yummy That asparagus sounds delicious! I'll have to try that out. I usually don't add anything to it - which could be why my 3year old says she doesn't like asparagus anymore. hehe!
We've been blanching and freezing them in vacuum freezer bags. I really should take a bag out and try it. A couple years back we had some corn and beans that we must not have preserved properly and tasted nasty - we ended up throwing several bags out Frown

We are in Wisconsin, but heat by radiators. Growing up, the house we lived in had duct work and we left the furnace fan running - it really did help.

Anyone have experience with those tall 'tower' fans? I'm thinking that might be the way to go. Stick it in a corner to circulate air 'around' our first floor?
We use the Vornado fans they do a great job of circulating the air in a room. This year will be the last for window ac units for us. Old house so we're going to replace the ductwork, furnace and add central air. It's pricey but J has many HVAC connections so we'll get a deal on the units from one of his contacts and he'll do the installation which will save major $ on labor.

No-ey slept a 5 1/2 hour stretch last night so he's settling into a good sleep pattern. He went down @ 8:30 and didn't wake until 2. I think I'll dreamfeed him when I go to bed to see if he'll sleep a tad longer.

hug I hope you find something suitable! I would heart a bunch of acres, DH not so much. Frown

I don't have any interesting creatures (unless you count the kids), but I do know that I would HATE a HOA. If I want to paint my house pink and put purple polka dots on it, by golly, that's what I'm going to do and you won't tell me otherwise.

Oh yeah... air conditioning...

Roll

I think we got it working. DH was poking around at the the unit thing inside and found a plastic bag that had gotten sucked up in it. It seems to be cooling things down.

slowly...

I was surprised at how well the fans did yesterday. As long as we kept windows/doors open and fans on, the air circulated pretty well. It was hot, but not totally unbearable. I did take the girls out for a little while in the afternoon, so that helped.

I would be absolutely a mess if I was pregnant though. I don't know how anyone did it before air.

Today, I decided to stay home. We are going to church this evening, and I hope to make a small kmart stop - nothing special that I know of... I just like to check them out ever-so-often.

DH is wanting me to switch to disposable dipes. I have given away all the dipes I've ever stockpiled, so now I"m starting over. Frown He has a super sensitive nose, so even with a diaper pail and daily washes he can't take the smell of the dipes. I don't know why, but it makes me feel kind of sad. But... that's one less load of laundry I have to do daily, eh?

I am also considering weaning Mavis. One side of me looks and feels like hamburger meat. I don't know why she prefers to gnaw at one side, but it's driving me crazy. Frown Makes me kind of sad here too. I may do some pumping. We'll see. Sadwalk

I went to Kroger last night and none of my catalinas printed. GRRRRR. I am missing out on $19 worth of cats!!!

Okay... that's all I can remember between interruptions. *laugh*

I still need to make it to Target. *sigh* I just didn't have the energy to go last night.

My kidlet's favorite food is Spam. The little weirdo
My husband loves Spam. Have you seen the Spam slices? It is a single slice the perfect size to put on bread. They come in flat packages. There was a coupon a couple years ago that made them free. DH was in Spam heaven. According to him, this is the best thing since sliced bread. laugh out loud Only problem is, those free ones are gone, no more coupons and the damn things are ~ $1.25 a piece.

Spam is made not too far from us. There is a Spam Museum and they have a Spam festival every year.

I don't blanch any vegetables to freeze. I don't know what could have happened to your beans and corn. Freezer burn can happen and make them taste nasty weird but if you are vacuum sealing that shouldn't be an issue. I have a few ears of corn on the cob in the freezer that are from last summer. We had some not too long ago and it was still fine. No ice crystals, no weird taste.

You can freeze the corn right in the husks -- literally just pick and freeze but that takes up a whole lot of room. I shuck it, wipe the silks off, put in a Ziploc bags. That's it. Pretty much the same with beans. Snap, wash, lay out or blot to dry, freeze. It you are bagging in meal size bags, just freeze. If you want to put in gallon size and take out what you need as you need, freeze on cookie sheet, then dump in bag.

I just used bell peppers last night that are frozen the same way and they have been in there since last summer too. I'm getting low on them, I need a sale or to find some "getting old so we marked it super cheap".

Yesterday was just weird. Today involves staying home and doing laundry and possible some yard work. I'm shooting for not weird.

Do you have a food city or asian market? That's where i get mine. At the asian market they even cut them up in chunks and package them for .99/pk (easy 3-4 peppers in there) - so I buy, take home and wash and make sure there's nothing moldy, lay out and freeze. Sometimes I cut up a pack or 2 into tinier pieces, but not always. Smilie I love when they do that - otherwise I am NOT buying peppers at anywhere from .79 - 1.29 each. Yes EACH. Frown Frown

Today is Day 6 of my diet and proud to say I have only cheated once this week. Yahoo! I had a big LI Iced Tea Cheers on Monday but other than that I have stuck to the plan. I told my sister that I was doing the diet again and she told me how she remembered me crying last time b/c of hunger. I guess I blocked that part out Dontknow Haven't gotten on the scale since Day 1, so hopefully Friday will be a nice surprise.

Plan to shop today. 2 stores but must re-organize my freezer for all the TGIF on my list.

Does anyone know if 2 lipbalms prompt for the GC? Hide Rofl2

No, I don't have anything like that anywhere near me. One grocery store marks produce down really cheap when it starts getting old. Problem is, I don't shop there regularly. I hate that store so I just run in now and then if there is a super cheap deal. I won't pay that for peppers either. I guess I need to make a point to start running in just to check for peppers when I go to town on Mondays.

*laugh* You sound like me... there are a couple stores that I would not normally buy anything at, but I will check them for their meat or produce mark downs because they will be the cheapest.

hug

I need a garden. Then I wouldn't have to buy peppers at any price. laugh out loud

Yay! I need to go on a diet. That is why I have been avoiding the diet thread. laugh out loud

I hope you get all your deals!! Smilie Anyone else noticing coupon scrutiny like some folks are reporting? I am thinking I'll do a few small runs and get back into the groove. Not in the mood for confrontations, so if I keep it small, I think I can manage it.

And no... no gift cards are prompting for anything at all in any of the stores ever. They pulled the gift card program for the wider population permanently. To participate in future gift card promotions you must have a Secret Target Shopper Membership that you can only get if you spend $875 dollars pre-coupon in their stores then take it down to .47 post-coupon. Then you will be invited to join with the secret membership invitation that includes (but is not limited to) a jump, triple twirl, bunny-tail wiggle waggle, holler and salute.

I have always read that you should blanch most vegetables before freezing for best quality when they are unfrozen Dontknow And I do. I forgot to blanch a batch or two of carrots last year and they were nasty and had an odd rubbery texture compared to the ones that were blanched. The blanching is supposed to kill off the enzymes or whatever that break down the food while it is just sitting in there. I dunno....

Diet....I am drinking lots of water today per l2b's wonderful info. over in the diet thread and my bathroom and I have become lovely friends in the 2 hrs. I have been up so far laugh out loud

Ank....that stinks on starting over on diapers!!

I don't know what it is, but I kind of resent having to spend overage or just plain money on diapers. laugh out loud

Maybe on the next kid I'll just commit to ECing and skip dipes all the way.
