June 10, 2011, 3:13 am: System Notice: This thread content has been automatically archived from another thread which reached post limit, and will be preserved for reference and archival purposes. The discussion should continue in the original thread

Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

wave For all of you who have been wondering about the item on which I spent my BUP winnings, I'm here to let you know. wave

First off, among the many wonderful things I've learned on the Funny Farm, is the fact that "rolling your own" is possible. As you may or may not know, the Feds disallowed sending through the mail (including by UPS) cigarettes purchased over the internet. That severely impacted the price of my smokes as I hadn't purchased cigarettes locally for years.

So I went to a Hollywood head shop and bought a hand injector, some filtered paper tubes and some Tops tobacco. I figured out the system, but bottom-line, with the price of the tobacco, it wasn't a heck of a lot cheaper than buying the pre-made ones. So then I went on line and bought some pipe tobacco. That's significantly cheaper. I also went to eBay and purchased light filter paper tubes, which were also significantly cheaper than buying individual boxes locally.

Yes, I'll admit it – I try to avoid paying the 9.5% EEK! state sales tax whenever possible.

Well, I was getting much cheaper than pre-made smokes, but even though the hand style injector worked, it took a looooong time, and although I was trying to make 100's, after tamping down the tobacco, I'd end up with king size.

I looked at a lot of electric machines on the web, but they require ground tobacco or the machine will jam. Only the hand style injectors use the pipe tobacco directly out of the bag. But I was determined to find something that worked for me and figured that as more and more people are going to roll your own, something would come along. Plus, I had my BUP winnings to offset the cost of the machine. nod

I found something that is actually a joy to use. wootwoot I didn't want to tell you about it until I'd had it for more than a week, just to be certain it truly did the job. It's wonderful. It's twice as fast as using the hand injector (although the ad says it's not). The ad says it's for people with arthritis or other problems, but even though I don't have arthritis (at least yet), I spend almost no time smashing the tobacco into the injector and still getting only half a cigarette. This works with pipe tobacco right out of the bag, it makes perfect 100's, filled from the filter to the tip. It's amazing. Thumbsup

So, rather than sit here and gloat about my treasure, I thought I'd share it with all of you. And no, I do not own stock in the company.

PS: the woman in the video takes a lot longer to make a cigarette than it takes me.

bounce That sure IS a streak. I'm so happy for you -- and it's a good selection of different kinds of things, too.

However, as much as I hate to burst your bubble, I seriously doubt that there will be an OWTW contest this year. They've only done them every 2 or 3 years, I think. But there should be a summer contest coming up soon. Those are usually easy with small prizes. I'll happily settle for that. nod
