencies......

Give me a break, if you got enough money resources and people, there is nothing off-records
I'm talking about medical records. No medical office/facility is going to just freely give it out to any stranger. Because, they don't want to get sued. Now, you can have a shady employee who may be willing if the price is right. But, we're not talking about a famous athlete's or Hollywood star's records here that can fetch A LOT of money. We're talking about an average person.

If you don't believe it, then why don't you try calling your family member's doctor. Ask if they'll give it to you....a relative. They'll say no to you too.

I don't think OP was talking about her kids medical record but more like accident reports. Big companies must have a way of keeping track of accidents in their location. I know when I worked in the GAP a long time ago, you had to file a report regardless of what the customer said just in case.

Regarding filing claims for stuff...

I was in a waiting room at my wife's Dr once. They had a Keurig machine and I made coffee. Well I accidentally spilled it on my arm. It burned a bit so after I went to the restroom and washed it off (got on my shirt too), I asked the desk if they had a cold compress (it's a Dr's office after all!) Well they gave me the compress but also I had to fill out a form logging the injury. I wasn't writhing in pain, but they needed to cover their ass.

too many people nowadays try to cash in on retailers. There are numerous stories about how people fake accidents and stuff in food to extort companies. I don't blame them for keeping strict control over accident reporting.

who's freely going to give it out.... it can always be leaked.... and how are you going to prove that it was someone at the facility that leaked it... Sometimes people throw all kind of info in the trash or tell other people about... Heck some even post on facebook and stuff..

I don't think Macy is going to show a offical copy of anything cause they know the law, but all they need to do is tell you or hint at something and that's enough to scare the shit out of most people... Like this case with the OP

The McDonalds manager was fired because the lettuce washer didn't do his job (damn Nagin), then he applied to be the Macy's manager, and while working as the Macy's manager got into a car accident with you last month.

Because a kid fell down? I can understand if there was an injury or an open wound, but most fast food joints wouldn't even notice if a kid fell down.
Iagree
My kid fell at Rite Aid because he was acting foolish. They all went Bigeye and I said he was fine, told him to get up and stop playing around (he really was fine, no crying or anything, so I wasn't being mean!). That was the end of it. No names, no reports, no anything.
