He is doing well. Still waiting for court to happen. Keeps getting put off. Oh well. He will be losing his drivers liscense for 3 months in a few weeks but that is not too big of a deal (yet). His GF got a job so that is good. He should be starting work at the workshop for handicapped soon. Things are going in the right direction for now. fingers crossed that it will keep up.
Happy to hear that DS is doing well right now, I hope that continues for you. GF getting a job is great news! woot

Well if you have seen my FB tonight, you know how my night went. If not, it was a lil something like this: went to the movies (gnomeo and juliet, it was cute), came home and cooked dinner, ate dinner, choked on a piece of inhaled corn, peed all over myself saving my own damn life, provided much entertainment to the family (as far as I can tell by the huge amount of laughter I got....), and then went and changed into PJ's. Sadwalk Fun times huh?!?
Sorry to hear about the crappy evening. Comfort So happy you were able to save yourself though!

Good Morning! My neighbors and I formed a posse and went to kill the stupid Groundhog. An early spring indeed.! We got clobbered with 9 inches of snow on top of ice! Roads were and still are nasty. We are having deep fried groundhog and are still trying to figure out what wine goes with groundhog. Last time I believe some little rodent from Pennsylvania!
Time to rise and shine and dig some snowhearthug

Morning! We have Dish Network and have never had Directv so I can't compare, but I do believe each has a referral program so if you decide to sign up post on here and someone can send you a referral link. Gets you and them a discount of some sort.

We have directv and the only problem that I have ever had is that snow sometimes gets on the satellite and we have to take a broom and swish it off. Directv does have a referral program which is $10 off for you and the referrer for a period of time and it does work because we did it with chris. Also, we were able to get free movie channels for 6 months but I don't know if that is still going on.

Pregnancy Update
My thyroid is getting better but my doctor wants me to see and endocrinologist because they are at a loss on how to get it right. I have only really had it under control once in my life and that was because I had a great acupuncturist in Austin. I was going to acupuncture here and thought it would help and then had my highest TSH number ever!! I don't know if it is because I got pregnant during that time and I will talk to the doctor about it. I may need to find a different acupuncturist but there is a acupuncture school here so there are way too many people to choose from and find someone good.
Other than that I have started feeling much better.

We got a crib with a changing table and dresser off craigslist for $50 and they delivered it to us! My DD agreed to get rid of her huge bunk bed and we are working on getting a sleeping solution for her but in reality she sleeps with me and I don't see that changing anytime soon. All the rooms in our old house are tiny so I am struggling to make a plan where everything will fit.

Thank you for the information, I just di a live chat with both companies and the person I spoke to on Directv was much nicer did treat me as though I was stupid on the Dish network live chat if I could have reached through the computer I probably would have smacked the person for making me feel stupid, but I will not mak my desicion based on that I will let others chime in with their experiance and then go from there.

How many channels to you both have (or package) cost will be a bit of a factor

We have had all 3...cable was not my favorite, but I almost went back to it in Jan...great intro price and would have saved us a bunch.

Direct TV is who we have now...we never have issues with the snow...sometimes in a lot of rain it goes out. Channels are more than we need and only watch a few, but of course, we need the next step up from basic to get what we want. No movie channels...love the DVR. We have 4 boxes one for the living room, our room and one for each of the kids. I think they have something new now that you don't need it in everyroom or something. Would love DVR for my bedroom which I think is an option now as well. We have 2 dished on our roof for this service for some reason.

Dish Network-was fine, but a pain to work with. Customer service was not good and they didn't give a hoot about our concerns of price or new equipment so we went to Direct.

Moral of the story...we have been with direct for many years...I called them and said that I was looking at changing to cable (2 different times) and they sent me to retention and knocked a whole bunch off our bill with no extended contract both times. They said just to call back when the offer goes off and they will see what they can do next year!! If you are happy with your cable and don't want to go through the hassle, call them and tell them you are thinking about going to Direct etc and see if they will give you a better deal. I have since did this with my internet and our phone and got better deals...they want to keep you as a customer...if not, change to save money.

I have Direct TV through Verizon and have tv, internet and phone in one bill. Verizon has a program with FIOS for $99 a month if FIOS is in your area. I pay more because I don't have FIOS yet. Calling Verizon is another way to check. I have had issues with snow on the dish once or twice a years but you can reach mine with a broom and it is easi;ly corrected.

If you have AT and T, here ius another combo to check out....

Quote
"$10/month off AT&T / Direct TV by combining bills
AT&T is raising their DSL prices by $5 in March 2011
Call AT&T retention and got new customer prices for their Pro Direct (no phone line) DSL for $29.95 (reguarly $40/month). I was able to combine my AT&T DSL and Direct TV bill to save addtional $10 per month. This should work for all packages.

So now I have Direct TV Select (120 channels) retention/unadvertised package with HD & DVR for $51.99/month and AT&T Pro Direct DSL (3Mbps) for $19.95/month for a grand total of $74.94 per month."

We have Direct TV. I would look at the packages and see which has the channels you want most for what money. We have looked at Dish but I would have to give up some chanels I like and watch or go with a bigger package. Direct TV has been good about replacing equipment and such. They are the ones that gave me such trouble a while back because the workmen wouldn't listen to me when I said what was wrong with it. Finally I got the top workman that listened and fixed what was really wrong. I wouldn't see that as a regular problem for people though. Part of the problem was DH wouldn't believe me either.
As for the snow, we don't have that problem. I think if you have it on the side of the house it will do that quicker. We have ours on the roof. We have it on 2 TVs and have one dish.

Yes, the referal went very smoothly. Each of you get $10 off a month for 10 months. DH even noticed the $10 off the bill and asked about it. I said it was for a referal. He asked who and I said a lady online. I figure it helped him understand a little. Even though he looked at me very oddly and asked how I referred someone online. laugh out loud

The code FSPREZDAY (snapfish) does work! I had to pay for something to get it to work though. So you get 50 free prints so I added one more and the coupon worked.

Ohh all, if you didn't see about the jean deal at T, you should check it out. Easy version: $5 TQ off any womens jeans and lots of jeans marked down to 75% off making them $4.98 or $6.24 Whee Whee No beeps from the q's and the ones that were $4.98 became $0.00 on the receipt so no tax paid either! VERY slick deal IMHO!

Few things. First, have one of use refer you and you can save I think around $100 and we also get $100.
2nd: Dish Network is a bit cheaper and has more features in their hardware. For instance, they have one receiver that works as a sling box, so you can watch your recorded shows over the net from a computer or phone. But on the phone, you have to pay for the program.
3rd. Directv has only one satellite, but I believe you need two for Dish Network.
4th. Directv is the only one that has the NFL Sunday ticket, but you can get the Red Zone Channel from Cable, Dish or Dtv.
5th. Both Dish and Dtv allow for you to record a program on a DVR and watch it in any room where you have a receiver.
6th. Dish Network allows, for a charge, for you to connect an external hard drive to your receiver and extend the amount of programming you can record.
7th. Directv has a ton of HD programming and 3D programming. I'm not so sure about Dish, but if you are a sports fan, Dtv has tennis, golf, and other stuff like that.
8th. Not sure about dish, but you can get on demand programming via the internet, but it has to be a wired connection.

9th. I believe still over free HD for life which is awesome because you save 10 bucks per month.

I'm not sure about the rest, but I will say that Dtv has EXCEPTIONAL customer service. After a year, they sent me free starz programming, and when you are out of contract, it is awesome because you can call and threaten to quit and they will give you stuff. For instance, for 12 months I get 30 bucks off my bill.

The rain will occasionally cut out service, but it takes a pretty hard rain to do so. Ditto with snow. It's not that awful, and considering the money we save over cable, it is tolerable.
