Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

My mom was the genealogist of the family. Spent many years researching (and this was before the internet) and talking to generations of family members. She finally got everything pulled together & published 2 different books, one on her father's family history and the other on her mother's side. The best parts of the books are from letters & face-to-face conversations she have with various family members, like great-great-aunts Stella & Nella (twins). I bet your family would love for you to record and pass down the stories you have to share.
That's so great. I love history. History repeats it self, look at M & M. Twins run in the family.

ckaand33's family should definitely record their history also, priceless info.

Gee Tree, all you have to do is ask!!
Gołąbki (pronounced go-womp-kee) is translated as pigeon. Although no pigeon is used in the recipe, the name could possibly be due to it's resemblance to the shape of pigeon breast. Legend has it that a king of Poland (Casimir IV Jagiellon) fed his army with golabki before a key battle in 1465 and the subsequent victory was credited to this hearty meal beforehand. Personally I feel like sleeping after a big meal but maybe there was some secret ingredient in the ancient version that 'gave the soldiers wings' (pun intended).

Golabki is basically boiled cabbage leaves stuffed with minced meat (traditionally beef but also pork/chicken/turkey), onion and rice (or buckwheat groats/kasia). The cabbage rolls are served with a rich tomato based sauce in which the golabki is cooked.
When I first tasted this, I immediately changed my favourite Polish dish from Bigos to this. Although now I think of both dishes equally as my favourite.
OK Just googled it. it is spelled two different ways galumkis and galumkies but those of us know what we mean. Thanks I wish hubby would like them but he hates cabbage.

It's all part of the fickle weather systems, and the ingredients of all this strange weather includes it being dry here in the southern plains and you folks getting those pacific fronts that are staying in the midsection of the US. I'll take your rain but cut the tornadoes, please!!Big Grin

I actually started some from my dad's side. He is the second oldest of 11 sisters 2 other brothers. He moved out when he was 16 due to father issues. His youngest sister was born when he was 18 and already gone to army. His mother died when I was 3. I am the oldest grandchild on both sides and only one she every met. Waited to pass until dad flew us out there to say goodbye. We grew up knowing one brother and two sisters so over the last couple of years I have been getting to know all the cousins and aunts I didn't know growing up. We put pictures together of our kids and theirs to see the similarities etc. Very interesting. Even little things like my grandmother and I were born on the same day and I was 2 month premature, and my dad's wedding year and hers' were numbers reversed etc. I love that stuff.
I can tell you love that stuff. All the more reason to keep track of the stories and memories - in pictures, written down, and/or recorded on tape. My mom used all three methods. Don't know how she ever kept track of it all, let alone get it all together for 2 books.
