Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

Gary, you may know. I use this little netbook all the time (desktop still not fixed) and I set the battery charge to stop at 80% - battery saver - like the book said. But, should I keep it plugged in all the time while using it or unplug it and drain it until maybe 10% and then plug it in again. It seems when the battery goes lower things move along slower online also. but, I want to save the battery life. Do you happen to know? Thanks

Hi bornblondeey, It depends on the type of battery, Nicads develope a memory, Nimh's don't tend to, and lithium batteries do not. The type of battery should be in your manual in the specs section. The charging and discharging (draining) should also be in there. I don't know much about the laptops, but that does not matter, Only battery type. I hope this helps. Wink

thanks - manual says it is a lithun-ion smart battery so what does that mean as far as me plugging it in all the time?

I forgot to write this when I responded to you - it is at 80% even though it is plugged in.

I would probably let it go to full charge with the power off. Then use it as long as you can without it plugged in. Then you can plug it in while using it if you have to, then turn it off without unpluuging it to re-charge fully. The life is about 300 + cycles (charging and dicharging). this article may help.

But if you check the Official Rules, it specifically says, " Limit: one entry per person per day"
so which entry limit applies?
The Details - once you have entered, if you return to the entry page, the Enter Sweepstakes button is gone. Typical for Wildfire sweeps.

LiIon batteries have the charger circuits build directly into the packs themselves, rather than the computer, so don't worry about it, just leave it plugged in or not.

I'm sitting on my sofa with my MacBook Pro (thanks Sobe!), and it is plugged in all the time (LOVE the Magsafe connector, I kick the cord and pop it loose all the time - I wish Apple would license it for everyone to use. I also wish they would adapt it to the iPad).

Want to get down and dirty? Apply for Dial Deoderant's "Camp Dirt"
Nope, won't be entering that one - $9700 prize, no cash to offset the taxes. Over $2k tax liability for a 3 day "vacation" where they'll tire you out. Nope, not me, I can get dirty working in my own yard. look around

300+ full cycles maybe, but thousands of partial cycles. If you can leave it plugged in as often as possible, you reduce full cycle discharges, and increase the battery life (in real time) greatly. For LiIon and NimH, anyways.

This is one of the reasons a Prius NimH HVBattery lasts so long - Toyota has set up the BMS so that the battery is only cycled from 40-80% under normal use. (So yes, if you are able to set your laptop to charge to 80%, it is better, but if you know you need it unplugged for hours, you might want to temporarily remove that limit - but for LiIon, you'll get years of use just by letting it handle itself).

Speaking of sweeps, I entered my car in the Shell contest on Sat, and it still hasn't shown up. Frustrating, as I am missing out on daily draws. Maybe the ONE person approving them is asleep...
