I thought your car is a Subaru. Gary is right, if the timing belt breaks, it can damage the motor. I'm about to replace the belt in my 2004 Forester, cost for parts $280 (timing belt kit with belt, sprockets, water pump and gaskets). Hubby is going to do it, so we just need to get a book. He just looked up 1994, and it recommends changing it every 60,000 miles, so you're due. Biggest cost will be labor, so I hope you know of a good shop. If the belt breaks, you lose power, so it can put you in a dangerous situation, as well as cause major damage to the engine. (Been there, done that, got the tee shirt.) Good luck!

It can damage the valves (the valves can hit the piston.) One broke in one of my older Subarus and we had to replace the motor.
