Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

Geez, you take all the fun out of doomsdays, don't you? Wink

I look at it this way -- the people who fall for those scams spend weeks hiding out and/or praying, which keeps them off the streets and out of my hair. That's not a bad thing, dm. bounce
Yeah I know! Sorry to be such a killjoy! It's just guys like this just really get under my skin. I've had it up to here with scammers, crooked politicians and bankers, and the super rich!! I know firsthand what its like to lose a good amount of money to a crooked banker. And the damage that's being done to our country can't just be swept under the rug. Soap Box Well I've said all I need to, time to get back to the fun and frivolity!! Whee

I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't agree with you on this. I see seniors who have had their life savings ripped off -- some by "investment brokers" others by bank incompetence and others by their caregivers who strip their accounts.

Although the center at which I volunteer is mainly geared toward seniors, we do get walk-ins who have been referred by organizations that know we have full time social workers. The walk-ins are men and women who have lost their jobs and are trying to support their families but just can't. And most of them have run through any and all savings and just didn't want to go on public assistance, but are now facing hundreds of dollars of unpaid gas and electric bills and can't afford food for their kids.

Our social workers know ALL the tricks, plus we have a food bank we can call on. The food bank is only open once a week, but we keep shopping bags full of non-perishable items in one of our back rooms. From what I've been told, they used to keep two or three bags on hand for local seniors who had been too sick or injured to do a regular food shop. For the last few years, we've had twenty or thirty bags on site because we've been going through so many.

The people I work with are so wonderful, and really funny. One day, as like the fifteenth bag was handed out, I was talking with the receptionist and said something about how everyone seems to be making out like bandits except the poor volunteer (me) who slaves away for six hours a day and never makes a penny.

Not even ten minutes later, one of the social workers came over to my desk with two shopping bags of food. Speaking very quietly, she explained that no one realized that I could use some help, and I really should have said something before that, because they appreciate all I do and are more than happy to give me whatever they had available.

I was soooooooo embarrassed. I'd been kidding, but the receptionist must have told someone that I needed assistance. After thoroughly abasing myself while explaining that I had been joking around with the receptionist, I thanked her profusely and promised that if I ever need ANY help, she'd be the first person I told.

But we've seen so many people with so many problems, everyone assumes that the person standing next to them may easily need help. All I can do is vote and deal with problems one by one. Most of us are in the same situation. We help those closest to us, donate what we can and just keep keeping on.

I won a coupon for a free Skittles on the contest Challs posted, so......so far, my day has been pretty sweet.

And my internet connection is still consistent and quick.

And except for Miss Kitty's liver problem which is being dealt with as best the vet can, we're all healthy (if not wealthy or wise).

In short, I'm feeling dang good this AM. Planning to do something to change that? Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

And how are you?
Congrats, on the candy win Smilie

You are to be commended for what you do! I know how hard it is for a lot of people to go through hard times and still reach out to their neighbor. I guess I have become more alert to the hardships being placed upon us because of my kids and grandkids. The possibility of what kind of life they may be facing if this country keeps going in the direction it is going actually horrifies me. I have no tolerance what-so-ever for the people responsible. But I really admire what you do and how you are handling it. You are an angel in our midst!! hug
