And remember the jedi we were talking abt at SJ store, she now works weekend evenings...I would say late afternoon until night..But she is moved to other jobs arnd 7....
I got reminded of why I like to preview all movies... Picked Chaos Theory which *says* it's PG-13, but had to turn it off after the first 5 minutes.
Hmm... so what's selling?
and red wine
or white wine
or both...

Sometimes what passes as PG-13 amazes me.

Kewl - sounds like you had a great sale. DH is thinking of doing a few this next year... wouldn't mind getting some input on pricing if/when you are ever up to it. Normally we give most of our excess away, but lately I've kind of built up a bit more than I planned/expected.
And yes - it amazes me what is called pg13.
Oh - I forgot to mention that I could not find the little goodlife trays at all today. I didn't even see a shelf spot for them! It is kind of sad/annoying.
(just remind me... cuz I will probably chicken out by then...)
dazzled, before you do any drive reformatting:
1. is your laptop giving you that message every time you start up or did it do it just once and you haven't tried after? sometimes windows has a hitch starting up. try again.
2. also, do you have a cd/dvd left in the drive? you'll get that error message when that happens cos windows will try to boot up from the disc drive. remove the disc and try booting up.
3. finally if none of those work, when you boot up the machine, press f8 key until you get a black screen with white writing and select "windows in safe mode" and hit enter. it will start up windows in safe mode. all the icons will look big, that's normal. then you can go to start menu, accessories, system tools, system restore and select an older day so it restores the computer to a previous setting before any problem occurred.
4. if windows cannot start up in safe mode, reboot again, press f8 and this time from the choices select 'last known good configuration" and boot up that way and see if windows starts. if it does, it will fix the problem and you'll be fine.
5. finally if all of the above fails and you have to reformat the drive and reload all software you have two choices:
a) if you call the laptop manufacturer and give them the model number and serial number of your laptop they will mail you a recovery disc for a small cost. the disc will have everything your machine had when you got it brand new so essentially it will restore it to factory condition
b) if you are going to reformat the disk, and reload an operating system, you don't have to put what it had before. you can pick a newer operating system (aka OS) as long as the computer has enough processor speed and ram to support the new OS. so, really there's no need to go with XP unless you want to. reformatting and reloading an OS is essentially like getting a brand new hard drive and putting on it anything you want. so i don't recommend windows vista - it's a terrible OS full of bugs. but windows 7 is much faster, leaner and more secure than windows xp. so you would be best off putting on 7. if not, if you do go the xp route, just make sure that you go online and complete all windows updates including putting on xp service packs 1, 2, 3 and any other critical security updates that came after that. that is critical.
holler if you have questions or if I can help.
ank... turkey. if you put the frozen turkey in the fridge overnight it will thaw a lot. then early am put in a sink full of cold water. when i have bought frozen turkey in the past that's how i always thawed my turkey. 2-3 hours in the sink and it was perfectly ready to go in oven and actually in that chilled, somewhat frozen state it cooked to be far more tender cos the liquids didn't evaporate quickly while cooking.
ank your doctor reminder is going in my siggy.
M2C - sorry you are in one of those moods.. I get like that sometimes, especially when I just need some me time
Dazzled and flug - congrats on the sales.. I had some very successful sales last year.. But sadly, my stockpile is growing near as much these days as it once did
Ank - glad you got to spend some time with your 14 year old.. Were you looking for a movie, or some kind of TV show?
Gator - the craigs list story was pretty weird.. hope the lady leaves you alone!
Jamie - how was the new target??
I went to the big K tonight with DH.. Some video game deal he wanted and it was best at KM.. It is really kinda out of the way, but I decided I would go look around.. They had a ton of Christmas stuff still.. candy, ornaments, gifts sets, candy canes, etc.. and it was all still 50% off
Went by my non coupon friendly target.. Grabbed a few bags of chicken before the sale ended and coupon expired. Walked out with 4 bags of chicken and 4 MP juice boxes
Had to hit the other side of town to pick up my son, so I decided to run into my regular target.. Got a few of the usuals, but had a weird check out experience.. Seemed like we got some kind of update, but before I would ever claim that, I would definitely want to try again.. Basically 2 different coupons I used beeped after the third like coupon and needed a k1 - dropped to the bottom.. But, another coupon in the same family, different amount, went through beepless.. which would lead me to believe they are limiting to 3 like per transaction.. But, then when I used my halls bogo coupons, I was not able to use another coupon with it.. I was getting 4 halls, and normally am able to use 2 bogo and 2 of the .55 off.. this time, the register wouldn't take it and he couldn't k1. It kept popping up asking for coupon amount, then when he entered it said "amount exceeds" I had no barcode issues, double checked when I got home.. Could have possibly been a right side/left side scan issue, but he tried atleast 4 times.. I finally told him not to worry about it.. Any ideas?

I've had similar issues - happens here and there. I think it has been a right/left barcode issue. It seems some scanners are hyper sensitive - even the hand ones.
I have spotted Glen Muir $1 peelies now and again at various groceries stores, on the bigger glass jars, keep you eyes open they are small but yellow. If you are close to me I still have quite a bit I am trying to use up, I put those tomatoes in everything. I have to much paste too.
........snip.
DH showed up tonight with a pink box from the best cupcake store in town and 2 chocolate cupcakes in it for me. I immediately started sobbing.

awww adorable baby pics. and holy hair!!
WF... different stores put em in different places. i've found them by the entrance, by the exit, on a small magazine rack along the side of the customer service desk, on top of the hot food bar.. and elsewhere. if you have a regular store... walk around and peruse corners where you wouldn't normally look/go. also, sometimes when it's just the start of a month, CS has them in a box behind the desk or sometimes out back in the office and just haven't put it out yet. if you ask for it, they will bring it out. WF has great customer service so never hesitate to ask for help.
........
the muir glen q - they come around every 2-3 months. believe it or not, i never bought MG there. i've found MG is almost always a better deal at regular grocery stores (it's a GM product). a store in our area had a sale on the organic pasta sauce. with mqs that doubled, it was about a buck a bottle or less. i stocked up.
we don't use any of the canned MG products (or any other canned products for that matter) ever since I learned of BPA in cans. only jarred stuff or tetrapacks.
I know, I like MG pasta sauce, i stocked up some when there was the WF coupons were around, stacking with MQ, comes little cheap.. Agree with you on the cans.. we rarely use cans too, but i love their tomato products..
Next time, I will have my eyes wide open to see those coupons..
........:
We buy organic stuffs mostly, since i started using coupons i am able to buy organic stuffs in pretty decent price range too. I use this chart (attached on the bottom of this post) on buying the organic stuffs. Esp the orange and red ones, i buy organic or i dont buy at all..
I could eat a couple gallons of this a week.
I told the Dr's multiple Drs for YEARS something was wrong with my DD! I just knew it, deep in my bones knew SOMETHING was wrong. They ALL told me I was a paranoid worried mother, for 8 years!!!! After much annoying them they finally agreed to do some tests like thyroid and another growth hormone, I can't remember. (but they would have come back normal because after DD's diagnosis we had to have those things tested any way and those Dr's would have been "See we told you she was normal")
We moved and during that horrific blizzard we moved in driving for 10 hours (um yeah it was only supposed to be about 5 at most) our youngest DD got very ill and puked all over, spiked a fever., etc. So the first morning at our new place I picked a Dr out of the yellow pages and took the kids to the Dr. Somehow I managed to pick the only Dr in the area who had a background specialty in genetics! So after he looked after youngest and got her scrip (ear infection) he VERY politely told me that he knew I was here for my youngest but did I happen to have any concerns about my oldest? And he nodded in her direction.
I nearly broke down into tears right then. It was also very scary because he had just validated my concerns that something WAS wrong with my oldest DD. I told him everything and he very calmly told me he thought that genetic testing was the route we should go. So it turned out my DD has Turner's Syndrome. She has a mild case and she has none of the features you see some of the girls that have pics online, you would never know just by looking at her. Well unless you had enough experience in genetics that you would notice a lower hair line, one reason why she has such thick hair, she just has more of it, slightly lower set ears, smaller chin, big eyes and the fact that she was going into third grade but was the size of a kid in kindergarten.
The obvious signs that our Peds missed was her extreme high arched palate, so much so that she had a lot of trouble nursing, she could not suction/latch on right ever, she could only nurse during let down and we had to supplement with bottles because she was so jaundice and always so hungry but couldn't nurse very long. She had an ear infection every two to four months until we had tubes put in her ears at age 4. She has a horse shoe shaped kidney. She stopped growing. Her head is very large for her body, barrel shaped chest.
......
donno what to say nik, your post moved me so much.. and glad that you got the right doctor and you are a great mother..
Glad your cough got better too..
So, I answered a part-time job posting on Craigslist. It was to help a senior house-bound woman with a personal injury lawsuit. I spoke to her and she told me her story and I really sympathized with her. She had a bad slip & fall that shouldn't have happened and she would probably never get out of bed again. Anyways, she hired me for the paralegal-type job (I guess she couldn't afford to pay attorney's fees) last Sunday and I told her I wouldn't be able to start until Wednesday and that I would call her in the morning to set a time. Anyways, called her Wednesday and she told me that she had hired someone else and that he had been working with her since Monday

i first started buying organic produce a a few years ago when i learned of the dirty dozen list. have you heard of it? it's revised every year - a list of the 12 items with the highest pesticide levels. strawberries are almost always near the top of that list. yuck.
then a few years into it, learned the principle that generally you should pick organic for any thin-skinned fruits and vegetables as well as anything leafy since they absorb a lot more of the pesticides/fungicides etc, and also pick organic for any root veggies since they are completely engulfed in soil. so for example if one had to do a mix of organic and conventional produce, strawberries organic, pineapple you could do conventional, salad greens and herbs always organic, ditto potatoes. and so forth.
we eventually transitioned to being all organic. as a general rule, i do not buy conventionally grown produce. if an organic version is not available or too expensive or not good quality, we will go without. on occasion if someone is really craving something, i will make an exception and if the item is not available in an organically grown version, i will make an exception and get it for one-time eating, like a pineapple, or sometimes okra (i have never found organic okra, so now we no longer eat it often). but i hold that line very firm.
packaged foods - it has to be organic, and if no organic version is available, has to be free of all artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, additives, sweeteners. and even then, i read the ingredient list on all shelf goods and packaged goods. if i find any ingredients that are not straightforward kitchen ingredients, or sound like they belong in a chemistry lab, that food will not make it into my house. no canned food at all.
we don't do microwave dinners either. some of the trader joes frozen foods are liked by the tribe here, so when we get them (again as occasional treats or backups) we tip em out of the plastic try and heat in a microwave safe bowl.
it sounds restrictive, but once you get used to buying and eating freshly made food with clean ingredients, it's super easy. and if you then try any of the conventional packaged foods, the flavor plus how you feel after a meal is so different from the freshly prepared organic stuff, you never go back.
yes like you, i've been combining mqs plus store sales at wf as well as other grocery chains to get the stuff for cheap. it is entirely doable. you just have to train your mind to look for it. and i also look for MM cat deals, and then use the cats to buy organic pantry staples. that frees up some $ for produce, organic meats, and wild seafood. sigh - we do have to work so hard to get clean food these days.
muir glen tomato products...there is a company called bionaturae. they sell jarred tomato paste. really good quality. no BPA. organic. goes on sale at WF from time to time. have never found coupons for them.
there are a few different italian companies selling whole tomatoes, diced tomatoes, and tomato sauce in tetra paks. WF sells those as do other grocery stores. again no BPA.
finally, i make my own roasted tomatoes right before i want to use em. takes about 10 mins, turns out ultra flavorful, works beautifully for soups, sauces and other uses for whole roasted tomatoes. all you do is wash the tomatoes and put them in a single layer in a deep pot. then drizzle evoo on them and some salt-free italian seasoning (it's just a blend of dried herbs). toss to coat. cover and cook on medium heat about 10 mins or until the tomatoes are soft and the skin is cracked/torn/peeling. let cool for a few minutes. peel off skins and discard (when the tomatoes are done, the skins just come off in your hands effortlessly). holding each tomato over the cooking pot, chop up the tomatoes as coarsely or as finely as you need, allowing juices to drip back into pot. reserve juices and oile/herb mixture from pot to use for whatever you are making or for another recipe.
done!
dazzled and ank, since you guys were watching documentaries, i'm curious, either one of you watched food, inc? i haven't though i've read reviews and seen clips. i'm afraid to see it but i hear it is very interesting and eye-opening.
When we sell it will very likely be to someone much younger. With the added finished basement and other improvements -- we have 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a fenced yard with a pool.
Should we add the wet snack bar or not?
just for example, bff spent more money and got the brass package for her master bath back in 1998. so all the metal trim on the shower, the light fixtures and the faucets are all in gold. since brass is now totally out of style, she cannot find any bathroom light fixture in the same finish besides the one she already has. and she's not going to change the faucets, toilet tank handle and shower just to match the light fixture.
back in 1998, or 13 yrs ago, corian was hot. now corian is just ok and best to have real granite or silestone type counters. back then the wood floors were oak, maple, cherry, hickory, etc. now they are bamboo, brazilian cherry, cork, and other exotics. back then stainless steel appliances hadn't become popular. it was either white or black. back then plumbing fixtures came in chrome or brass. since then we've gone thru brushed nickel and now are on antique bronze.
omg, i'm so sleepy! can't keep my eyes open! manana!
