OCD Me!

Time to 'fess up...

We all have strange habits/superstitions/compulsions. Give it up--let's hear yours.

Here are a couple of mine. I have a strange distaste for odd numbers. If I can control something and I have a choice between even or odd--for example, my home theater receiver volume displays in digits--I will always choose an even number.

I also "write" phrases with my finger on any surface (the arm of my chair, the car door, my thigh) that I hear on the television, radio, etc. I alternate between cursive and print, and sometimes I try to keep up with whomever I'm copying. For example, if the news is on and the anchor says "a shocking double murder in the District this evening," I will be scribbling this phrase on the couch cushion to my right.

I've also practiced wiping my butt with my left hand in case my right hand gets cut off or mangled in some horrible accident.

I will crank the top down on a screw-top bottle so hard that you almost need pliers to open the thing. Not sure why I do this, but it drives my wife crazy when I pour her a glass of soda from a two-liter bottle and she goes to refill it on her own.

One of my biggest pet peaves is people who do the opposite of you. I can't stand it when a 2-liter isn't closed tightly.

I keep a $20 folded up in behind my credit cards in my wallet in case of emergencies.

Chapstick bugs the hell out of me. I can't stand to have anything on my lips, it makes me craz(ier) than normal.

I really like parenthesis.

I'm captivated by the volume thing too. Mine is usually at either 5's or 0's all the time.

But another thing that totally owns me is pairs of shoes. I need for them to be placed together correctly and neatly, side-by-side. The whole room could be a complete trainwreck, but I'll put somebody's shoes together.
