OCD Me!

Time to 'fess up...

We all have strange habits/superstitions/compulsions. Give it up--let's hear yours.

Here are a couple of mine. I have a strange distaste for odd numbers. If I can control something and I have a choice between even or odd--for example, my home theater receiver volume displays in digits--I will always choose an even number.

I also "write" phrases with my finger on any surface (the arm of my chair, the car door, my thigh) that I hear on the television, radio, etc. I alternate between cursive and print, and sometimes I try to keep up with whomever I'm copying. For example, if the news is on and the anchor says "a shocking double murder in the District this evening," I will be scribbling this phrase on the couch cushion to my right.

I've also practiced wiping my butt with my left hand in case my right hand gets cut off or mangled in some horrible accident.

Your turn.

I check the date on all my coins and save the ones that were minted in my birth year. I have 3 "piggy" banks for them--the pennies go in the frog, the nickels and dimes go in the giraffe, and the quarters go in the monkey.

Face-down coins are bad luck.

As a matter of fact, they do. The frog is called "Fred," the giraffe goes by "Gregory," and the monkey's name is "Marvin."

ok, i am feeling open enough to share
heart
I love picking!
And no, not boogers!
Like it totally bugs me when people have dried up shampoo or soap in their ears and it's sorta peeking out.

Or if someone gets a sunburn, I can't WAIT for their skin to start peeling. I love me some peelies Smilie

When my cat or DH yawns, I have to really hold back on trying to stick my finger in their mouth in it's fullest yawn position.

When I can tell wifey is going to sneeze (she gets that funky look on her face and looks up at the light on the ceiling) I smack her lightly on the back of her head. This usually makes a person's sneeze go away. It's hil-farking-larious.

well VQ already mentioned about the even digits, mostly for volume on music
players etc.

On sidewalks I always try not to step on the dividing lines.

I remember this from a closed/deleted thread. OP had ocd about
cheerios not sinking into the milk. VBS knows all too well.

the only thing i can think of off the top of my head is that whenever I am bored in class, I always doodle the letter "f" in cursive. just over and over and over. Just that letter, no other letter. I hate writing in cursive, except for the letter "f". its so pretty...

and then sometimes when im really bored in class, ill write all the websites I go to in cursive.... so, slickdeals.net, cfbnews.com, email.usc.edu, espn.com, yahoomail, etc etc etc

:idontknow thats all i can think of...

Well crud, after reading these, even my OCD's sound boring! Mad

I usually check and double check if the door is locked. Drives my husband mad when I whisper to him after we are in bed already "did you check the door??"

His are worse though. If he is pumping gas it has to end on a round number, preferably the change ending in .00 or .50 ~no extra pennies floating around there.

He also checks his alarm over and over at night, making sure its good to go.

Oh hell, I do the gas thing too! Wifey keeps telling me "it doesn't matter when you put it on the credit card" but I NEED the pump to show .00! If I'm really off my game it can go to .25 or .50 or .75 but if that happens I'll be sad for the rest of the day.

I also check my alarm several times. My bedside clock is 34 minutes fast, btw. The clock in my truck is 12 minutes fast and all of my wristwatches are at least 6 minutes fast. I guess that's another one.

I have issues.

my only compulsive behavior is getting anywhere I need to be at least 1/2 hour early. I mean most everywhere! I'm anal about getting somewhere and finding the best parking space which will explain why I need to be at places way early.

The only exception is if it's at a place where it's first come first served on seating then I'll be there an hour early to get good seats.
