The Catholic Church doesn't say a woman has to stay with an abuser. She can leave him with no problem. She just can't divorce him or marry someone else. Something about the vows people take regarding " 'til death do us part." If the woman does marry again, she can't do it in a Catholic church because they don't let you double up on those vows. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying that's how it works.
