I haven't noticed anything that seems to trigger it - though it is worse when I'm tired - or maybe more noticeable?? No cycle yet, so I don't know if it's hormonal at all. I am thinking that maybe it could be kidney/bladder related. I've still had days where I've noticed blood in my urine, but every time they've tested me it's come back neg for an infection - but that's been a good 2 months now since the last test. I got annoyed and didn't go back to the doc. I do sometimes feel pressure down low - kind of like cramps or something, but not quite. I am congested right now - just started with a cold late yesterday, and it is definitely worse today from the post nasal drip. Frown I also have some dizziness/light-headedness going on. I don't know... All I see is $$ $$ $$ when I think about it! UGH. New year, new deductible/copays and all that fun stuff. *sigh*
Hope you feel better soon, it is hard being sick with little kids @homehug

Grits are dried, ground up corn kernels basically.

Well... they get cooked and made into a porridge like dish. You can make them savory (which is probably the typical/favored southern way) or sweet. You can also make them on the thick side, put them in a loaf pan and refrigerated, then unmold, slice and fry...

ank... the post nasal drip could be making you nauseous especially if you've had it for awhile.
which means you could also be allergic to something in the air in your home and the nausea and sinusitis would be triggered with that.
generally vertigo/dizziness/lightheadness can be caused by:

ear infections
allergies that sometimes mess up the balance center in your inner ear
hormonal imbalances that cause changes in pressure

also, you really should get them to do an abdominal ultrasound atleast if you are feeling lower abdomen pressure and have nausea and have occasional blood in urine. that's really important to check out.

i know what you mean about medical bills, BUT the longer you ignore it the more expensive it can get, and knowledge is power, and an ounce of prevention and all that cliched stuff. so go have it checked out sweetie!

p.s. are you dehydrated? drinking enough water? nausea, dizziness, exhaustion, all can be triggered by dehydration. a sinus infection/cold will generally leave you even more dehydrated. as will the heating in the house in winters. something to be cognizant of. drink up, girlie!

kay.... thanks for the goat tip! goat's hard to find around here. would lamb do? i suspect since you're talking about stock from the bones, it's more about the marrow... and in that case either one should work for nutrient content.

at any rate, we're all out of meat at home. just some organic cold cuts from applegate ( heart those) and some hot dogs left.

for those of you that do swagbucks, they now have all the food network recipe show videos on sb tv. i love barefoot contessa's recipes - simple, flavorful, elegant. so i've been watching them for points and adding to my grocery list/meal planner these past several days Coverlaugh

upcoming week we shall have - chicken piccata, asian salmon, spinach gratin to name just a few of her recipes. yummy

I will definitely get checked out. The cold just started yesterday, so I don't know about what's going on before that. And you are right - waiting could make it worse - especially if it's something that could be easily nipped in the bud.

How do you make a doctor do something? It seems like I go to the doc, they look at me, shrug and say it's probably a virus or something that will pass, and then send me on my way 99% of the time. I am not the kind of person that goes to the doc every other week, I'm not on meds or asking for meds all the time, etc... but it seems like they just don't want to do anything for me. Maybe I need to be more of a complainer or something. I don't know. Bah. Doctors...

I don't *think* I'm dehydrated, but I'll up my liquid intake and see what happens. Who knows, maybe it's that simple!

Just thought I'd share a post from my DH's aunt regarding grandma cuz I thought it was kind of sweet:

Mom wasn't very active today. She could open her eyes for maybe 5 or 10 seconds at a time. The hugs and kisses mostly went one way, but she nodded a lot when someone talked to her so we're confident she heard everything going on. Father David from St. Augustine administered the last rites. I'm reading my daddy's corny love letters to her from 1945. They make her smile.

I could eat a couple gallons of this a week.

hugs right back at you sweetie.
i am really liking this new meal plan business. it takes the stress out of the week and makes sure everything we buy gets used and ensures a lot of variety. i have a dryeraseboard on the fridge (got for free from staples). we write down all the meals on it. so the tribe gets to vote and say you know don't feel like chicken piccata tonight, but can we do the shrimp scampi today? no problem! we make it, and erase it off the board. when the board gets down to 2 lines or so of planned meals, it's time to shop!! laugh out loud

how to get docs to listen...
1. good docs don't need manipulating. they listen and hear even what you don't say, they hone in to your concerns AND they are proactive. so for one thing you might need to find a better doc. i have found that if you find one that practices family medicine, where parents come in with kids etc, they tend to be more attentive, because they're trained to think as caretakers for the whole family across generations. kwim?
2. sometimes even with good docs, you need to remind them of the history. so for example, blood in urine. it's worth saying you know doc, past 6 months i've noticed blood off and on, but the tests came back negative, AND now i feel this pressure plus nausea and this is the hormonal outlook (i learned to always, always, always mention any issues with the menstrual cycle, because it has a huge bearing on a woman's health). could they be related? i shouldn't have blood in my urine like this, should i? in other words, paint the wider symptomatic picture for them, remind them of the history, and plant the seeds of questions in their brains.
3. emphasize how concerned you are. say categorically, am i worried about this. i am concerned about this. it doesn't seem normal and i want to make sure WE can get it addressed and put behind me. generally when you emphasize concern, it will trigger an alert in even the most passive of physicians, if for no other reason than for malpractice concerns (and that is generally a flag for you that if you have to go that far to get his/her attention, then he/she is not the physician for you). and finally, if even that does not work, just say outright, can we please test for this? i would feel better if I knew the answer. they will not deny you the test generally.

all that being said, i learned the hard way the difference between a good doc and a not good one. years ago i went to this older doc who practiced family medicine. he was a little out of the way and when i went to him he took me to his exam room, asked me a ream of questions, family history, personal medical history, emotional history, weighed me, checked eyes, nose, throat, abdominal and lung exam, breast exam. then he wrote me a slew of tests to have done - ecg, brain ct, blood tests etc. and he wrote me 6 specialist referrals. i was very put off, because i was in perfect health and had just gone to him as a new pcp. he said no i want baseline tests for everything. i didn't do some of the tests, Embarrassment and eventually stopped going to him after he kept asking for them. Facepalm

he eventually retired. fast forward about 6 years and i went to another pcp. i was feeling sick at the time, and had symptoms and issues. she ignored i everything i said, just brushing them off. 6 months after that i got much sicker with same problems getting much worse, ended up with a different pcp who promptly sent me to a specialist. specialist identified the issue and i was set. but it made me think back to that sweet old doc, and i realized just how much of a treasure he was.

lesson learned: look for the doc who will be proactive on your behalf and will be more fiercely protective of your body than you are. we all need someone to voice their disapproval when we go astray and to guide us down the correct path. your doc has got to be that person for your body or you don't have the right doctor.

Wow GG... thank you! I will certainly heed your advice.

Grandma and grandpa were very much in love, though it is funny to read their letters. Grandpa was the major chaser and grandma was quite stand-offish! It's pretty cute. I think it was the christmas before this last one, Aunt Paula made a beautiful book/scrapbook for all the kids/grandkids that had copies of photos, memories, and letters back and forth from grandma and grandpa in it. It has been an amazing thing to read and look over and often makes me realize how much letter writing has become a lost art and something we don't quite treasure enough.

feeling sick... do you like ginger?

sweetie that sounds plain icky! i am so sorry you're feeling so sick.
i always lose my voice when i get sick. my remedy ricola tea - get the regular kind, not sugar free, the kind that comes in a yellow bag with herb pictures on it. put two in a mug. pour hot water in mug. stir till they melt. drink that tea every few hours. it really soothes a sore throat and reduces coughing and does so without nasty chemicals.
if i get a really bad dry cough, which has happened to me a few times, i resort to the dry cough robitussin and ricola tea. that robitussin tastes uber nasty but it does work.
also, got any ester c at home? take 2-3000 mg a day for 2-3 days. it will zap the infections. just make sure to spread out the ester c intake throughout the day cos your body discards any excess vitamin c in urine. so if you take it all at once, anything that isn't used soon is out. smaller doses throughout the day make better use.

thank you for the good wishes and thinking of me! this process of physical healing is so very slow. a good reminder to take care of ourselves.
i realize i am much better today than i was 5 weeks ago, in that i can get dressed undressed or sit up or lie down without help, ditto showering, etc. but i so want to do more, be normal again. i haven't left the house in 3 weeks! and i hadn't gone down the stairs in more than 2 weeks. just too painful. tried doing so today and tried sealing a box with packing tape. that was enough - i have burning pain in my knee, abdomen and shoulder. again. and the shortness of breath is back with the intensified pain. so annoying.

patience is a virtue, right? we need to be patient with our hurting bodies.

sending prayers and comfort your way for speedy healing!
I am going to write ginger down! I have thought of getting it many times but never remember, usually coupons are my shopping list and if I don't have a coupon I forget. I think there was something else that my Aunt used to feed us for upset tummy when we traveled, it kinda looked liked dried mango but more pale, maybe a root, I don't think it was ginger but maybe, it just tasted sweet and mild.

I am finally starting to feel human and get my voice back but it is still really froggy. I do have some Ricola in a yellow bag and am making the tea now, I really need to note this stuff down so I remember it when I need it most. When I am super sick I can't remember anything I just tell DH to get me some vit C. I have been taking three or four 500 mg at different times during the day, DH keeps telling me it is to much, I am telling him it's not cuz GG said so! ;) Besides if I pee it out oh well, my body is using all it can so whats the harm? We have 10 or 15 more bottles of Nature Made Vit C downstairs, not like we are gonna run out soon. I do have some robitussin in the cabinet too, I just HATE it so I haven't taken any... yet. Maybe tonight, I DO NOT want to wake up. I hate waking up in a coughing fit but I hate waking DH up even more. He has been so sweet to let me sleep in (well as much as I can, ugh still waking up at 830, but that is still sleeping in) and he has been taking the kids to school and all. I keep telling him I will sleep on the couch but he won't let me.

I am so glad you are at least able to take care of yourself, even if it takes longer, that IS something. Only once was I totally Dependant on DH like that before and it was an eye opener! And I was very thankfully it was only for a few days. Keeping you and yours in my prayers as well as many of my TCC peeps, so we all should be back in tip top shape soon. ;)

I don't know how you MAKE a Dr take a better look at you, maybe grab him by the shoulders and say something like Hey I am SURE SOMETHING is wrong! Please do NOT dismiss my concerns! Print off some of the stuff GG said and go over it with him.

I told the Dr's multiple Drs for YEARS something was wrong with my DD! I just knew it, deep in my bones knew SOMETHING was wrong. They ALL told me I was a paranoid worried mother, for 8 years!!!! After much annoying them they finally agreed to do some tests like thyroid and another growth hormone, I can't remember. (but they would have come back normal because after DD's diagnosis we had to have those things tested any way and those Dr's would have been "See we told you she was normal")
We moved and during that horrific blizzard we moved in driving for 10 hours (um yeah it was only supposed to be about 5 at most) our youngest DD got very ill and puked all over, spiked a fever., etc. So the first morning at our new place I picked a Dr out of the yellow pages and took the kids to the Dr. Somehow I managed to pick the only Dr in the area who had a background specialty in genetics! So after he looked after youngest and got her scrip (ear infection) he VERY politely told me that he knew I was here for my youngest but did I happen to have any concerns about my oldest? And he nodded in her direction.

I nearly broke down into tears right then. It was also very scary because he had just validated my concerns that something WAS wrong with my oldest DD. I told him everything and he very calmly told me he thought that genetic testing was the route we should go. So it turned out my DD has Turner's Syndrome. She has a mild case and she has none of the features you see some of the girls that have pics online, you would never know just by looking at her. Well unless you had enough experience in genetics that you would notice a lower hair line, one reason why she has such thick hair, she just has more of it, slightly lower set ears, smaller chin, big eyes and the fact that she was going into third grade but was the size of a kid in kindergarten.

The obvious signs that our Peds missed was her extreme high arched palate, so much so that she had a lot of trouble nursing, she could not suction/latch on right ever, she could only nurse during let down and we had to supplement with bottles because she was so jaundice and always so hungry but couldn't nurse very long. She had an ear infection every two to four months until we had tubes put in her ears at age 4. She has a horse shoe shaped kidney. She stopped growing. Her head is very large for her body, barrel shaped chest. :dontknow: Mostly her obvious charastics were the extreme shortness, below the 5th percentile, the multitude of ear infections, and the high arched palate, also the kidney if they would have ever looked.

:dont know: I hate Dr's they just don't seem to really listen or care. Since they didn't listen to me we missed out on having our DD on HGH to help her grow for 8 yrs. I am glad we moved, we needed to find this Dr we have for our kids now, he is amazing. Our DD is still usually the shortest in her class but last year there was one kid who was shorter than her. Her meds are $100 per day though, that is crazy!! She has to have a shot every day and it is $100 per shot 7 times a week! But once we had her on the meds she started growing like a weed, no more having the same winter coat three years in a row or the same jeans fitting for two to three years at a time. I was having to buy her new jeans every 6 months!!! It was expensive but great as she had a LOT of catching up to do. All that growing has leveled off again and has slowed down, hopefully not to much, she is NOT tall enough yet. Hopefully she will keep growing for a few years, she is still way to short to be full grown, but she is 14 so we will see.

She is doing great now, 8th grade and getting her braces off, her teeth were really kinda messed up from the super high arched palate and luckily she got her molars in really early, she got braces in 3rd grade! We found a Otho who was fantastic and said as soon as she had 4 molars he could do braces and he did :D thank goodness! She was just starting to get very selfconscious because kids were making fun of her teeth "freaky teeth pointing out" :(

Eh sorry, just rambling on and on here waiting for my brownie cup cakes to get done, TMI I know :P

Wow, it is late and I am checking in.. Seems you guys have been rather talkative tonight. We went to dinner with some friends and then they came over to hang out for a few hours.. Then, loaded them down with some stockpile stuff, and some coffee from the Keurig in my nice after Christmas coffee cups with lids for the trip home.. A good night Smilie

I ran into target just because I beside there and needed creamer for our guests, and I wanted to use that OM carving board coupon and get some cheap lunch meat.. So aggravated as I was leaving I saw my favorite jedi ever coming in heart and I didn't have time to shop! haven't seen him working in forever!

Jamie - glad you made it safe and are settling in for your first target run!

Ank - Sorry about DH grandma.. sweet story though hug hope that nausea is better tonight.

Nikayla - hug

Gonna check on a few deals and get to bed soon.. Goodnight everyone!

Are we supposed to know what grits are?

Uhm. Is the new Olay Q (buy the bar soap, get the deo) as amazing as my drunk ass thinks it might be? Or are there exclusions?
