Nah, I don't give blood, I give RBCs. Most people don't have a high enough iron content to donate RBCs, since I do, I figure I should. But you can only give 1/2 aas often, which is stupid, I know my RBC count is high enough to give more often, but regs are regs.

Registered with marrow.org too, but haven't been called.

If you have a marrow testing center near you, get registered. The database of donors is too small.

When I was going through nursing school we worked in the hospital. Alot of the times the undies would have to be cut off anyway. Absolutely no modesty and those gowns dont help!!! Big Grin The veins on the inside of my arms run so deep and roll away from the needle!!! They were going to take blood out from under my tongue one time. Best vein I got!!! LMAO

Last time I was in the hospital (AGES ago), they weren't doing too well on getting it in my elbow, even though I have large veins (someone called them "pipelines" once) - they kept putting it in too far. I told them to put it in the back of my hand, they didn't listen. I pumped my fist a few times, showed them the size of the veins, they shut up and moved the needle to my hand. No problems after that.

When I give RBCs, I can generally be out of there in about half the time of normal, and it takes that long because I have to wait for the machine to pump the plasma back in.

But yeah, an experienced tech is well worth it, I've had times where they tried 5-6 times before getting the experienced tech that popped it in right on the first try.

My iron content has been all over the charts. Too high for years and then too low then went too high again. OK now but The cure for too much iron is bloodletting!!! Donating works. My mom and my aunt have both had to do this. Mine was never really bad enough and I was alway bleeding from one boo bo or another!!! LMAO

I know you have mostly older clients, but for the next one, you might want to check out marrow.org, and see if you can have it up on the computers there to show to people. the more people in the database, the better, as often even direct family members aren't a good enough match.
