OCD Me!

Time to 'fess up...

We all have strange habits/superstitions/compulsions. Give it up--let's hear yours.

Here are a couple of mine. I have a strange distaste for odd numbers. If I can control something and I have a choice between even or odd--for example, my home theater receiver volume displays in digits--I will always choose an even number.

I also "write" phrases with my finger on any surface (the arm of my chair, the car door, my thigh) that I hear on the television, radio, etc. I alternate between cursive and print, and sometimes I try to keep up with whomever I'm copying. For example, if the news is on and the anchor says "a shocking double murder in the District this evening," I will be scribbling this phrase on the couch cushion to my right.

I've also practiced wiping my butt with my left hand in case my right hand gets cut off or mangled in some horrible accident.

Your turn.

I'd quote you ZM but that would just make it worse. It bugs me too; like the quotation never stops. In an effort to help my fellow Loungers:

Wow, nice thread, I can't believe I never noticed it before.

My oldest ds has OCD, and I do too...

When I am anxious, I count to a preset number in my head. If the problem is not resolved by the time I finish my count I set a new end number and start again, if I don't, I lose control.

My food can't touch or get mixed up on my plate. It has to either be cooked that way or it should be separated.

On my exams, if there is a math problem, I must have scrap paper to work out my problems before I transfer my work and answer to the turn in sheet. I can't stand having to erase and re-write in the same smudged area. I will actually have to force myself to finish the problem. There have been plenty of times it has caused me to turn in a test without the answer written in the answer blank, even though the work and correct answer was on the smudged test sheet.

Ok... I have plenty more but won't post them laugh out loud

I deliberately dont memorize my bank account number so that if Im kidnapped they cant beat the number out of me no matter how much money I have in my account.

Well crud, after reading these, even my OCD's sound boring! Mad

I usually check and double check if the door is locked.
I do the double bump on the door to make it is locked, all three locks on it. I also have to sneak a peek into the kitchen to make sure the stove is off, even when I have not used it in a couple of days.

I also have this habit of taking a sweater and t-shirt off together rather than separately, meaning I have to peel them apart in order to wear the sweater again. That one I inherited from my dad - my to the displeasure of my mom.

laugh out loud I had a relative that wouldn't eat Jell-O because she said she wouldn't eat anything that can move by itself.

I am becoming more and more protective of my Firefox tabs. First tab on the left needs to be Google, 2nd tab SD, third is a random tab for surfing/stumbling, 4th tab can be deals or whatever opens in a new tab when I click a hyperlink.

Ditto my taskbar... first button needs to be Outlook, 2nd Firefox, 3rd IE, after that it's whatever I'm using temporarily that will go away when I'm done. 3 buttons only!
