Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

Yeah, we have had officially on my rain gauge .06 hundredths of an inch for April. South Texas normally gets 4 to 5 inches in April, but everything has been north and east of here.

If you're going to use your old keyboard, mouse, display, etc, $1000 is much more than you need to spend. You can get a decent Win7 64-bit system for $500 these days, max out the RAM for another $50-200, and be set for 5 years or more.

For example - http://www.noobie.com/whatsnoo/what-can-i-do-with-two-dinosaur-computers - that system is $380 in the article. Can't be upgraded much due to the small size, but is a nice system, and DIRT CHEAP. http://www.shopping.hp.com/produc...AA%2523ABA

This system is $449 at http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/store_access.do;HHOJSID=xJj9N4vPCnL94QwD1KD42nqTz0cJFLXyj601jTypfhlyKC2s1hKj!-1564617102?template_type=series_detail&category=desktops&series_name=s5750z_series&jumpid=in_R329_prodexp/hhoslp/psg_ipg/homepage/featured/5/home_featured5_s5750z_series_427 [hp.com]
but might have more than what was in the article.

Buy it with the memory it comes with, as the 4GB only fills 2 of the 4 slots, and you can probably find 2x2GB kits for the free slots in the Hot Deals forum here for a LOT less than $120, especially if they have a rebate. With Win7 64-bit, you can, and want to, go with the max RAM a system can handle.

Search SD for coupon codes for HP, as they show up often, so you can probably get this system even cheaper (though the coupons sometimes conflict with the Free Upgrades, the HP cart is nice enough to give you the best discount in the final cart when you apply a coupon and Free Upgrades are part of it). And SD often has coupons for the daily sweeps that involve HP systems.
great tips---

I am just using laptops and net book now so I will have to buy keyboard, mouse, display,
kind of thinking of the all in ones,

If you don't want the keyb/mouse that comes with it for free, you can upgrade the 5750 to wireless mouse/kb for $30.

OR check freecycle.org and Yahoo Groups to see if there is a Freecycle group in your area. If there is, you can post a Wanted for the keyboard and mouse and probably get one them within hours for free. But personally, I'd try the ones it comes with first, and look for good deals later if you want.

Save the money for a display - the larger the better - it allows you to run a high resolution to run 2 windows side-by-side. If the text is too small, you can enlarge it overall in Windows, or just enlarge it in the browser. I run a 26", which these days are $300 or so, 24" are the "sweet spot" for price, you can get those for $200 or less. Just watch the Hot Deals forum here for good prices. Most of the threads on them will have people speaking up on the quality of the display listed, if not, ASK, and you'll probably get feedback quickly.

The HP 5750 I linked to has options for a 25" monitor for $290 and 27" for $350. I haven't followed prices on these (my last monitor purchase was 2 years ago), but that looks decent. BUT check the Hot Deals forum first in case prices are better than that lately.
